ROOP's POV
"Look at this cute little thing! Why can I not be there beside you?" I winced, seeing the baby room that Asad Bhai had recently finished painting. there were all sorts of toy's lying around, the large size teddy being the best part of it, with a cot by the window and a swing handing from the ceiling, right in the middle of the room.
"Then tell Waqas to send you here, we are neighbours after all," Raniya api chuckled, clutching on to her swollen belly.
"Aa jaungi, aapka shehzada aa jayega na, toh main bhi aa jaungi," I told her and she grinned. "Aur isse kaheen apni Khala Ka hi intezaar ho bas, toh?"
"Api!" I winced again, "aisa na kahein na. You know I can't come, Waqas is too busy these days."
"Waqas is busy, you are not. And I asked you to come, not him," she shrugged, making me roll my eyes.
"Unke bina kaise aau?" I muttered to myself.
"Suna tumne!" Asad Bhai pointed out, amused, making my eyes go wide, "did you just hear what she said?"
Api nodded at him and I rolled my eyes again, "please, aap apni badteesi na hi dikhayein toh behtar. Remember when you got married api, he wouldn't let you come over alone, even when he used to be at work?"
This time she nodded, agreeing with me, and I stuck my tongue out at Asad Bhai.
"Raaniya beghum, tumhaari behen Kuch zyada hi Badi ho gayi hai, Nahi?" He huffed, playing along, and I laughed, "kaheen yeh wahan Ki hawa Ka asar toh Nahi?"
"Koi farak Nahi hai hawa main," I rolled my eyes and chuckled.
"Garmi bhi ek jaisi hi padti hai," Waqas spoke behind me, as he came inside the kitchen and I turned to look at him.
"Good morning everyone, I am so late, and bye," he added in a hurry and went out again.
"Two minutes," I excused myself and ran outside with his thermos, "Waqas coffee."
"Oh, thanks," he smiled, looking up from his watch that he was trying to wrap around his wrist. Is it the right time to talk about it?
"Let me," I took the watch from him and tied it around his wrist.
"Chal, bye," before I could even think, he touched my cheek, bidding me goodbye, and left.
"Waqas, wait!" I yelled, just when he was about to get inside the elevator, and he stopped to frown at me.
Is it even the right time to talk? He seems in a hurry, I should probably save it for later.
"Good luck for your meeting and give my regards to Atif," I smiled instead. He sighed for some reason, before coming towards me.
"Thanks," he said and gave me a hug; holding me close for a little longer than I had expected. It felt as if he was trying to calm himself; but why? Maybe he is just nervous about the meeting, I answered my question myself and pulled away, smiling.
"Come back soon," Slightly going on my toes, I leaned closer and stole a Peck on his cheek. He awkwardly chuckled, scratching the back of his neck and pressed the call button again.
Sharma toh aise rahein Hein jaise inki izzat Pe hath daal diya ho.
Once he was gone, I headed back inside, only to realise that api had ended the call already. Sighing, I picked up my coffee mug and sat on the couch, ready for yet another boring and lonely day. Waqas was supposed to be home today but, Atif decided to plan a meeting about something important; Waqas didn't really get a chance to tell me.
Remembering that Aisha must be free too, I decided to Skype her, but she came online, looking busy as always.
"Do minute," she told me, breathing loudly, and ran somewhere. Yeah sure, take your time.
Seconds later, she came back with Rishab in her arms and a towel over her shoulder. She made him stand on the bed and began dressing him.
"Badmash, kapre pehenta hi Nahi hai," she chuckled, widening her eyes at me. I giggled, seeing Rishab still trying to escape from her grip.
"Rishab shame shame ho jaayegi," I told him and he gasped, covering his mouth. Once Aisha made him wear his clothes, he jumped off the bed and ran away.
"Hey listen, I was thinking let's meet up?" I asked Aisha once she had settled down.
"That's cool," she smiled and then sighed, "but not today because Atif already made plans."
"Atif made plans?" I chuckled, "Mera Sunday kharab Kar Ke Woh tumhein—"
"Aye, what did I do?" before I could finished, Atif popped up on the screen, right behind Aisha, leaving me surprised for a moment. She tilted the camera so I could see properly and found him lying in his bed.
