Omkara read the writings valuing about his cousin in his phone before placing it beside him. He didn't know how to decipher it. Should he be happy that Shivaay was fine, healthy and most importantly, he was innocent in his father's murder case. Or angered with his popularity.
He never understood. Raised together, he never felt insecure or jealous by his charming attitude. Never in his years, he felt miserable being compared to him, as he did two weeks back when Mr and Mrs Bajaj talked of him. Not even when Rudra insulted in the dining room in front of all.
All his existence he was close to him more than others. Never in his wild dream, he guessed he would talk cheap of his dear brother. He surmised, his anger to be justified. Killing his father was never on the screen, although he didn't share a cordial connection with him, he was his father. His heart ached to see his mother and grandmother howling in front of his father's assumed dead body.
Sitting quietly on the swing he remembered Annika's wailings. Her desperate eyes searched him to stand for her husband. Her silence after Shivaay's arrest still haunted him. He did notice her but didn't mind consoling her after their disagreement. She stood for her husband and he stood strong for justice.
.
"Bhabi I heard you are searching for a lawyer." Omkara started looking at her lean figure dipping her legs in the pool.
"Hmm. He didn't do anything. He is innocent." She answered still not looking at him.
He just noticed her wearing baggy clothes, which was very unusual for her. Her love her sarees and traditional clothes never had changed. But now she was different to comprehend.
"I know bhabi he is your husband. Also my brother. But that doesn't change that he killed my father. You are just inferring the Justice process." Omkara sat next to her, likewise dipping his legs till his knees in the pool.
"It's not true. I know his eyes never hide anything from me. His eyes were sad, he was about to speak but was stopped by dadi. I know he innocent." He just gaped at her as she uncomfortably shifted away from him. Her hands automatically secured above her stomach.
Om was amused to see her defend him. Although he was once a reason for her awful phrase. He forcefully married her, didn't accept her as his wife. Yet after creating a mess in her life he was the hero. How was it? He pondered over the thought.
"Bhabi you forgot what he did? You have been forced into marrying him. How could you trust him after all these mishaps?" Om begged her, glancing at her as she rubbed her arms feeling cold with the breeze.
He didn't wait for her response, instead got up and moved out rubbing his foot beneath the rug to get her a shawl. When he got, Annika was surprised by his unknown gesture.
"I believe him. He is not guilty." She tugged the shawl around her body before speaking to him confidently.
"Let him serve his sentence. He will always be our brother, and you will be my always best friend also my bhabhi. Reconsider once." He added gripping her shoulder, though she flinched as a response he didn't care.
"No. You don't trust him, it's fine. I will do everything for him." She unfastened his arm around her shoulder and stood at a good distance.
"You will always be my bhabi, no matter what. But don't trust him easily, we saw with our own eyes. Right? Why can't you notice?" He shook her vigorously requesting her.
"Don't call me bhabi if you don't consider my husband as a brother." She jerked his hands, and angrily spat at him.
"I don't care what you think of him. He is my husband, and I know he isn't at fault. You help or not I will be with him." Omkara was amused with her sudden change in demeanour.
"Are you okay? I have noticed are relatively silent. Are you sick?" He asked her, remembering how she stayed away from the family gatherings.
"I'm fine. Thanks for the concern." She muttered and wiped her tears before walking past him.
With her actions, he wondered a reasonable solution to this. She was a strong woman but with the recent conversation she teared up. That was unlikely to her. This wasn't the same Annika, whom he respected as a sister in law. She was weak. Crying for him
.
That was the last face to face conversation he had with Annika. He had sensed something different in her, yet he could recognize it. He realised that she was true and he failed in understanding. Such to say, he went awry to believe a person whom he knew since the day he was born.
Still, he could not make his mind not until he sees his father in flesh and blood or catch the real culprit behind the murder.
"Om, what are doing at late night?" Gauri stepped to face him in the balcony where he sat.
"Uhmm. Nothing, I just needed fresh air." He was taken off guard by her abrupt entry. Though he answered. "Misha?" He said looking around the room.
"Sleeping. She was awake the evening so she was tired. I guess." She made herself comfortable beside him. And wrapped her arms around his.
"I don't hate him" he dazedly started gawking at the clear dark sky. The stars were embedded in them like seeds on watermelon. The silence soothed his aching heart.
"I know they are going through a rough patch. But still, he is unaffected. However, we are also not wrong at the places. At our shoes, anybody would have done the same." He justified. Her eyes locked with his as he exhaled deeply after explaining his confusion.
"When Mr and Mrs Bajaj spoke of his maturity and all I was infix. I know I shouldn't be having that jealous feeling, yet my insides churn at the reflections. He knew better than me." He chuckled speaking of his insecurities. Her eyes drifted from his and settled on his phone.
"What were doing here with mobile?" She suspiciously inquired, as he was always way from the gadgets.
"Some news on him. I must agree he is great at business." He mumbled looking away from her.
"Why did he take that step? Self-harm? I was wondering from that day. I never thought he would do something like that." Gauri thought out aloud, making him groan to bring the topic again.
"I have no clues. The Shivaay I knew while growing up would have never done that. I have a strong feeling that Annika bhabi has to do something with it."
"Jiji. I know she even kept the truth away from me. She hid about maa. Well, where are Mr and Mrs Bajaj?" She asked trying to mask her expressions. Yet she ceased to function.
"They are staying with Mr Bajaj's younger brother. They desperately want to meet her once." He added.
"Even I need to meet her. There are many truths to be known."
