1. Acceptance Letter
Dear Hermione Granger,
You have been accepted at Hogwarts College for Talented Wizards and Witches. Hogwarts College has been founded for wizards and witches that feel they would benefit from further education. We welcome you to our college Miss Granger and hope that you enjoy your time here.
Rebecca Acturus, Headmistress.
Hermione squealed with excitement as she read the letter. She had applied for the college months before but had failed despite her efforts to get her friends to join her: Ron and Harry had accepted an Auror programme instead and Ginny was starting her seventh year.
Maybe this is a chance to make new friends, she thought to herself as she pulled her battered trunk from underneath her bed, I need some more girl friends anyway- I spend too much time with boys. I wonder who else got accepted?
The months flew past in a blur and in no time she was standing on Platform 9 ¾. Oh, how she'd missed it! The nervous chattering of the first years, seeing her friends, she'd missed it all. Hermione sighed in bliss. All was well.
"Holy Hera!" Hermione turned around to see a tall, black haired boy come through the barrier. As she watched he turned and looked back at the way he'd came, giving a whoop of excitement. He looked the same age as her and was probably here to go to the college. She did not recognise him though- had he not gone to Hogwarts?
The train whistled and Hermione climbed on board. The second compartment she checked was free so she went in, hoping to read some of her book on the ride. Her peace was disturbed however when someone cleared their throat.
"Can I sit here?" It was the boy from earlier. But woah, was he hot! Hermione blushed at her thoughts and nodded. The guy sat down. "I'm Percy Jackson" He said with a slight accent, holding out his hand for her to shake. Hermione said her name and shook his hand, then asked Percy if he had previously gone to Hogwarts. It turns out that he was from America- explains the accent, she thought- but didn't know he was a wizard. When he found out he had moved over here to learn more about the wizarding world. According to him, Hogwarts College was the only place that accepted him, the other schools wouldn't take him because of his lack of knowledge.
"Everywhere else is full- do you mind?" Draco Malfoy stood at the door, but it didn't seem like him at all. His arrogance and swagger were gone, and where was his trademark sneer? Hermione frowned and was about to answer him when Percy lept to his feet, giving her a scare.
"Draco?" He asked, a beam on his face.
Malfoy's face broke out into a grin. "Percy? I haven't seen you in ages!" Great, Hermione thought, I meet a nice guy and he's friends with Malfoy- just her luck. Ah well, she didn't have time for boys anyway, she needed to focus on her schoolwork.
To her distaste the two boys sat down, both of them beaming, even Malfoy.
"I didn't know you were a wizard!" Percy said giving Malfoy a hug- wait, what! Malfoy let someone hug him? Hermione pinched herself to check if she was dreaming. Nope, wide awake.
"This explains everything, why you didn't come to school and.." Percy started speaking in a different language and Hermione's head shot up. What language was that? It was probably Latin as she couldn't recognise any of the words. Never mind, she had other questions to ask.
"How come you know Malfoy if you're from America?" She asked when Percy had finished talking.
"I go to Summer Camp with him." Malfoy said in his annoyingly smooth voice, though she detected a tremor, which caused her to smile briefly before she raised her eyebrows in surprise at his answer. Malfoy wasn't the type at all to go to summer camps. The subject in question didn't look her in the eyes and the tremor from his voice suggested he was...nervous? This definitely wasn't normal.
"Why don't you call him Draco, that's his name." Percy asked, shifting in his seat.
"He calls me Granger. It's a formality." Hermione replied, missing out the part where they were mortal enemies. And the part where she punched him.
"Not all the time, Hermione." When Malfoy spoke her name a shiver went down her spine. Well, a name is just a name, she thought.
"Fine, Draco. Happy now?" Did he just smile? Hermione had to do a double take. Malfo- Draco, was smiling?
"Guys, I don't know anything about the wizarding world. Could you teach me?" Percy spoke, giving Hermione a sheepish grin that melted her insides. Damn this boy's adorable face.
"Sure." And for the rest of the ride, they did. Hermione and Draco didn't speak to each other much, but that was soon sorted when Percy suggested a game of truth or dare.
