ROOP's POV
I woke up still strangled in his arms. He held me so close like I might slip away. Never.
"Waqas? Waqas!" I nudged him. He frowned in his sleep and moved away, giving me the opportunity to get up quickly. I replaced myself with a pillow and smiled seeing him sleeping soundly.
Tying my hair up, I picked up my phone and raised my eyebrows, seeing Aisha's missed calls. I went to the washroom first to freshen up and then walked out of the room so I don't end up disturbing Waqas.
"So glad you called back!" She sighed from the other end the moment she answered my call.
"Sorry, I was sleeping!" I apologised, "there was a party last night so we got so late!"
"Acha acha, I didn't ask for explanations about your night, subha trailer dekh liya," she commented. I sensed a smirk.
"What do you mean?" I frowned at her as I entered the kitchen. "You will see in Bollywood News," she told me and I rolled my eyes, groaning internally, remembering those nosy photographers.
"Why did you call me?" I asked, ignoring the rest, and she sighed.
"Atif planned a day out and Malvika isn't in town.. I don't want to say no to him because lately we haven't been spending much time together. Beside we need to do Rishab's birthday shopping too. So can you please....."
"Yeh bhi koi poochne ki baat hai bhala?" I asked, cutting her off, "drop him off and enjoy your day."
"Aw thank you so much!" She shrieked, making me laugh, "we will be there in half an hour."
She ended the call and I turned on the stove to make coffee. Cleaning the kitchen side by side, I decided on what to make for Rishab's lunch and of course it included some chocolate milkshake. Mikshake, he would call it. I smiled remembering his cute voice and poured the coffee.
"Good morning!" I announced as I entered the room with out mugs and kept them on the nightstand. Then I drew the curtains, which made Waqas frown in his sleep. He turned away from the light and threw a pillow on his face.
"Sone de na!" He groaned, giving me his back. First I thought about pulling his blanket but then I realised he wasn't wearing a shirt. It's not that he'd mind if I pulled his blanket but main toh marr jaungi na...
"Waqas, get up! Rishab is going to be here soon!" I shook him as I sat beside him. "Whatever," he replied before I heard him snoring again.
Bas sula lo inhein.
The doorbell rang and I stood up, leaving him sleeping there. I was greeted by Rishab the moment I opened the door but instead of addressing me, he ran right past me to the bedroom. Maybe he knows that's Waqas' room. Aisha quickly bid me goodbye, leaving a handbag full of Rishab's clothes and important things. I smiled as she entered the elevator, looking super excited. Chalo, at least someone's got a happening romantic life.
"Rishu Kya kar raha hai?" I asked him as I entered the bed room. He was hugging Waqas from behind, trying to wake him up but as usual, Waqas was sleeping like nothing else existed. Rishab just looked up at me and shrugged. He didn't react much to me since we are not that familiar with each other.
Suddenly, I had an idea and I went to my sewing room. Things weren't in place yet but I had a very important tool in it. I smirked, grabbing my fabric pens and ran back to the bedroom.
"Rishu, colouring karega," I grinned at him as he took the black and blue pen from me. I opened the lid for him, leaving him alone with —ehem— Waqas' back.
So jitna sona hai.
I picked up the coffee mugs and poured them down the sink in the kitchen since the coffee wasn't hot anymore. Pulling out the milkshake maker, I tossed in some drinking chocolate, for flavour, and milk. Once the milkshake was ready, I poured it in Rishab's sipper and took it back to the room. I gasped seeing Waqas' back along with my new bedsheets that were now painted black. Rishab had scribbled something on Waqas' arm and exposed cheek too.
Haye, aaj Pakka mari main. Yeh Kya kar diya Maine?
Pulling Rishab off the bed, I made him sit on the couch and gave him his milkshake. Waqas tossed and turned until he finally woke up and I prepared myself for the explosion.
He yawned, getting out of the bed and smiled at me, "sorry I overslept."
No, I am sorry.
