Chapter 8 - A New Friend
[Sabre's POV]
I wake up, seeing a robot pig in front of my face.
"HOLY- JEEZ!" I yell, jolting up. I'm definitely awake now...
"What happened?" Orange asks, I hear him downstairs.
"Gerald scared me, I'm fine." I answer, sliding off the bed.
"Gerald, leave him alone!" Orange scolds the pig from downstairs, and Gerald heads down before I do.
When I get to the living room, Orange is holding Gerald and lecturing him about being careful with me. I laugh at my friend's antics, and Orange looks back at me. He sets the pig down as I climb onto the couch.
"Sorry he scared you." Orange says, joining me on the couch.
"It's fine. He didn't actually do anything, he was just in my face when I woke up." I say. Gerald glares at me from his spot of the floor next to us. "What? You did that, not me." I say to him.
"He's just grumpy 'cause he got in trouble." Orange says, laughing.
"Can I have food?" I ask. Orange looks at me, surprised.
"You still want food after yesterday? Or really, earlier this morning, cuz uh... that ended up happening at 2 AM." Orange says.
"Yeah." I say. "Besides, you fricken planned that to happen, technically that was your doing."
"Alright, alright." Orange says, getting up. "I'm only making you a little bit though, because I really think you need to start slowing down on how much you eat, you tiny vacuum."
"Aw, what? Why?" I ask, and Orange gives me a look of 'are you serious'... but doesn't really look all that serious himself.
"Do I really need to explain it?" Orange says, smiling.
"C'mon, I don't eat that much." I giggle.
"Oh really?" Orange says, clearly holding back laughter. "Does eight potatoes, a bowl of soup, five smoked fish, and two apples sound familiar to you?"
"There's no evidence, you have no proof!" I laugh.
"Because you ate all of it, ya silly!" Orange says, now also laughing.
Orange takes out two potatoes and puts them into the furnace, then walks back over to me.
"Okay, okay... I know you need to slow down a little because I've been reading more about humans since you got here." Orange says. "You're pretty close to being normal and healthy again, like you're supposed to, and I don't want you throwing that off by being a tiny vacuum when you don't need to."
"C'mon, I'll be fine." I say.
"Don't come crying to me when one of these days you can't fit in that hoodie anymore." Orange laughs.
"Hey, that won't happen!" I say, and Orange laughs harder. "This hoodie is oversized as heck, there's no way."
"Keep telling yourself that." Orange says.
Eventually, the potatoes finish, and Orange plays with Gerald as I eat. When I finish, I jump down from the couch and run over to them both of them.
"Okay, what are we doing today?" I ask my robot friend.
"I was thinking we'd check on the village, after the attack and all." Orange says.
"Oh, cool!" I say. "I was wondering how everyone was holding up after that. Speaking of that... I think I saw something just before the lightning hit everything."
"You did?" Orange asks.
Suddenly, Gerald runs over to me and headbutts me in the stomach.
"Oof- Hey, you little jerk!" I say, clutching my torso. That hurt.
"Gerald, that's not nice!" Orange says, picking up the robot pig. "What is with you, today?"
I swear, Gerald just did something like sticking his tongue out at Orange. He then squirms out of Orange's grip and trots away.
"Sorry about that, Sabre." Orange says. "I dunno what his problem is."
"Heh, maybe he's jealous that he's not the only one that has your attention." I giggle.
"Y'know, that'd actually make sense..." Orange mumbles, then turns back to me. "Anyway, what'd you see yesterday? Before the lightning?"
"I saw something yellow go by me really fast. I don't really know what it was, but there was something." I say.
"Something yellow...?" Orange says, sounding confused. "Hm... Oh well, we can figure it out later. Are you ready to head to the village?"
"Alright!" I say, excitedly running to the door.
"Hey, wait up!" Orange calls out after me.
Orange quickly catches up to me before I get to the portals, and he picks me up as he walks over to the orange portal.
"Hey, I can walk!" I say, laughing.
"Yeah, but you don't know how to navigate through portal travel, so this is the way to go." Orange says. "I'll put you back down as soon as we get there, okay?"
"Okayyy." I say, hanging onto my metal friend.
"Brace yourself, we're headin' out!" Orange says, starting to run to the multicolor swirl pattern in the frame.
I do so, and I feel like I'm floating again as I close my eyes, entering the portal and being taken to the Orange Village.

Okay, I'm starting to get used to that.
I open my eyes as we land back in that little clearing, and Orange sets me down. I excitedly run through the clearing from the path, and Orange laughs and walks next to me. When I get to the village entrance, I see a lot of reconstruction going on. Scaffolding is everywhere, along with people fixing roofs and walls of the various houses. It seems like the pathway and ground was already fixed, the debris probably being used for something else.
