Chapter 29
Jungkook opened the doors to the all too familiar hospital, making a straight line towards Jin's office only to find out the elder wasn't available right now. With a soft sigh Jungkook walked back in the hallway, knowing Jin was his only option to get something done right now. He couldn't go to the ward without someone who had access to it and hanging around the hallway wasn't an option either. Sure he wanted to see both Jin and Taehyung but he wouldn't wait in an almost empty hallway until one of the two would magically show up. No Jungkook wasn't that desperate but that didn't mean he wasn't disappointed.
With a soft sigh Jungkook turned towards the entrance, he would come back later if he managed to get a hold of Jin. The ravenette started to walk towards the big doors, deciding that he would head towards the city and get himself some lunch since he wasn't planning on going home while his father was still there.
Jungkook opened the door with a small push, the wind softly blowing through his hair and the sun instantly warming his face. Oh how he loved this feeling. The feeling of complete freedom while nobody was going to tell him what to do.
The ravenette opened the door a little further and not even a second later he was already making his way towards the small park across from the hospital. At least......
"JUNGKOOK!"
Within an instant Jungkook had turned himself around, getting somewhat startled from the sudden harsh shout of his name. The ravenette's eyes darted over the entrance of the hospital not seeing anybody he knew and could have shouted his name.
"OVER HERE!"
Jungkook's head turned a little to the left, guessing that's where the sound was coming from. His eyes scanned the windows and doors that lined the whole left side of the building but he still couldn't make out who it was that had been shouting his name. He hadn't recognised the voice either but on the other hand everybody's voice changed when they shouted that hard. Jungkook's eyes scanned the building a second time and that's when he noticed the hand waving outside one of the windows. He quickly scanned the window and he almost instantly recognised the familiar frame of Jackson. The nurse was waving at him from what was probably the nurses office, a smile on his face and a happy look in his eyes. Jungkook gave the nurse a small wave not really knowing what Jackson wanted from the younger, but he still made his way over towards the window. "Morning Jackson."
The nurse opened the window a little further while the smile on his face grew even bigger. "Thank god I was able to catch you on time. Jin texted me that you had been to his office but that he had been busy. We both guessed you would be here to speak with him and see Taehyung so I'm glad I still saw you walking outside. If you'd like it you can come inside the ward until Jin has time." Jackson spoke with the smile still on his face.
The younger was surprised that Jin had considered letting him on the ward without speaking to him first but at the same time it made him somewhat happy. It meant Jin trusted him to speak with Taehyung before the ravenette could speak with Jin himself. Jungkook gave Jackson a short nod and not much later the younger was on his way back towards the main entrance of the hospital. He once again took a left but this time passed Jin's office to go straight towards the ward. Jackson was already standing by the door, holding it wide open so Jungkook could enter easily. "Morning again."
A soft chuckle left the ravenette's mouth while he passed Jackson and walked inside the ward. "Taehyung's in his room, you can go to him if you'd like."
Jungkook gave the elder a soft nod and not much later he was indeed in front of Taehyung's room. Not knowing how to approach the situation at hand Jungkook hesitated to knock on the blonde's door. What if the elder didn't want to see him or what if they both didn't know what to say. Jungkook had seen Taehyung at his lowest and of course did it change about how they saw each other. They weren't strangers or co-patients anymore but neither were they friends or best friends. To be honest Jungkook had no idea where they stood but at the same time he was willing to find out 'cause one thing he knew for sure. He didn't like to see the older sad and he wanted to be there for him.
After another few seconds Jungkook finally decided to knock on the door before him, his heart racing at an impossible high. It didn't take long before a freshly dressed Taehyung opened the door, his eyes immediately growing big. A clear indicator he hadn't expected to see Jungkook at this time. "Uhhh....ohhhh....uhm hi."
Jungkook slowly shifted his weight from one leg to the other before saying a small 'hi' back. A word that was followed by a suffocating silence between the two of them almost instantly.