"Kuch kahan?" He frowned at me and I widened my eyes at him before shaking my head as no. Suddenly his widened his eyes and my breath hitched in my throat. The end is near! A voice yelled inside my head and I internally prayed for getting out of this alive.
"Yeh dekho, what happened here?" He asked as he picked up a pen from the bed and examined the bedsheet. Rishab giggled beside me and Waqas looked up again. His frown disappeared instantly as a smile replaced it.
"Aye! Yeh Kab aya?" Waqas grinned as he came forward and picked up Rishab. I hurriedly grabbed the sipper out of Rishab's hand when Waqas tossed him in the air, making him laugh. Waqas laughed along, making cute noises, tickling him, before making him sit on the couch again.
"Aye, tu rukk main aaya Abhi!" Waqas told Rishab, who nodded at him, and ran to the bathroom to freshen up.
"Rishab!" Waqas yelled from inside and I hid my face with the cushion instantly. The door burst open as Waqas stepped out and turned around, showing me his back.
"Look, what he did! Where were you? Rok nahi sakti Thi?" He freaked out, pointing at several places where Rishab had scribbled. "M-main Kya karoon. When I came inside, tab tak...." I tried speaking but my voice trailed off.
I didn't want to lie and blame Rishab for it.
"Ek minute," Waqas frowned at me and went back to the bed. He picked up the pen and I slowly stood up. "How did he get these."
"I can explain!" I told him in my defence. He huffed, in anger, keeping his hands on his waist, and I ran out of the room.
"Roop, I am not sparing you today!" He yelled as I heard his footsteps following me. I went around the couches, panting, and Rishab came out of the bedroom, laughing at us. Waqas came around, and I ran past Rishab, going inside the study. Lamest move ever.
My feet halted at the sound of the door closing with a loud bang. I turned around and spotted Waqas, locking it, scaring the day light out of me. I gulped when he turned around to grin at me.
"Rishab's alone," I reminded him and he shrugged. "He will be fine."
"Arey he is a little kid, now come on," I stepped towards him, trying to knock some senses into him, but he ran towards me like a crazy bull. I ran back instantly, screaming and laughing at the same time.
Running past his desk, I shoved his office chair in his way. I tried reaching for the door and jumped for the lock that was a little high for me. Waqas laughed behind me, indicating that he was dangerously close. I turned around and found him spinning my fabric pen between his fingers. His evil grin was fixed in place.
"Waqas no," I pouted at him, trying to act all innocent, while he smiled, pointing the pen's tip at me. Before it could touch my cheek, I bobbed down and slid away from him.
"Rukk!" He gasped as he chased me around. As I went around the couch, the fabric of my dress tangled with the edge of the table, causing me to slip. Suddenly I was being picked up and thrown on the couch. I shrieked, realising how badly I was captured, when Waqas held my hands about my head.
He laughed like a complete psycho while I tried negotiating with him.
"Please please please! I'll helps you clean up! I promise!" I yelled, laughing and crying at the same time. My eyes Sprung open when something wet touched my cheek and slightly dug into it.
"Please," I tried my luck and pouted at Waqas again. He looked into my eyes as he pulled away the pen, definitely leaving a mark on my cheek. His breath fanned my face as he hovered over me.
"You are helping me clean the mess," He said, sternly, like he was ordering me. I nodded at him, agreeing, and he pulled away. The moment he released my wrists, I pulled them downs and sat up straight, fixing my clothes.
"Chalo," Waqas spoke, making me widen my eyes. I thought he would just let it be.
"Chalein," I sighed and stood up.
"But, where did you get this pen from?" He asked me, frowning at it.
"I bought it the other day," I shrugged, "it helps while marking patterns on the fabric."
"Fabric matlab?" He questioned and I chuckled lightly. He followed me to the door as I tried reaching for the Lock and snuck his arm around mine, opening it in one go. Just because he isn't tall, doesn't mean that I am not shorter than him. Even if it's like an inch or two.
