Long Live The King, Long Live The Queen

"Where is Gwen?" Arthur asked as he scanned the hall for his queen and wife. It was in itself strange that she hadn't been there to accompany inside, but it was even stranger that she was nowhere to be found. She was always on time.

"I don't know, Sire," Merlin answered as he stood behind Arthur's chair, watching the guests conversate and laugh together. "Last I saw her was outside your chambers, but I think she left again to look for you elsewhere. I searched for her in her chambers and then around the aisles."

Arthur frowned. "I don't like this, Merlin, something might be wrong," he said and frowning deeply. "I need you to go and look for her again. Tell me what you find. I have to--"

Arthur didn't get to say anymore as he was cut off by the doors as they were yanked open and a flustered and breathless Gwaine entered the hall. "Sire!" he shouted. "I don't know how she did it! The deepest dungeon has been opened! Morgana has fled!"

Arthur's eyes widened as he jumped out of his chair and a bunch of knights instantly moved forward, ready to protect the king's life if necessary.

"Leon!" Arthur exclaimed. "Gather all the guards, search the palace, I want to know how she did this. Gwaine, Percival, I need you to gather--"

Again, Arthur was cut off by the doors being slammed open. This time it happened with so much force that the old wooden doors were ripped off their hinges and fell to the ground with an enormous BANG. The intruder was not one, but many men, dressed as workers, servants and even guards. People who should all be working for Camelot. And in front of them stood...

"Hello, brother. How nice to see you." Morgana smiled. Her voice was as colder than ever, even though it was hoarse too. Her hair was not as smooth as it used to be, it had grown long enough to reach her knees, it was a big black mess. Also, her face was pale and bore traces of her long imprisonment; she had dark shadows underneath her eyes which were red and scary to look upon. Despite all of this, Morgana did not seem weak. She had gained new power and was more than ready to use it.

"Morgana," Arthur said in a way that made it clear he still felt hurt over his sister's betrayal and shocked by her sudden appearance.

Her smile turned evil then. "Did you miss me? At least I think I missed my invitation to this, hmm, grand feast... a feast held by my own brother. Surely that's just a sad mistake?"

Arthur clenched his fists as Morgana made her way to face him, painfully slow, painfully torturing, to stand no more than a few feet away. She tilted her face slightly to the side as she began circling the king and his knights. "Luckily, I found myself some very helpful friends..."

"What did you do to them?" Arthur demanded.

Morgana just looked at him with a bored expression. "Every man that you see wearing the sacred crest of Camelot is not a friend of yours, Arthur. Surely you must have learned that lesson by now."

Arthur glared at her. "Don't you dare..."

But Morgana merely laughed. "Your power is great, little king, but not nearly great enough. I think I have just the thing to make you see this..."

"What have you done this time, Morgana?" Arthur spat.

Morgana ignored Arthur's continuing glare and went on. "I only think it would be fair for you to listen to me, dear brother, since I had a most interesting talk with your queen," Morgana said, faking innocence.

Arthur stiffened. He tightened his grip on his sword, but didn't get much further than that as Merlin interfered.

"Stop, Arthur," he said and put a hand on the king's shoulder. "Leave, Morgana, you have no business here."

Morgana's smile only widened. "Brave words, Emrys, but are you prepared to take any serious action?"

"I'll take you back in the dungeon where you belong," Merlin answered. "It would only be my pleasure."

"I would do no such thing standing in your place," Morgana warned, now rejoining her 'friends'. "Especially if you value the life of your little queen."

Then, two men brought forth the lifeless body of Queen Guinevere. The knights had to grab the king and hold him in place as he saw her there, in the arms of the enemy.

"I do not like it when someone tries to trick me," Morgana seethed. "And I do not like it when someone locks me up in a dark prison to rot. I once told you, brother, that I was not the only one who wished to put an end to your life and now you see I was only right." She smiled again, in a way that made cold shivers run down one's spine.

"Let the queen go," Merlin warned.

Morgana glared daggers at him. "If you truly know your place you will stand by your king and KEEP QUIET!!"

"No! he will speak exactly when he is ordered to and it is not you who holds that power, Morgana, it is me!" Arthur sneered.

For the first time, Morgana seemed to be properly insulted. "I take it you sadly do not understand the power of which you possess – or shall I say possessed... Just a few moments ago you had the power to decide the fate of your beloved queen. Now, you cannot consider yourself that lucky." With those words, Morgana drew forth a deadly poison from her cloak and poured it down Gwen's throat rather roughly and before anyone could stop her.

Arthur paled and fought his way towards Morgana, his face twisted in an expression of blinding fury.  "YOU TRAITOR!! LET HER GO!!"

Morgana only laughed as Merlin did his best to try and stop Arthur, but before he could reach the king, Morgana's men had moved around the hall and grabbed different victims throughout the hall. Then, by only a shake of her hand and a golden flash in her eyes, Morgana sent Arthur flying backwards and landing on the floor with a nerve-racking crack. The king did not pass out. However, he did flash a very pain-filled look on his face.

"One more step, Emrys..." Morgana threatened. "One more step and the lives of not only your queen, but also of your friends and King will be lost."

"DON'T MOVE!" Merlin yelled back, even though he didn't move out of fear for what Morgana might do.

"Watch me," she told him and yanked the sword out of Arthur's now weak hands.

"Goodbye brother."

Morgana raised the sword.

"May you never see the light again."

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!" Merlin screamed.

But it was too late; Morgana had thrust the sword deep into Arthur's stomach. The blood was coloring the fabric of his robe and armor much too fast. The king panted for air as his vision began to darken. He could only just make out the figures of fighting men as he felt himself being lifted up from the floor by strong arms. Someone carried him away. Arthur's eyes got so heavy that they simply closed. All he felt was the pulsing pain in the left side of his stomach. The king saw no reason to fight to stay awake. No reason to see at all anymore...

Everything was broken.
