Bewitched (part 1)
Once upon a time there was a beautiful witch named Merida. She was very cunning and wonderful at spells. However as the times changed witches began being persecuted and destroyed out of fear. She went into hiding and now lived as a simple woodcarver like her former teacher had. She even secured a cloaking spell so no one could find her hut unless she wanted them to. This spell lasted for years until one day a young man from a small village was wandering around the woods.
There he saw the young witch's hut. He was known to be a curious one so he couldn't help but go up to the mysterious hut and knock on its door.
Merida jumped at the sudden knock at the door. She hadn't had company in a while.
She snapped her fingers and a magic mirror appeared in her hand.
"Mirror show me who is outside my hut please." She asked.
The mirror showed her the young man known as Hiccup standing outside her hut.
"That can't be, no one can see me." She said.
"Dearie you don't get to pick who finds you. If they really need you they will find you." She heard her teacher's words in her head.
She opened the door.
"We're closed," she said and slammed the door shut before the man could say anything.
He was a bit confused and decided to knock on the door once again.
She opened it again "What do you not get that we're closed."
She tried to shut the door again but something blocked the door. It was the young man's foot, well actually it was his prosthetic foot made of steel.
"I was wondering if I could speak to the owner?" Hiccup asked.
"I am the owner and we spoke now goodbye." She said through the tiny opening of the door.
"What do you sell here?"
"Wood carvings." She replied.
"May I see some?" He asked.
"No." She said "Ow!"
A broom stick had hit her on the head.
"Are you alright?"
She muttered a swear and rubbed her head "Yes something from the shelf fell. Listen do you have money to pay for one of my carvings?" She asked.
"Yeah I have 12 shillings," he said.
"Fine that's good enough. Look around pick out something you like." She said.
The young man looked around the little hut. Whatever he thought was inside compared nothing to what was in front of him. Hundreds of wood carvings, chairs, dressers, tables, bowls, vases, everything! Most of them had some sort of bear design.
"I'm guessing your favorite animal is a bear?" Hiccup said.
"I prefer horses actually, most of these were made by the previous owner but the ones with horses are all mine." She replied as she began another wood carving,
"You know I've seen this place at least a dozen times and I never thought it would be a wood carving store."
Merida's eyes shifted back to the young man. "This isn't the first time you've seen this place?"
"No of course not. I just didn't have the time to come inside, but I found it a couple of weeks ago,"
"That's impossible. I'm sure I did it correctly... Who else has seen my house?" She asked accusingly.
Merida grabbed her bow and held an arrow in the other,
"Nobody I promise, just me and my dragon." He said backing away calmly.
Merida dropped her bow and arrow. She hadn't heard of dragons for years. She thought they had all gone extinct by now. Now this man was saying he owned one.
"Who are you?" She asked.
"I'm Hiccup the Horrendous Haddock the third. Chief of Berk." He stated,
"What do you need?" She asked,
"Excuse me?" He asked confused
She sighed heavily "what do you need people can't find this place unless I want them to or they need something and since I don't know you and you don't seem like a woodcarving collector I am asking you what do you need?"
"I don't know.... I don't think I need anything at the moment."
"There has to be something! Come on think about it!" Merida insisted shaking his shoulders,
Merida started to levitate as she grew more and more anxious, she became light as a feather
"What the? How are you doing that?!" Hiccup yelled.
She looked down in shock and instantly planted her feet back to the ground.
"How did you do that?" Hiccup asked.
"Do what? I did nothing I was just standing here." Merida said quickly.
"No I saw you.. you levitated!"
"Nope sorry you must be mistaken. Oh look at the time we're closed goodbye" she said pushing him out the door and slamming it shut. She breathed a sigh of relief. How stupid was she to show her powers in front of a regular person. All though she was used to having no one around to see she knew she should've been more careful.
Knock knock
"Dammit." She said as she sat on the floor and leaned against the door.
"Hey I know what I need now. I need answers." Hiccup said.
"We're closed." She said.
The broom hit her once again on the head.
"Ow!" She shouted, "would you stop doing that!" She whispered,
The broom stood up on its own and grew arms. It crossed them disapprovingly,
"What do you expect me to do? If he finds out who I am then I could be captured or killed!"
The broom wagged his finger,
"oh how do you know he wouldn't do that?"
The broom walked over and got out a book and turned it to a page. Merida walked over to it and saw that the broom had shown her an honesty spell.
"Ugh fine but if he says he wants to turn me in I'm turning him into a ferret." She replied,
She waltz over to the door and opened it. He was still there waiting.
"Okay listen I am going to make you and I a couple of drinks alright? I'll answer your questions but you have to answer mine deal?" She asked.
"Deal." He said.
Merida went to her cabinet and got a bottle of cranberry juice. She poured herself a glass and then poured her guest one. She added powder of toad and hair of a sphinx.
She gave him his drink and they sat at the table. He took a sip "is this cranberry juice?" He asked.
"Yes." She replied "now for my questions."
"It tastes terrible." He said.
"Well at least the honesty potion has worked quickly,"
"Honesty potion! You drugged me?" He asked.
"Oh hush it was only a little now my questions, Why are you here?"
"I was curious about an old hut I had seen in the forests of Scotland,"
" Are you a witch hunter?" She asked.
"No! I didn't even know witches existed until now. You know you could've done this without drugging me I'm a pretty honest person." He said,
"Will you turn me in or reveal my location to anyone if I answer your questions?"
"Do you want me to?" He asked.
"No,"
"Then I won't." He replied. "Can I ask you questions now?"
"Fine, ask." She replied sipping her own cranberry juice.
"How did you levitate?"
"I'm a witch. Witches tend to have powers. When I'm anxious I levitate, when I'm sad I make things rain and if I'm angry well let's just say you don't want to be there," she replied,
Hiccup looked confused,
"Are you scared of me?" She asked him.
"Just a little...." He admitted shifting uncomfortably in his seat.
"Are there more witches?" Hiccup asked.
"Probably just not a lot around here witches were being persecuted a few years ago so most went into hiding or died." She replied.
There was an uncomfortable silence for a moment until finally Merida asked another question.
"Why are you scared of me?"
"Well you drugged me, you could've just asked me all of this," he replied.
"Fine I apologize for drugging you but I had to take safety precautions,"
"Alright. I guess I can understand that. Can I come back tomorrow? I have to be back before nightfall or else the baby dragons aren't going to be happy if they aren't fed." He said,
"I guess so." She said,
"Okay I'll come back tomorrow." He said. "Oh by the way how long does this honesty potion last?"
"Oh about an hour." She said.
"Oh great. That should be fun I'll try not to talk to too many people then." He said getting up from his chair.
"Will you really come back tomorrow?"
"Yes." He replied.
"Why?" She asked.
"I like talking to you....plus I've never had a friend who could levitate without a dragon." He smiled.
She smiled "alright until tomorrow,"
"Until tomorrow." He replied