"When I cut fabric for stitching I mark the pattern on it so I cut the right shape. Like for dresses or tops," I explained to him, earning a deeper frown.
"Come I'll show you," I held his hand and dragged him to my special room where I only had a sewing machine and a table set up. The rest was still a mess.
"Woah, this is what you do here!" He whispered in surprise, looking around the room, "I didn't know you could do all this."
He picked up a pink polka dot fabric piece that was supposed to be the arm for a newborn's outfit, only if Asmaara or Raaniya Api end up having a girl.
"Aap mere baare main jaante hi Kya hein?" I found myself asking, feeling disappointed. He looked up and raised an eyebrow at me, making me regret my question but, we both knew it was true. He hardly knows me.
"Sorry," he mumbled, keeping the fabric down. I sighed when he turned away from me, "well you could ask me about myself now."
He turned to frown at me and I just shrugged. "I am a qualified designer and I worked with some famous fashion houses. Now I want to start my own boutique."
I paused and released a sharp breath, "uff kitne sawal poochte Hein aap." I walked past him while he kept frowning at me.
"Pagal," I heard him mutter and stopped instantly. "Aap pagal! Kitni baar samjhana parega."
"Pagal hoon na, kam samjh aata hai," he pulled my cheek before walking out of the room, leaving me to stare into empty space, smiling.
WAQAS' POV
Biwi Meri, Aur Mujhe hi Nahi Pata uski qualifications Ka. Lanat hai.
"Where do you want to open your boutique. I'll help out," I offered, genuinely, but she shook her head. "I will do it on my own one day. I should get the investors because I deserve it and not because you have the money."
I smiled at her, amused, "acha Ji, I am impressed. So plan Kya hai?"
"Abhi .... Pata Nahi..." she giggled, picking up Rishab, "Rishu kya khayega? Yummy yummy food?"
He nodded at her, grinning, "sh-keem." Roop frowned at me, basically asking me to translate, and I shook my head, chuckling, "he means ice cream."
She laughed, finally understanding, and kissed him on his cheek. "Kaunsi wali? Chocolate? First lets eat something and then we will go out for ice cream!"
"What say?" She looked at me and added. I nodded at her as I took Rishab from her and she went inside the kitchen.
I took Rishab to the study room and smiled, remembering what happened here. Sometimes she looks like the most innocent thing alive and sometimes she comes out as a complete Pagal. The way she gets defensive over that one word.
"Chal langoor!" I chuckled, making Rishab swing in my one arm as I threw him on the couch. He giggled, bouncing on the soft material. I picked up a couple of video games and kept them in front of him to choose from.
I had bought all those especially for Manik. I sighed remembering the old times when he would come over every now and then. When she and I were friends. When things were....... Normal between us.
Sitting beside Rishab, I waited for him to pick one game. He seemed like he was really having a hard time to choose between FIFA and Formula One. Manik would always choose FIFA; he was always attracted to GTA but all that violence Isn't for little kids.
Sometimes I wonder if I could invite Manik over but then I sit back and think. Do I want to meet her just yet? No.
"This one!" Rishab finally picked up Formula One and I chuckled at him. "Haar jaayega beta!"
"Naii!" He gasped, defensively and I laughed, pulling his cheek. "Rishab's gonna lose!" I teased him.
"Nai!" He screamed again, hitting me on thigh, and I widened my eyes at him, mockingly.
"Kyun tang kar rahe ho?" Roop entered the study and kept the coffee on the table. She sat beside me with a weird looking bottle in her hand. "Let me clean your back, there is no point of you playing because Rishab is going to win anyway," she stuck her tongue out at me, teasingly, as she leaned over me to give a hi five to Rishab.
I bet he didn't realise what it was for because he was too busy munching on the xbox controller but, he giggled when Roop cheered and hi fived him.
"Thats impossible, hmph," I huffed, folding my arms.
