Snow Day (Tarlotte)
Charlotte Wessels had no real reason to get out of bed early that day. Therefore, she decided it wouldn't matter if she slept late. However, both the overnight weather and her girlfriend had other plans.
That's why Charlotte woke up to, "CHARLOTTE! Have you looked outside yet?"
Charlotte jumped up in bed, wondering if something was wrong. She climbed out of bed and went to the window. It had snowed overnight, but that was all she could see that was different.
"Tarja, are you okay?" she called. "I don't see anything outside besides snow."
"That's what I meant, silly! It's the first snowfall of the winter! It's great, isn't it?"
Charlotte wasn't sure how to respond. Sure, the first snowfall of the season was cool, but she hadn't thought it was something Tarja would get that excited about.
She looked at the clock on the bedside table. It was almost eight. She still felt a little groggy, but now that she was up there didn't seem like much point in going back to bed. She went downstairs in her pajamas to find Tarja already dressed and cooking breakfast while humming happily to herself.
"So, what's up with you?" Charlotte asked. "I didn't know you liked snow that much."
"Oh, I just like this time of the year," Tarja said lightheartedly. "Seeing the snow outside just really makes it feel like winter, doesn't it?"
Charlotte shrugged. "Yeah, I guess so. I never really thought about it like that before. Well, I guess I did when I was a kid."
"I think pretty much every kid loves playing out in the snow," Tarja pointed out. She paused, and then she turned around. "Hey. Why don't we do that?"
"Do what?"
"Charlotte, we have the whole day to ourselves and there's fresh snow outside. Let's go out and have some fun."
Charlotte stared at her a few seconds, registering what exactly she meant.
"Tarja, I'm not exactly a kid anymore," she pointed out. "And...are you sure that's how you want to spend the day?"
"Well, I-it did sound fun in my head," Tarja said, her smile faltering a little. "But you never know, right? I mean, we don't have to build a snowman or have a huge snowball fight. Let's at least go out for a little while."
"All right." Charlotte nodded. "I don't think I'm one hundred percent awake yet, so I can't think of a way to argue. And I think I can smell your eggs burning."
~~~~~~
Charlotte hadn't thought much of the idea when she first heard it, but she would think more of it later.
She and Tarja did have a huge snowball fight, after all. And they built a snowman, and also made a few snow angels along the way.
They eventually had to get back in the house since they were cold and soaked. They changed into dry clothes and sat down together in front of the fireplace.
"You see?" said Tarja. "I told you a snow day would be fun."
"Yeah, you were right," Charlotte replied. "I don't why I would ever think that was a bad idea."