"You have a meeting with Waqas, no?" I frowned at him. Maybe he forgot about it?
"Uh no," he shook his head, "we haven't even talked for a week or so."
"The man who refuses to work during the week, you expect him to work on the weekend?" Aisha teased him, "kya joke mara hai, Roop!"
"Haha whatever," Atif rolled his eyes and Aisha laughed.
"Uhm, I'll talk to your later, yeah?" I spoke, cutting through their laugh and Atif frowned at me.
"I really don't know where he is. Is everything okay?" He asked and I forced a smile.
"Yeah, every thing is fine. He said Adeel and not Atif. I just remembered," lying, I quickly ended the call and took a deep breath.
Maybe it is Adeel. I mean, he might have accidentally taken Atif's name. Deciding, I picked up my phone and dialled Adeel's number. The bell kept ringing while I debated if I should cut the call. In a way I was spying on him; It felt wrong in so many ways.
"Hi, it's Adeel, I am currently out of town so please leave a message and I'll try to get back to you as soon as I come back. Thanks," his recorded message spoke and sighing, I ended the call.
Maybe he just didn't want to tell me, Running a hand through my hair, I decided to forget about it and to divert my mind, I chose to cook. Half way through collecting all the ingredients, the impatient woman inside me gave up and I thought of checking if he was with Hussain maybe.
He picked up my call just after three rings and I strongly hoped that he was with Waqas.
"Hello bhabhi Ji, yaad aa gayi Hamari?" He yawned, chuckling. I rolled my eyes at this sickly sweet devar of mine. Waqas issi se kuch seekh lete.
"Aa gayi. In fact you should come home with Waqas. Aaj raat dinner hamare saath hi Kar Lena."
"Oh, aaj toh possible Nahi hai," he sighed, disappointing me, "I just came back from night shoot and I need to go again in the evening."
"Oh yeah," I said, remembering his schedule these days, "so what about lunch?"
"Sawal hi paida Nahi hota," he chuckled, "I have just eaten breakfast and now I am going to sleep. Shaam tak neend Nahi khulegi. Shooting ki wajah Se Saara routine hil Gaya hai."
He is going to sleep now so he is definitely not with Waqas. Did I hear the name wrong? What if it was someone else and I am just getting worried for no reason?
"Oh you must be tired na? You should sleep but we will definitely plan something soon," I spoke, trying to sound as much included in the conversation as I could.
"Yeah sure," he replied, "I am in India for about two more weeks so let's plan something next weekend."
"Great," I said quite enthusiastically before sighing heavily. We bid each other goodbye and ended the call.
Should I call Waqas? Maybe I am just overthinking, I groaned, cursing my brain that likes to jump to conclusions randomly. I am sure I heard the name wrong; why trouble him for such a little thing?
I didn't want to keep guessing and create scenarios in my brain about where he was but, neither was I planning to call him and clarify. What would I say if I called him anyway? Hey husband, I am just keeping an eye on you. Mind giving up on your privacy?
Ridiculous.
Sighing, I got up again and headed back to the kitchen. I felt like eating something sweet so I chose to make quick bite size fudge in small cupcake cases. I could seriously eat the whole lot right now.
Once the oven started beeping, I quickly pulled the dish out, and without waiting for them to cool down, I picked four cupcakes. Peeling off the paper, I kept them in a large bowl and added two scoops of vanilla ice cream to it. I pulled out the chocolate syrup from the fridge and double checked the expiry date before pouring that in. Heaven!
About ninety thousand people die each year in Pakistan because of diabetes. But, if death is going to be this beautiful, I am ready to happily embrace it.
Plopping down on the couch, I turned on the TV to a music channel and raised the volume, high enough to block all the voices in my head that were about to yell at me any second. Yet, it didn't help.
WAQAS' POV
Sighing, I rubbed my face, and looked down at my watch. It was four pm already and I was still stuck here. Roop must be waiting. I pulled out my phone to call her but, then stopped; I can't do that because that might lead to another lie. Usse jhooth bolna acha Nahi lagta.