"Did you know there is I M Possible in impossible," she nodded at me, pressing her lips together, and I rolled my eyes. "Ghisi piti line baba adam ke zamane Ki!"
"Just because you know I am right," she flipped her hair, giving me attitude, as she sat back on the couch.
"Fine, lets race and find out then," I offered and she shook her head. "Bache Se haarne wale ho."
"We'll see," I told her and started the game.
Rishab took his sweet time in selecting a car while Roop constantly tried distracting me. Forty seconds in to the game, Rishab had crashed his car twice in the side wall already. I chose to go slower to give him time to get a hang of the game while Roop kept cheering for him. He kept giggling and crashing into the wall around every corner. Three laps later, we were finally racing for the finish line.
"Let me clean your back now," Roop stood in front of me, blocking my view. I scowled, not sparing a glance at her, and shoved her to my right, using my arm. Her sudden soft touch on my back caught me off guard and I shrieked, jumping in my seat. She rubbed the towel on my skin, purposely tickling me.
"Bas face rehta hai," she spoke as she bought the bottle closer to my face, "hairspray hai, close your eyes or it will sting."
"Hatt na yaar," I winced, pushing her away again when she tried closing my eyes.
Suddenly she kept her hand on my right cheek, pushing my face to the left, towards her, and I felt something soft come in contact. I widened my eyes, instantly looking at her, and she pouted at me, giving me a flying kiss. I raised my eyebrow at her in a shock more than amusement. Kuch zada hi pange nahi Le rahi?
"Cwash! (Crash)" Rishab's scream made me look away and I realised my car had stopped in the middle of the track. I shot a glare at Roop and she giggled at me as I turned to the screen again to play.
Seeing Rishab reaching the finish line, I pressed on the boost, going faster than before. "Ab koi hara kar dikhaye!" I stated and Roop gasped at me.
"Bache ho Kya?"
"Tum Se zada Nahi," I countered back, earning a scowl from her. My lips twitched upwards in a smirk, seeing her dropped jaw.
Rishab's car crashed on the wall again, right next to mine, and I picked up my pace, racing past him. I could see the black and white boxes on My side of the screen, indicating the finish line, and I used another one of my boosts. Rishab winced beside me, as he struggled to get back on the track and I chose to slow down again to give him time. Once he was on the track and ahead of me, I raced again only to be blocked by Roop.
All of a sudden my controller was snatched out of my hands and thrown across the sitting area, on another couch. I gasped widening my eyes, while Roop cheered for Rishab. He crossed the finish line and won the race, oblivious to how and why he actually won.
"How dare y—"
"Yay!" Rishab shrieked beside me, cutting me off. I shook my head when he laughed and hugged me.
"Khush?" I asked him as I pulled him on my lap. He nodded, grinning, and I looked at Roop behind him, who was smiling at us.
"You know I am good," Rishab said, still nodding at me, and I laughed at his cuteness.
"Feels better doesn't it?" Roop asked, raising an eyebrow at me. I smiled, looking down at Rishab, and nodded.
There were times when I used to play with Manik, race him like he was the same age as me. I never acted maturely enough to realise he is just a kid.
Aaj Woh yaad kyun aa raha hai? I asked myself, blinking my eyes, and sighed.
"Chalo, it's finally time to eat something!" Roop announced and Rishab jumped off my lap. He ran outside, still holding the controller, and I smiled, seeing his retreating figure.
"Come fast," Roop patted on my shoulder as she stood up and I hurriedly held her wrist. "Oh hello, you wanted to clean the marks na, ab karo!"
She frowned at me before making a face, "help yourself. Face hi Toh rehta hai!"
I stood up, "acha? You gotta pay for what you did. Clean it now."
I stared at her, trying to act serious but, that didn't work. She flipped her hair and walked past me, "jao nahi karti."
Attitude queen!
