Oddities
🥀Dee🥀
*Back on the bus..*
When I sat down, that line from Heavy stuck itself in my head. "-Get a room"? Ugh. Fuck you, Heavy. I take out my phone and wired earbuds. I had hope I could distract myself from that embarrassing moment, but that still proved to be difficult.
Once we got to school, (name) caught up with me to head to class. Strangely enough, she was being rather quiet.
"Class is about to start You should probably take out your earbuds now, Evangeline." No response or sign of movement. "Evangeline." Still nothing. "Hey...Hey! Evangeline, are you even listening?"
The distant girl finally snapped out of it and turned her attention to me while I had an impatient look. "Oh, sorry, Dee," she apologized. "My head went somewhere else for a bit. Did you say something?"
I heavily sighed, rubbing my eyes with my thumb and index finger. "I was trying to tell you to take out your ear-buds. Class is about to start, in about 5 minutes."
"Ah, right-" (name) dug inside her sweater pocket and takes out the small case as she sat down alongside me.
Putting both buds in her ears, I turn on the mic for the sound check. "Can you hear me?"
She nods her head and when the teacher began to teach, I translated.

Lunch rolled around, and I sat alone and far away from others, like I usually do. I had a good open view of the cafeteria hall. Watching the students walking in and out, getting lunches, and shared conversations with their cliques. I noticed (name) walking in and her face was plastered with irritation. Strange. She's showing a lot of different emotions today, but when she sat down with Heavy, she went back to being a happy little girl. Like, nothing ever happened.
After lunch, it was our final class and I had already gotten to the classroom ahead of the rest. (Name) walks in and sits next to me, taking out her hear buds and notebook. She turns to look at me and flashes a smile. I'm legitimately creeped out by this. One moment she's lost in thought, next is happy. Then she's upset for an unknown reason, and after, is totally fine.
Since the lesson had already started, I began to follow up with the translation. Every now and then, I kept making quick glances back at (name), for some reason. She looked so focused while taking notes, pursing her lips tight while glaring at the lined paper. Admittedly, it was quite a funny face she was pulling. I accidentally let out a low chuckle, and to no surprise, (name) caught it.
Her head snapped in my direction, eyes widened and lips closely parted in shock. I'm guessing she just surprised to hear something like that come out of me, but I quickly noticed something. Her cheeks. They were brightening up to a light hue of pink.
🌸You🌸
Oh. My. God.. He just laughed. I didn't think he could laugh! In that silent moment, I felt my heart beat speed up, felt my face grew slightly warmer, and felt a flutter in my stomach. I didn't anticipate his laugh being so adorable. He was staring back at me and it took me a short minute to realize that I was staring too.
I turn my head away from him and tapped my ear-bud, subtly asking him to continue translating. He got the message and proceed talking into the mic. Even though I tried to gain back my focus, Dee's laugh just echoed through my head for whole period.

School was over and I start packing my things. Dee and I met with Heavy out of the classroom and headed towards the front, where the busses were waiting. While finding our seats, I figured I'd sit next to Heavy, like always, but I felt a shove and fell into an open seat. I heard a grunt as I plopped down and realized that I fell ontop of Dee!
"Ah! I'm so sorry!" I lifted myself off him.
"Grr...its fine," Dee said coldly. "Just be more careful, next time."
"B-but, that wasn't my fault," I stood up. "Someone pushed me--" I looked around the bus seats, trying to find the culprit. I see Heavy giving me a wink and two thumbs up. I knew it was him, immediately.
The bus starts to move, which made me lose my balance and sit down. I guess I'm staying seated. I hope Dee doesn't mind. I took out my phone and separate earbuds and let my playlist shuffle my songs (can be whatever you want). This was a good distraction, for a while. I'd hate to be in a situation where Dee and I are just sitting in awkward silence.
I was stuck in my own world. Taping my heals to the constant rhythm and mumbling the lyrics. So, when I felt a tap on my shoulder, you could say I was a bit startled. A sharp gasp escaped my lips, but I saw that it just Dee, so I paused my song and took out a bud to listen.
"Yeah, Dee? What is it?"
"Is there any late work you're missing?" He asked me, "grades are due, next Tuesday."
I scratched my cheekbone in thought, "no, not really. But I am having trouble understanding the new math unit we learned today."
Dee sighs, pinching the bridge of his nose. "Is it the word problems, or the equation work?"
"Uhh, both?"
Dee was quiet for moment until he took a deep breath and let it out. "I can show you how to do it. Are you free today and tomorrow?"
"Yeah, I think so. Let me call my mom, to be sure."
*rrriiinngg--*
"Hey, momma?"
*yes, baby?*
"Uhm, a ("friend") is asking if I'm free both today and tomorrow. Do we, or I, have anything planned?"
*No, you're good. But I would like to speak to this friend of yours, if that's okay.*
I nervously looked to Dee, who was just staring with a brow raised. "She wants to talk to you." He rolled his eyes, putting his hand out and I give him the phone.
"Hello, ma'am. This is Dee."
.
.
"I'm doing fine. How are you?"
.
.
"I'll be helping her with homework, grades are due next week."
.
.
"...no, problem."
Dee hands me back my phone and I'm back to talking with mom again. She better not have made things weird.
"HeEeyYy~"
"Hello~ Well, I'm glad to know you're in good hands. But I do want you home before 9:00."
"Okay, mom--"
"Either that young man walks you back or you send me your location to pick you up. Okay?"
"Yeah, yeah! I got it, jeez."
"Good. I love you, sweetie. Have fun."
"I love you too, momma. Bye--"
I hung up the call and slouched in my seat while letting a sigh slip out. I sat back straight and gave Dee a smile and a thumbs up. Soon enough, the bus brakes at our stop and the metal brothers and I stepped off.
"So~" I swayed on my heals, "where to now?"
"I thought it was obvious," he walks down the street with Heavy following him, "we're going to our house."
