Chapter 2 - Helping the Newcomer
Eyo, same trigger warnings as last time, heads up.
—————————————————————————————————————
[Red's POV]
"What in the world...?" I mumble, trying to figure out what the strange figure is at my feet. Then, I see its face, and I instantly panic.
Oh.
Oh dear Origin.
That's a human.
...
THERE'S A HUMAN IN MY HOUSE AND IT JUST FELL OUT OF THE PORTAL-
Okay, calm down, Red. Pull yourself together, something's clearly wrong with the poor thing. Last I checked, humans aren't crimson-colored.
The portal breaks, but I ignore it for now as I quickly rush to the small human's side, and gently lift its head off the ground as I scan the damage it seems to have. Besides the stuff (that's apparently called 'blood', as shown in my database) covering him, he seems to have many other things wrong with him other than injury that I don't understand my database's names of.
'Exhaustion'... 'Dehydration'... 'Starvation'... What is any of this?! And why are they all described as 'extreme'?! How can I fix this?!
Wait... do I even know anything to fix this? Us Steves had never had contact with humans, other than the first, so- Oh crud.
I have no idea how to care for a human. An injured and possibly ill one, which is even worse.
Okay, think. Who do you know that can help with this that won't cause any panic? Oh- Orange Steve! Even if he can't do anything, we can take this human to his village to get help from the Orange Leader. Don't the Leaders learn more things than others about humans as a rite of passage, kind of?
I roll the human over so he's laying on his back, then I carefully nudge him a little, seeing if he's responsive.
"Hello? Are you still there?" I ask the small human.
I get a quiet groan in response, his eyes still closed. Good, he's alive, but seems to be barely conscious. If I'm going to get him help, he needs it now.
I gently pick up the human, and rush out of my house to get to Orange Steve's. As I'm running, I get a good look at the human that appeared through the portal. Compared to how humans are normally supposed to be, he's extremely thin, pale, and smaller than he's most likely supposed to. I'm pretty sure I can see his bones through his hoodie...
I see I'm approaching Orange's house, and attempt to collect myself as I reach his door. It's only a few seconds after knocking that Orange appears.
"Oh, hey Re- aaaaAAAAAAAA!" Orange starts to greet me, then also panics at the sight of the tattered human. "IS- IS THAT-?!" He points at the tiny figure I'm carrying in my arms.
"Hi- Yes- Human appeared." I say, failing at keeping my composure. "He- uh- injured- and something else?! I don't know!"
"Well, I dunno either dude!" Orange says, shrugging.
"Uh- What about the-" I start to ask, but Orange realizes what I'm saying and finishes my sentence.
"Leader! Yes! Come on!" Orange says, closing his door as he rushes outside.
Orange drags me over to a spot a little bit away from his house, and lightning surrounds us as he teleports us to the Orange Village.

We start booking it to the Leader's house as soon as our feet hit the ground. Rushing through the village path, we ignore the questions we're being bombarded with from the other Orange Steves and approach the Leader's door. Orange hurriedly knocks, and the Leader opens the door to see us two. He immediately sees the human I'm carrying and pulls us inside.
"Holy- Where did you even find a human, Red?!" The Orange Leader says, taking the small being from me and setting him on the nearby couch.
"You're not gonna believe this, but he came through the portal." I answer.
"The portal? Then I guess that legend really was true..." The Orange Leader mumbles. "No time to think about that, we need to help this poor thing."
"Red, did you scan him?" Orange Steve asks me. "Other than the injuries, there's clearly something else wrong with him."
"Yes, I did, but I don't understand the terms." I say. "It said something about starvation, dehydration, and exhaustion? What are those?"
"Oh scrap, that's bad." The Orange Leader says. "The first two means we need to get him food and water, the last one just means he's out of energy, and he's already resting so we got that covered. We need to go out and get biological materials, though. Any materials we use that are mechanized will not do him any good."
"Maybe we should get the village to help then?" I say. "Biological materials are a little far off, and I don't think we have a lot of time, based off his condition."
"Good idea, come on you two." The Orange Leader says, walking towards the door. He turns to his dog for a second, which had walked in the room when the Leader had taken the human. "Cleo, watch him." The Leader commands, and the dog barks and walks over to the human, who is sleeping on the couch.
We get outside, and the Leader calls everyone together. As they approach, the Leader starts explaining the situation before anyone could ask any questions.
"Okay everyone, there's an actual human here. However, he needs help, and fast." The Leader begins. "We need to get biological materials, the ones we use won't do a thing. Can you guys help out with that?"
"Yes, sir!" A lot of the Orange Steves answer.
"Alright, we need to get some food, clean water, and try to locate remains of a hospital to get bandages and other medical supplies. Me, Orange Steve, and Red Steve will stay here to make sure nothing happens to the human. Got it?" The people of the village nod. "Good, then go!"