I walked faster than her and reached the door first, closing it before she could walk out. She gasped, suddenly stepping back. I took a few steps towards her, blocking her between myself and the wall. She didn't dare to look at me so I placed my index finger under her chin, and titled her head upwards, making her look at me.
"I'll make you regret it," I told her in a whisper, softly blowing on her face. She widened her eyes slightly and gulped, making me smirk internally.
"Then make me," she replied to my surprise. I raised my eyebrow, impressed, as my thumb caressed her cheek. She shivered slightly, and this time I smirked at her.
Going near her ear, I whispered, "Trust me you don't want me to," as I ran my other hand down her arm. I could feel her shaking.
"What's the worst you can do anyway? Act all grumpy again? Then Bring it on, I don't care.... Adat hai Mujhe," she whispered, huskily, gently rubbing her cheek against my stubble, "and don't try that on me again... You are the last person I'd ever be scared of."
She left a peck on my cheek before moving away, giggling. Hearing her voice, I gave up, and joined in, dropping my head on her shoulder. Soft vibrations caused my her giggles, made me pull away and I looked up at her face. She had a bright smile on her lips with her head leaning against the wall; looking so care free and innocent.
"You are a bad actor, Waqas!" She said between her giggles, "zabardasti karoge? Bolo na, Kya karne wale the?"
"Whatever," I scowled at her, scratching my head, and waited for her to calm down. Her hands were on my shoulders now, holding me close, and I just..... Didn't feel like stepping away.
At least I didn't want to be the first one to do so.
"Are we going to stand like this the whole day now?" She asked me after a couple of seconds, her eyes staring at the space between us.
"Maybe," I shrugged, not moving.
"Rishab's alone outside," she reminded me, trying to make me move away, and I shrugged again. "I know."
She took a deep breath and I pressed my lips together, noticing her nervousness. "Go," I stepped away, giving her some space and She ran like she was in a marathon.
Pagal.
ROOP's POV
Breakfast, lunch, or whatever you may call it, went well. Rishab threw tantrums while eating his mashed potatoes but I guess the ice cream bribe worked on him. It was half past four and we were sitting in the colony's compound where there were swings for little kids.
Waqas gave Rishab's swing a slight push before joining me on the footpath, for a walk. The area was quiet with only a couple of kids playing, and I liked the soothing silence. Just peaceful moments with someone, who had a freakishly cute smile on his lips, right beside me.
"Tumhe sach main darr nahi lagta?" Waqas asked me, breaking the silence. I chuckled, shaking my head, "darr lagta Toh Kya shadi karti?"
I fisted my hands and pointed them at him, "waise bhi Mujhe karate aata hai."
He raised his eyebrows at me before shaking his head, "Chal jhoothi!"
"Arey sach main!" I gasped, convincing him, "I have a black belt too!"
"Fashion designer, black belt in Karate.... Aur kya kya ata hai? Feels like there is so much I don't know about you," he frowned at the floor and I nodded, agreeing.
"Baba always treated Raaniya api and me like Tahir Bhai when we were young but she was a girly girl while I always wanted what Bhai had, thus those Karate lessons, rollerskating, studying abroad.... But now I have lost touch," I told him.
"I wouldn't have believed you if you told me this the first time we met.... you were like a ... Umm.. A bheegi billi, I would say," he commented, making me gasp, "I thought I was marrying the most boring person alive. But—"
"I was bullied as a teen so I sort of..." I trailed off sighing, "certain things change you .. For good or for bad. Now I am more shy than I used to be... At least around strangers because People judge and that scares me."
Waqas nodded beside me as we came near Rishab's swing again. I went forward to give him a push and he laughed.
"You like kids?" Waqas asked me, making me chuckle. "What do you think?"
"I'll take that as a yes!" He smiled as we started walking again. "Do you?" I asked him curiously. Even though I know he does, I needed to keep the conversation going.
"When I was little, I wanted sons...... So I could pamper them with video games my parents refused to buy for me," he laughed, confessing, and I fought the urge to pull his cheek, "but then Shayyan came along and then Manik and Rishab ...... And ugh!" He shook his head, making me frown.