"Sir, you want something?" A girl came and asked, snapping me out of my thoughts.
"No," I shook my head, "you know how long it might take?"
"I don't know sir," she sighed, "Ma'am seems to be a little busy."
"Right," I nodded, disappointed, and got up, "I'll come some other time. Let her know I left."
"Sorry about that," she sighed again and I shook my head. "The fault is mine."
MALVIKA's POV
"He left," Rhea informed me. I double checked, through my window's blinds, and sighed.
The guy who once used to barge in my cabin without permission, is the one Who was sitting for hours outside my door, yet I didn't let him in. What does he want now? Didn't he do enough damage the other day? Why does he keep coming back?
"I am going home," I told Rhea as I collected my bag and she nodded at me. Grabbing my car keys, I walked out of the office; there were a few whispers here and there but I was too tired to deal with them. People talk and you can't stop them, can you?
Honestly, I'd love to have him in front of me everyday, have coffee, talk about the most random things ever, dig into pizza; in short, have my friend back. But that won't ever let us move on; there is a present he needs to accept which he clearly hasn't. Or else, why would he come to meet me today?
The elevator stopped in the basement and Sucking in a deep breath I stepped out of it. I blinked my eyes, trying to not let them get wet because of all the memories that were flooding my mind. We were good the way we were. You ruined everything, Waqas; My friendship - not just with you but with everyone in the group. Things won't ever be the same!
"Badi Jaldi free ho gayi!" Someone whispered behind me and I stopped walking instantly.
"Sach main busy Thi ya milna Nahi tha?" He asked as I turned to face him. Sighing, I looked away from his face instantly.
He chuckled softly and shook his head before running his hand through his hair. I stayed still while he stepped closer; his footsteps echoed in this empty place with just cars.
"I am only here to talk," he spoke in a whisper and suddenly everything from that night came rushing to my mind; How things have gotten out of hands in the kitchen when he want to just 'talk.'
"Talk," I chuckled, rolling my eyes, "yeah right. Aaj Aur insult karni hai Meri? Uss din Dil Nahi bhara?"
"Mal—" he was about to hold my hand when I stepped away from him, craving for fresh air.
"Don't touch me!" I told him sternly and looked away.
"Okay," he sighed, "look whatever happened that day, I —"
"I don't want to talk about that day. In fact, I don't want to talk to you. You are wasting my time Waqas, I need to go," I told him, not wanting yet another scene. I batted my eyelids as my vision slightly blurred again.
"Dekh ek bar Meri—" he halted abruptly as I rolled my eyes again and his eyes darkened, "what's this attitude all about? Aram Se sirf baat karna chahta hoon!"
I flushed back at his tone; a million things rushed in my mind. Can I talk to him? Am I ready to be insulted by him again? No, I just don't want him around me anymore!
"Aur Mujhe Nahi karni, don't you get it?" I countered back, raising my voice, "now if you could please?"
I furiously walked past him and unlocked my car to shove my belongings in there.
"Malvika—"
"Waqas please!" I raised my hand, stopping him from stepping any closer to me, "we have talked enough already. You need to leave, I don't want you anywhere near me."
Saying, I opened the front door of my car. Just when I was about to sit inside, he pushed me to a side, closing the door.
"What the hell!" I screamed in reflex. He clenched his jaw, making his temple turn a slightly darker shade of red. If things between us were the way they were before, I wouldn't have been scared. But right now, I was. This man was a stranger.
"I came here to apologise okay? So can you please hear me out?" He gritted through his teeth and left me, slightly pushing me backward. My back slammed against my car and I held on to it for support.
"Kis kis baat Ki Maafi maango ge Waqas? Sab toh tumne barbaad Kar diya," I found myself asking. He looked at me, frowning, and then looked away.
"Yeah you are right," he chuckled, rolling his eyes, "tera Bohot time waste ho jaayega na. After all, you are a very busy person. Sorry Miss Malvika... Arora. And .... good bye."
My heart clenched as he whispered the last part and stepped away from me before turning around to walk away. I watched him get inside his car and race out of the parking lot. As soon as he left, my knees gave up on me and I dropped to the ground.