All of the Village immediately runs off in different directions, and the three of us go back inside to watch over the small human. We can't have any Darkness or any other horror suddenly showing up and killing the poor thing. For all we know, this could be the last human alive.
As the Orange Leader cleans up the human's wounds using a cloth, we can only hope we can help him quick enough.
—————————————————————————————————————
The people of the village came back with supplies a while ago, and I'm using the bandages they brought to wrap up the human's wounds, as I already have previous knowledge from a recording I found in an abandoned clinic a while back.
The Orange Leader and Orange Steve are watching me do so, in case I'm not there if this happens again and the human needs immediate help. We made sure he was stable while the people were getting supplies, and they've been eagerly watching through the windows since they got back.
I finish treating the gashes the human has, and step back to turn to the Leader.
"I got it. You think he'll be alright?" I ask.
"I'm pretty sure." The Leader answers. "We treated his wounds in time, so now we just need to wait for him to wake up. Thanks for the help, by the way."
"Nah, thank you." I say. "If you didn't help me, I would've had no clue how to take care of this."
Orange Steve, who had just been petting Cleo, suddenly turns to the human excitedly and gets our attention.
"Guys, guys!" He says. "The human's moving!"

[Sabre's POV]
I slowly open my eyes to see that I'm in a house, and I'm covered in bandages... weird. Last thing I remember is I was in the ground after going through a weird portal to escape a monster. Who could've helped me?
I turn my head to my right and see three- no, four huge robots. Three of them look kind of like humans, while the fourth looks exactly like a dog. Suddenly, the robot dog barks, and I flinch out of surprise.
"Cleo, no!" One of the robots says, an orange one that looks like a figure of authority. "Don't bark, you'll scare him!"
"...Hi?" I say, confused to what's going on.
The orange robot turns back to me, and waves. A red robot appears next to me, helping me sit up.
"Hi there, sorry about that." The red robot says. "There hasn't really been a human around here before."
"Uh, okay..." I say.
"Hiya!" Another orange robot says, waving at me. This one looks more casual than the other one, and he has a diamond-shaped thing on his face, next to his eye.
I wave back at the robot, then notice the first orange robot walking up to me and kneeling down next to the couch I'm sitting on. Dang, speaking of which, I'm tiny compared to everything here. The couch is the same size as a big bed!
"I'm the Orange Leader, you're currently in my village." The orange robot says, then gestures to the other two in the room. "That's Red Steve next to you, and the one sitting over there with my dog is Orange Steve. What's your name?"
"I'm Sabre, nice to meet you." I answer. These guys seem nice, way nicer than everyone else I knew back home.
"Oh right, the other stuff!" The other orange robot, who I now know is Orange Steve, says as he quickly gets up and walks out of the room.
He comes back a few seconds later holding a few large apples and some bottles of water. He hands two of the apples and a water bottle to me. I gladly take them and immediately drink most of the water.
"Thank you." I say after putting down the bottle. I then pick up one of the apples and start eating it.
"So... how exactly did you get here, Sabre?" The Orange Leader asks me.
"I was running away from a monster that was about to kill me, and I saw a portal. It was my only escape, so I went through it, and now I'm here." I say.
"A monster?" Red Steve says, confused.
"Yeah, where I'm from, it's post-apocalyptic. The monsters caused that a long time ago, before I was even alive." I answer. "They killed off a lot of humans, and there weren't many of us left. A bunch of them attacked the base where I was living, and I was running from them for a whole day. As you can guess, uh... they got me a little bit."
"Why didn't other humans help you out?" Orange Steve asks. "You had friends, right?"
"Nope, none at all." I say, putting down the core of the apple I was eating and picking up the other one. "That's kind of how I lived. The only interactions I had with other humans were when they were beating me up in groups to steal my supplies that I found. I uh... I actually wasn't able to eat for a few days before you guys gave me these. Other people just kept taking whatever I found... humans are jerks."
"Oh, you poor thing..." Red mumbles.
We stay silent for a moment, when Orange turns to the Leader.
"Can we keep him?!" He exclaims.
"Orange!" Both Red and the Orange Leader say.
"This isn't like finding a random animal, this is a human." The Leader says. "You can't just-"
"But he just said he didn't have anyone!" Orange says. "Besides, even if he could, I'm pretty sure he wouldn't want to go back based off what he just told us!"
"Um, yeah, I... actually don't want to go back there." I say, and the three robots look at me. "If it's okay, could I please... stay with you guys?"
The Leader and Red look at each other, Orange excitedly keeping his gaze on me. Then, the Leader sighs, and stands up.
"Well... I guess we're keeping Sabre then." He says.
"Yay!" Orange exclaims, and happily jumps up and walks over to me.
Orange carefully picks me up and gently gives me a hug, being careful not to crush me. I gladly hug back, and realize...
For the first time ever, I have friends!
