Merida's revenge

Authors note: continued Drabble of Hiccup's sacrafice.  Some sadness in the midst just warning you

3 months later

Merida's POV
The love of my life was taken away from me. He gave up his life to save me and his dragon. Toothless is all I have left of him......but these months of agony were not in vain. I spent hours figuring out how I was going to bring Hiccup back. I am now traveling to far lands using Toothless as my guide to find anything or anyone that can help me in my quest.

6 months since curse
I came across a winter spirit named Jack Frost who talked about a magic spell that could kill the most darkest of creatures.

"Not many come back from this journey." He told me.

"I'm not most people." I replied. "Now tell me how do I acquire this spell." I asked him.

"Well what will I get if I give you this spell Princess?" The winter spirit asked floating in mid air.

"I'll give you all the gold you can hold." I replied.

"I'm a winter spirit what would I do with gold?" He retorted.

"What do you want then?" I asked.

He thought about it for a moment and snapped his fingers as the idea came to him. "I want the Snow Queen's castle!"

"Can't you make your own ice castle?" I questioned him.

"I've never been one for construction or architecture. Plus I love messing with the Snow Queen." He replied.

"Fine if you tell me how to get the spell and I save my Hiccup, then I will get you the ice castle deal?"

"Deal." He smiled. "Now to get the spell you have to go into the Forest of Curiosity. There you will meet the queen of the forest. To summon her just say the words 'I know something you don't know.' Ask her to trade the spell for a secret. It has to be true. Trust me she can tell if you're lying and it has to be good or else she won't give it up."

"Thank you winter spirit."

"Call me Jack Frost I hate formalities," he replied. "Oh and one more thing, if you don't give her a good secret by the third try, she'll turn you into a tree."

"Good to know." I replied walking away.

"Since I was kind enough to mention it I must ask for one more favor." Jack Frost said.

I stopped in my tracks. What could he want now?

"When I acquire my ice castle you and your Hiccup shall visit me at least three times a year. I like the company." He said.

I smiled for the first time in a while and turned around. "Of course Frost."

With that he disappeared and I was off to the Forest of Curiosity.

8 months
The forest was foggy. I could barely see anything except grey and hints of green from the trees. I found what looked like a clearing. I thought for a little while of what I was going to tell her. I only had three chances so I better make them good ones. Secrets, i had one in mind but I wish never to repeat it. If I could think of something else then I would use that instead.

I turned my mother into a bear. But most of the kingdom knew that already. I looked at Toothless for support. "Do you know any secrets?" I asked him.

He just blinked at me and tilted his head. I thought harder. Hiccup and I are engaged. No one knows that except me and him. That could be one. I couldn't wait to think of anything else. This one would have to do.

"I know something you don't know." I called out.

The fog seemed to swirl around me. It went around forming a human like figure, until a woman whose hair looked like gold and eyes greener than any tree appeared in front of me.

"Ah a secret!" She smiled. "I hope you'll make it worth my wild."

"I will, but first if I tell you. You shall tell me the spell that will defeat any darkness and how to use it."

"I promise. I always keep my promises." She smiled. "Now spill."

"Me and Hiccup are engaged and no one else knows but us," I stated.

She looked at me and laughed. "You call that a secret? Surely if he has been courting you for sometime people expect it! Next one please."

I had to think quickly something no one knows or would expect, "I never thought I would marry anyone until I met Hiccup,"

"Hmm a little better but not good enough you have one more chance before I get bored with you." She replied. "No offense you seem nice but I have a reputation to uphold,"

I took a gulp. I knew what I had to say. It brought tears to my eyes just thinking about it, but I guess that means it will satisfy her.

I breathed in. "I had a miscarriage before Hiccup was taken from me. He didn't even know I was pregnant. That's why Pitch was able to attack me because I kept having nightmares about me losing the baby and how I might not be able to have children." I felt the tears fall from my face as I scolded myself for feeling so exposed and weak. I might as well be turned into a tree to escape this.