If only I deserved you.
ROOP's POV
The loud sound of the door banging shut woke me up. A thief? I panicked but, soon realised It must be Waqas. My eyes traveled to the wall clock and widened once I realised the time. Two thirty am.
Which meeting takes this long? I wondered and got out of the bed. Before I could go out, Waqas came inside and stopped by the door to look up at me.
"Soyi Nahi?" He asked and I shook my head. "I just woke up."
He kept his bag inside the cupboard and took out his clothes to change.
"Bohot dayr ho gayi, Nahi?" I asked him and he just hummed, "you and Atif must have had a good time."
Please tell who you were with Waqas.
"Yeah," he sighed, and sat down on the bed to take off his shoes. I gulped down the lump on my throat; so he did lie to me.
"I called Aisha today, we are planning a dinner next weekend. We were going to have it tonight but Atif was taking her and Rishab out for the day."
Waqas looked up instantly with his mouth wide open. He cleared his throat and got up from the bed, "Woh Atif Nahi. I was with—"
"Adeel out of town hai Aur Hussain pura din so raha tha. He has a night shoot."
"Have you been spying on me?" He suddenly narrowed his eyes at me, grumpily. Shouldn't I be the one getting angry?
"No I was just—" I was about to speak when he took two large strides toward me, making me shut up.
"Listen, where I go and who I go with, shouldn't be your concern," He hissed at me, making me gulp again. Itna gussa Kyun?
"Waqas I—" I shivered when he raised his index finger at me.
"Whoever I was with is none of your concern. Don't get into my personal space again," he said, still glaring at me, and I silently nodded. My fingers pulled on to my sleeves' fabric as I nervously played with them.
He gave me one last look and went inside the washroom to change. I released the breath that I was holding on to and sat on the bed. Pal main badal jata hai yeh insaan. Kabhi itna muskuraate Hein Aur kabhi ajnaabi ban jaate Hein.
The washroom's door opened again and I quickly got up, "are you hungry?"
"Nahi," he gave me a blunt answer and walked out to the balcony. I nodded to myself and sucked in a deep breath. Fine. Whatever. Lying down on the bed, I turned away from his side and pulled the blanket up to my head, silently waiting for sleep to take over.
*F E W D A Y S L A T E R*
"Oh ho Roop, ab toh aa Ja na," api sighed on the other side of the screen and so did I, "talk to Waqas. He would let you."
If only.
Waqas and I haven't been talking much lately. He goes to work in the evening and comes back in the morning to sleep. I don't even now if he has been working or just lying to me. But I wouldn't ask as he might get angry again. In fact, I haven't tried talking to him at all and whenever he tries to talk, I only reply in the shortest way possible. Meri galti thori hai; he is the one who asked me to not get into his personal space.
"Ask Waqas What?" My eyes widened when I heard his voice behind me.
"Nothing," I told him coldly and he looked at me, blankly.
"My delivery date is in two days, and I want Roop to visit us. Tum do din Ke liye bhi Nahi aa sakte kya?" Api asked him before I had a chance to stop her. Yeah, let's go there so everyone can sense the tension between us.
"If Roop wants to go then I don't see why not?" Waqas frowned at me and I looked away, "I'll see... next weekend Ki tickets book karta hoon main."
"Are you serious!" I shrieked, unexpectedly. I thought he had work. He just shrugged and smiled at Api, "anything for the new little member."
He is only acting sweet because of for her. Mujhse Pata Nahi kya allergy hai inhein.
"See I told you, he isn't that busy," Api told me and I smiled awkwardly, knowing very well that he was staring at me.
"If you wanted to go, you were supposed to tell me," he spoke just when I ended the call.
"Oh well, I thought you were too busy with your meetings," I rolled my eyes at him, "and isn't talking to you almost like getting into your personal space? I might end up interrupting a few meetings, no?"
I got up to leave and he sighed loudly, "you might want to do some shopping, I am meeting Hussain at a restaurant so I'll drop you at the mall. Get ready."
"No thanks, I'll take a cab if I want to go," I told him and walked out of the room.
