Chapter 1: Part 6
I walked into my new home. Looking around, I couldn't see Merlin or Gaius. Starting to freak out a bit, I looked around. No Merlin or Gaius in the kitchen. Or making medicine...or anywhere. Where the hell...?
"Oh there you are Maddy!"
Freaking out by the sudden noise, I let out a short scream. My heart pounded in my chest, as I turned to see Gaius coming in the door. My eyes flashed gold and I could hear a couple of pots get smashed.
"Sheesh. It's only me. Have you seen Merlin?" Gaius asked walking in the door.
Shaking my head 'no' I frowned at him. Glaring, I decided to say nothing, because all that would come out of my mouth would be a string of curses. Biting the inside of my cheek, I took in what Gaius just said. If Merlin isn't here...then where is he? Hm...I'm curious. Maybe I should go look for him...
"I was just going to go look for him, care to join?" Gaius asked me.
"Sure."
"She speaks!" Gaius said in fake surprise.
Glaring at Gaius, I followed him out the door.
The sun was starting to set in the horizon. The splashes of pinks and oranges' intertwined with the gold sky made a beautiful sight. Sighing, I looked away from the sky and walked around the corner with Gaius. A crowd was starting to form around and I could see the soon-to-be-prince fighting with someone. Not surprised. Honestly, I think the more I talk to that prat, the more deaf he gets. Going on my tippy-toes, I tried to see the person he was fighting. You will not believe what I saw. It was Merlin he was fighting with. And the most important part was that the prince himself, was losing!!! Arthur then took a swing at Merlin, and Merlin, being his clumsy self, tripped and fell over his two feet. Arthur laughed and swang again. The mace in his hand was about to hit Merlin, until it got tangled in the ropes. Magic. Haha! Atta boy, Merlin!!! I thought excitingly as a box moved and made Arthur tripped. This went on for a little while until Merlin stood up squaringly to Arthur.
"Do you give up? Huh? Do you give up?" Merlin exclaimed.
Arthur then grabbed a broom and hit Merlin in the back with it. Merlin then fell to the group with a thud and then groaned in pain. Fearing that Merlin might be thrown in the dungeons again, I bit my lip in anticipation. The knights began to pick him up, but Arthur quickly dismissed him.
"Wait. Let him go. He may be an idiot, but he's a brave one. There's something about you Merlin, I just can't put my finger on it."
The crowd started to disappear after Arthur said that. The vibe in the air was tense, since I could feel Gaius' disappointment. I wanted to congratulate Merlin on his job well done, but I didn't think it would be appropriate. Gaius sighed, then went to Merlin and helped him up. Merlin let out a groan of pain, and Gaius hurried a head of us. Merlin stumbled, and went over to him. Putting a arm around Merlin, I put my weight against him to keep balance.
"If your going to say anything about this.." Merlin said to me with a slight glare.
"What me? No!" I said with a bit of sarcasm, "but I was going to say-"
"Don't."
"Rude!"
"Don't care." He mumbled under his breath.
I huffed in annoyance and let go of Merlin. Merlin looked at me shocked and started to move his arms in a rapid motion. Flapping his arms like a bird, he tried to maintain his balance. But since he was leaning so heavily on me, Merlin lost his balance and fell to the ground in an ungraceful fashion.
"Awww. I think you look a lot better with dirt on your face." I said to him smirking.
Merlin grumbled, then leaned on the nearest structure to keep him from falling again. Losing the ground from underneath him, he fell again. I started to giggle, covering my mouth with my hand, until when Merlin fell the second time, I couldn't control myself. The laughes escaped their mouth prision and tears started to leak from my eyes.
"H-Hey Merlin!"
"What?" He grumbled again.
"E-Ever thinking about becoming a Jester? Y-You'd be a great one."
Tears kept coming, I couldn't help it. I removed my hand, and put my arms around my stomach. Crying and laughing, a deathly combination. Especially if your roommate is in terrible pain. But I couldn't stop, and I didn't want to.
"Okay, okay. That's enough. Help me up now please." Merlin said with a slight smile on his face.
"Fine."
I helped up Merlin, and wiped the tears off my face. Merlin started to wobble, and I put my arm around him again. He sighed in relief as he realized that I was going to help him get to our new home.
"Why'd you sigh like that?" I asked.
"I thought you weren't going to help me get home." Merlin replied.
"Yeah Merlin, I'm just going to leave you here for the rest of the night. Good luck!" I replied sarcastically.
"Please don't." Merlin begged me.
"Don't worry Merlin, I'm just joking. Besides, anyone who kicks Arthur's butt in sword fighting is a friend of mine."
"We're friends?"
"No Merlin, we're just roomates." I said snarkily.
"Aww. Okay." Merlin said sadly.
"You're really gullible you know that?" I said smirking at him.
"Wait, so we're friends?! Really?!"
"Yeah Merlin, were friends." I said sighing, "now let's get a move on!"
****
We entered our new home, and Gaius immediately started to talk (more like yell) at Merlin.
"How could you be so foolish?!" Gaius yelled.
Merlin let go of me and started to walk normally. He looked over at Gaius and sighed.
"He needed to be taught a lesson." Merlin replied to Gaius' rant.
"Magic must be studied, mastered, and used for good! Not for idiotic pranks!"
"What's there to master? I could move things before I could even talk!"
"Then by now you should know how to control yourself!"
"I don't want to! If I can't use magic, what have I got?! I'm just a nobody, and I always will be. If I can't use magic, then I might as well die." Merlin replied.
Wow, that got heated quickly. I thought as I saw Merlin turn then run up the stairs. Gaius looked at me with a stare that, I believe, would have even scared a dragon off.
"What?" I said as I looked at Gaius.
"Your not off the hook either, young lady."
"Why not? What did I do?" I replied to his quick actioned comment.
"I know exactly what you did."
"Then please enlighten me." I said snarkily to him.
"Prince Arthur went to me this afternoon, to talk about your behavior."
"Oh 'behavior'." I made quotation marks with my hands, "If Arthur has a problem with me, he should talk to me, not you. Next time he does, just send him my way."
"No! Your behavior towards him is unacceptible!"
"Yeah, and you yelling at me is?!" I replied hotly, "What is with men to think that women cannot be smarter? What is wrong with us, to tell someone that they need to budge off, and leave people like me alone?! I wanted peace with him, but he made that smart mistake. So Gaius, please do tell me, what do you want me to do to fix this?!"
Gaius looked at me in shock. Never in my life, had a response like that come out of my mouth. Ha. Serves him right. I thought as my eyes narrowed. I turned sharply on my heel, and following Merlin's steps up the stairs.