"So you don't want kids now?" I asked him. He glanced at me for a brief second, "I'd prefer daughters, they are less demanding."
"Oh, who said so?" I chocked out, laughing, "kapro Se Le kar toys tak, jewellery Se Le kar makeup tak, Bohot nakhre hote Hein hamaare!"
"Oh please, so far I find Seher the most calm one of all!" He said, making me raise an eyebrow. "Acha? Kitne bacho Ka bachpan dekha hai aapne. Khud ke honge na tab Pata chalega kaun zada demanding hai!"
I bit my tongue instantly, looking away, realising what I was blabbering.
"Yeah, we will see, I already have the names in mind too," seeing him talking so casually, I smiled up at him.
"Names... Really? Mujhe bhi batayein!" I shook his arm, curiously, and he nodded his head no.
"Waqas please na!" I winced, begging him but he kept refusing. "Jab honge tab baataunga."
"You know curiosity kills the cat!" I muttered, annoyed.
"First of, you are not a cat and secondly, I am not letting you die," he pointed out on his fingers, making me blush. "Acha my superman, but please tell me!" I asked him again, tugging on to his arm.
"Kaha na, jab honge tab," he spoke sternly like Abhi ke Abhi law pass karwaenge.
"Kab honge yeh bache," I groaned, not realising, yet again, and instantly a smirk popped up on his lips.
"Jab tum chaho!"
Yeah, like I am the one taking my sweet time here, right?
"Roop!" Rishab called me, pulling me out of the embarrassing situation.
"Oye, girlfriend lagti hai Teri?" Waqas asked him instead, making me giggle, "chachi hai langoor!"
"Aayi!" I yelled out to Rishab as I walked past Waqas. "Bolo Ji?" I asked Rishab, kneeling down in front of him.
"I want to go on that one!" He pointed at the slide, batting his big eyelashes at me, and I pulled him out of the swing. He wriggled in my arms as I carried him there, and kept him down near the ladder. He climbed the first one and struggled with the rest; they were too high and slippery for him so, I picked him up and helped him to get on the top so he could slide down the diagonal metal bar.
"Yay!" I cheered, clapping for him, as Waqas joined us. He purposely laid on the slide to annoy Rishab, who started crying seeing him there.
"Waqas bad boy," I mockingly slapped Waqas on his back when he tried consoling Rishab who was hugging me tightly. "Dur hato!"
"Dur!" Rishab repeated after me and I pressed my lips together, trying not to laugh.
"Rishab is a good boy na? Please, rote Nahi," I tried calming him down as I rocked him in my arms.
"Oh aise chup Nahi hona isne, give him to me!" In one swift move, Waqas snatched him from me, tossing him up in the air slightly.
"Sovy Rishab," I frowned seeing Waqas pouting at Rishab; He made a sad face like he would cry any second. Rishab yawned, still scowling at him. "bad boy," he told Waqas before hugging him.
I chuckled at the two, wondering how Waqas would behave around his own kids. Like a total kid or maturely like he does when I act crazy around him? I'd love to see that side of him soon.
"He is sleeping already," Waqas' voice snapped me out of my thoughts and I frowned, seeing Rishab sleeping with his head on Waqas' shoulder.
"He was tired after all the fun; no wonder he cried for such a small reason," I sighed, running my hand through Rishab's soft curls.
"Let's go upstairs and tuck him in the bed," Waqas suggested and I nodded, with still one question stuck in my head.
"You still find me boring?" I couldn't stop myself from asking. Waqas stopped and frowned at me.
I looked down at the pavement, regretting. I didn't want him to answer that. I'd rather assume that I am not as bad than him telling me that I am boring.
My eyes widened slightly as I looked up at him when his fingers slipped between mine, holding my hand tightly. He started walking again, dragging me along with him, and didn't answer my questions.
But this small gesture was enough for me.