I felt her hand lift my chin up. "That was what I was waiting for," she said. "I am truly sorry for your loss. I shall give you the spell, you have satisfied my curiosity for now."

She wiped my tear away. "You must be pure of heart and you are not. Don't be to upset very few people are. So you must drink from the stream of innocence." She waved her hand and a stream appeared before me,

"It will be painful but worth it. Once you drink this you will be immune to Pitch's powers. You must utter the words 'As light descends darkness shall end.' Pitch will be destroyed by the light inside of you and Hiccup's soul will be released."

"Thank you." I replied. I looked down at the stream and kneeled. I took a handful of water in my hands and took a drink. It tasted of normal water nothing special. I stood up but she made me sit back down.

"Trust me you're going to want to sit down." She said.

Finally I felt the sharp pain in my heart. It felt like my heart was drowning. I screamed as my heart ached like it had eight months ago. I cursed and shouted until finally I blacked out from pain.

I woke up still in the forest. The Queen of the forest was hovering above me. "You lasted longer than others before you. Some have actually died because their dark deeds were too deep. Luckily you mostly had dark thoughts that you didn't act upon."

She lifted me up and I felt lighter somehow.

"I'll be on my way, Thank you." I said.

"Oh Princess, I want to tell you something you don't know. Call this an act of compassion for all that has come to you," she said.

"Yes?" I asked.

"I see a little prince in your future." She smiled.

"How do you know?" I asked her.

"How does anyone know anything?" She asked in return and disappeared.

10 months
I went back to the lair where I was ten months ago. I saw my Hiccup chained to the place he was before. He hadn't changed at all. It almost looked like he was asleep,

"Pitch!" I yelled.

"You don't need to shout dear," His slithering voice entered my ears I turned to see him,

"Something is different about you." He said. "You look less tired than I thought you would."

"Let's just say some stream water does wonders." I replied.

He looked impressed. "So you're pure of heart now? How sweet. I bet that was hard for you, so I can't touch you with my powers, doesn't mean you can touch me, I'm afraid you've made this even more boring."

"Oh but don't you want to know how I got to the stream?" I asked. "You see you find out a lot of things in the Forest of Curiosity. Including spells."

He looked afraid now. Or at least nervous. "That's impossible, your pride is too important to you for you to give up that dark of a secret in return."

"Oh but you don't understand. Hiccup is more important to me than my silly pride. Now I would like to begin. As light descends darkness ends!" I shouted.

"No! No! What have you done?!" He cried. Specks of light appeared on the dark being. It looked as if fireflies were lighting up his skin. He screamed with pain as it seemed to be burning him up. He light flashed and I couldn't see him anymore. I closed my eyes from the brightness. Until finally I heard nothing. I looked and the light was gone and all that was left of Pitch was dark ash.

I ran to Hiccup. His body was still limp. "Hiccup, it's over now it's over. Wake up, please wake up."

I looked up from his body and saw a glowing presence. It touched Hiccup and seem to disappear into his skin. I felt him breathe. His eyes flickered open and I saw him alive as ever,

"Merida?" He asked.

"It's me." I cried with joy as I hugged him tightly, "you saved me." He said.

"You saved me first," I replied,

Years passed and Hiccup and I are married. I kept my promise and got Jack his ice castle. Let's just say the Snow Queen wasn't happy to be thrown out of her castle but she intends to get it back and I have no responsibility for what will happen to Jack Frost. Hiccup and I visited him three times a year as promised. He even became a good friend of ours and we began inviting him over.

The Queen of the Forest was correct, Hiccup and I had a son. He's perfect in every way possible. I wish to thank the Queen of the Forest but I prefer not risking being turned into a tree again,

Pitch has never returned. He got what he deserved and I hope I helped the lost souls of others return to their rightful places,

For now I'm simply at peace with being a mother, a wife, and receiving the title of Merida, Queen of Scotland, Warrior of Light.