Taehyung was looking at the ground while Jungkook was looking everywhere except at Taehyung. Neither of them did know what to say or how to start the conversation again after yesterday's event. It was more than clear that something had happened between them and that neither of them knew how to address the whole situation. Sure Jungkook wanted to talk about it but at the same time he just didn't know how. Every sentence that came up inside his head sounded too harsh or too lovely. Nothing seemed right and he also wasn't at a point that he could just walk forward and hug Taehyung. They were in that weird stage between friends and strangers and Jungkook didn't like it one bit.
Suddenly a soft sigh left Taehyung's mouth. "I....I'm sorry about yesterday."
Jungkook's eyes instantly widened and within a second he looked up at Taehyung before telling him that it wasn't a problem and Taehyung had nothing to be sorry about. "We all have our weak moments, I'm glad I could help you with yours. Please don't feel bad about it, you did nothing wrong."
Taehyung shortly looked up at Jungkook, searching the younger's eyes for any indication that he was lying, smiling softly when he couldn't find it. "Thanks."
Jungkook gave Taehyung a nod while smiling back before another silence fell between them. This one is much shorter and less awkward than the last one.
"Do you want to go to the music room with me?" Taehyung proposed hesitant, not knowing if the younger was even planning on staying and spending time with him.
Jungkook's eyes lit up a little at the proposal and with an enthusiastic yes they both were off to the familiar music room on the ward. It didn't take long before both of them had arrived at the room and the both of them had taken a seat against the wall behind the piano. A little bit of space between them but they both felt good about it.
Jungkook's eyes darted across the room not knowing if the things he was going to say next would either break or make their small friendship but on the other hand he knew Taehyung deserved to know that Jungkook knew way more about the elder than the blonde probably thought. Besides he hadn't come to the ward for nothing.
"Tae, can I be honest with you?" Jungkook spoke just above a whisper.
Taehyung's eyes instantly darted towards Jungkook, slight hesitation visible in them before he gave Jungkook an almost invisible nod.
Jungkook looked at his feet before he turned his head to look Taehyung in his eyes. "I might know a little more about you than you'd probably like......I know that you know Namjoon and that you don't have any family. I don't know exactly how but I know you do. I also know that your burn-out story is fake and that the whole bubbly Taehyung thing is probably fake. I think that you feel way worse than you show on the outside but I don't know why you hide it. Yesterday kind of confirmed my thoughts about a few of them and it's okay if you don't want to tell me more about it. I just want you to know that I know them and I want you to feel okay about that fact before we become more than just co-patients."
A soft silence fell between the two boys, something that confirmed Jungkook's speculations even more for him. If they weren't true Taehyung would have told him already but since Taehyung had said absolutely nothing Jungkook made up his own conclusions.
"I....you're right and I don't know why but somehow I'm almost glad you figured it out by yourself." Taehyung's voice sounded softly through the room.
"I know it probably is not even ten percent of your story but I felt like you deserved to know it. What I don't understand is why you're still at the ward 'cause to me you don't seem like a threath to the outside world."
Jungkook looked up at Taehyung, instantly seeing a small flash of panic flash through Taehyung's eyes before the blonde looked back at his shoes. "Promise me you won't leave me if I tell you? Besides Jimin, Hoseok and Taemin you're currently the only non professional person I have in my life......I don't wanna lose you."
Taehyung's voice sounded almost broken by that statement, making the feeling that Jungkook had to take care of him even bigger. He still didn't know why but somehow he wanted to protect Taehyung. He wanted to be there for him when nobody else was. He wanted to make him smile and take him out for walks but most of all he wanted to be his friend. He hated the fact that it had taken a breakdown from the elder to realise that but he definitely wanted to be Taehyung's friend and help him wherever he could. The blonde deserved it and Jungkook was willing to give it to him.
"I won't leave you Taehyung no matter what you're about to tell me but let me tell you my story first so we're even, okay? It wouldn't be fair if I knew anything about you and you know nothing about me." Jungkook spoke while he put an arm around Taehyung's shoulders.
"I will always be here, I promise you that."