As we walk through the village, a lot of Orange Steves greet us. I happily greet them back, Orange doing the same. We eventually reach a house we recognize; Shy's house. Happy, Funny, and Shy (of course) are hanging out on the half-repaired roof.
"Hey guys, what's up?" Funny calls down.
"Hi Funny! Hey Happy! Hello, Shy!" I say, excitedly waving to the three of them.
"Heya guys!" Orange says.
"C'mon up, it's alright! We're taking a break from repairs right now." Happy says.
I go to climb up the scaffolding, but I look behind me and notice Orange looks nervous.
"You good, Orange?" I ask.
"Oh, uh, yeah... It's just..." Orange says.
"He's scared of heights." Happy says, giggling.
"Shush!" Orange glares at Happy. The three above us giggle.
"Wait, you're scared of heights?" I ask. "Is that why you said 'heights are dangerous' when I climbed that tree-"
"I'm coming, I'm coming." Orange says, quickly running over to the scaffolding.
I'm already up by the time Orange starts climbing. Shy picks me up once I get there.
"H-Hey Sabre." Shy says, smiling. "Sorry I didn't answer earlier, I-I didn't want to yell..."
"That's okay! I understand." I smile back at Shy.
"How did you climb so fast?" Funny asks me.
"Oh, I had to climb wayyy taller things just to stay safe in my old world." I reply. "You should've seen how far I've been able to get; Looking down on the world from the top of a radio broadcast tower is awesome."
"You're looking a lot better since last time we saw you!" Happy says, ruffling my hair. "Heheh, you look like a lil squish."
"A what?" I say, confused.
"T-That's what he c-calls biological things h-he thinks are adorable, l-like cats." Shy says.
"Yeah, a lil squish!" Happy says, smiling.
Orange then gets up to the rest of us. He quickly climbs onto the roof, far from the scaffolding.
"I looked down." Orange says, sounding a little scared.
"Ohhh, that's what took you so long." Funny says.
We talk for a while, catching up since the last time we saw each other... man, hard to believe that was a little over a week ago. Just a little before that, I was still fighting to survive in a post-apocalypse while on the edge of death. Now, I almost don't have to worry about a thing... except Orange tricking me into going to bed. I still gotta get back at him for that.
Suddenly, I notice something that looks like a glass dome a little bit away from the village. I point it out to my friends.
"Hey, what's that over there?" I ask.
They look over and see the dome, and seem a little puzzled by it.
"Huh, I dunno what that is..." Happy says.
"I-It wasn't there yesterday..." Shy mumbles.
"Hm... Sabre, maybe we should go check that out." Orange says.
"Yeah, that's a good idea." I say, walking over to the scaffolding. "We'll be right back."
"Okay, be safe!" Funny says.
Even though it takes a little bit for Orange to get down, we eventually start walking toward the glass dome we saw. When we get there, it doesn't really seem like that much.
"What on earth is going on?" Orange says.
"I dunno." I shrug.
I then notice movement inside the dome, so I go to check what it is. I'm shocked by what I see.
"Orange Steve..." I say. "You might want to see this."
"What is i- OH." Orange says, walking over to the dome and seeing what's in there.
Inside the dome is the two infected Orange Steves from yesterday, walking around aimlessly on iron floors inside. They don't seem like they're really there, but they haven't started infecting the floor near them, so... it's not too late.
"What the heck...?" Orange mumbles.
Suddenly, a lot of lightning strikes around us. I panic, and grab onto Orange's leg.
"What's happening?!" I yell... I'm scared.
"I-I don't know!" Orange says.
I see something zooming in front of us, but it's too fast for me to tell what it is. Orange backs up into a bunch of trees, and now we're cornered. I close my eyes, fearful of what's about to happen.
Eventually, the lightning dies down, and I hear someone walk in front of us. Then, an unfamiliar voice.
"Hello? I'm sorry, I didn't mean to scare y- Woah..."
What? Who is that? I hear their voice again.
"Is... is that a-"
"Touch him and I will turn you to scrap metal." Orange says, as I feel his arm protectively wrap around me.
"Hey, hey! It's okay. I wasn't gonna hurt him. I just... is that really a human?" The unknown person asks.
"Yeah." Orange says. "Who are you, and why do you want to know?"
I open my eyes, and see another robot standing in front of us. He looks kind of like Orange Steve, except he's completely yellow. I look at him, wondering who he is as well.
"Oh, I'm Yellow Steve!" The robot says, waving. "Nice to meet ya!"
Wait- This is what I saw yesterday at the village!
