Mobius at its finest day and in the finest in the warm days of spring. Words could not describe how much of a nice day it was. It was early noon, meaning it had been around lunchtime.
Sonic Speed had been running around the city in need of errands to help fuel his "good-a-tude" for the people he cared immensely about. You would see him here one second and gone in the next few. Some thought today was an important day for the Blue Blur, seeming as he was running around quite fast.
He took a stop nearby a chili dog stand before making a quick order. Upon closer inspection, his blue matted hair was pulled back, per usual. Although he wasn't wearing his usual casual attire, as it appeared he was sporting a delivery outfit of the sort. The only part of him that kept his trademark was his footwear, which was red and white sneakers with golden buckles.
The tall peachy male took a bite out of the chili dog he had instantly received, sending a small but grateful "thank you" to the tender of the stand (to who had gotten a speedy tip for his quick craft). Soon after, Sonic sped off to go back to doing who knows what.
With the satchel hanging from the male's shoulder, it soon fell with the current of the breeze due to his tremendous fast speed.
Of what he wasn't aware that a female named [Y/N] was on the sidelines going on about her day until she noticed the fast boy drop the item. Instantly, her reflex was to head over to where he had dropped it, making sure to pay attention to where the boy had literally sped off to in a general direction.
She picked up the brown bag and slung it over her own shoulder before taking off at an average pace. She had to admit, he was definitely faster than anyone else she had ever seen, considering she had to sprint to be able to just keep sight of him.
The poor [s/c] girl took a moment to process her breathing before catching the boy stopped at an apartment building. Sonic's hands subconsciously went down to reach inside the bag he once had. Though his face seemed to change into one of panic as soon as he realized he had lost it. "Oh no no no no! Ugh, come on! Where did I drop the stupid thing this time?...," he muttered to himself, trying to keep his cool. It didn't help much though when he raked his fingers from the palm of his hand into his azure-colored hair before roughly tugging on it in slight stress.
He began tapping his foot against the hard gray concrete he had been standing on outside the resident building. It was a form of stress relief for him to exert any emotions he had whenever he was either impatient or worried about something. In this case, it may have been both considering it looked like he was antsy about losing the item.
[Y/N] took this chance and instantly ran over to the boy, still panting heavily from how much energy she used just to catch up with him. She thought she may have even begun to wheeze from pure exhaustion.
"H-Hey! Did y-you drop this?," [Y/N] asked, speaking in between heavy breaths. Once Sonic heard the girl's voice, he turned around and lit up like how a kid would when they were inside a toy store. "Oh jeez, thanks! I shouldn't be too careless about how fast I'm going," the male said, sweat dropping as the realization took in about his own words. He kept a mental note to himself about that. That would be considered the second time this month he dropped something without realizing it. At least someone returned the item and didn't steal it this time. His boss would get quite upset with him again if a repeat of last time were to happen. His pondering made him chuckle in nervousness at the thought.
Snapping back to reality, he nearly forgot the girl in front of him. "Oh! And are you alright? You look out of breath there-," he asked her. She nodded her head as she gave a thumbs up. Though it wasn't convincing considering the poor girl had her hands on her knees from how heavy she was breathing. He gave her a "seriously?" look, you know the kind to give off that someone doesn't believe you. "No seriously".
After a minute or two, she gained her normal breathing again. It was kind of awkward considering Sonic had waited on her to talk with her voice rather than giving him actions. Sure, he may not be the most patient guy in the world but he honestly didn't mind how long it took considering this girl did him a huge favor. He seriously did NOT want to risk an alternate outcome where he tells his employer that he lost another delivery.
The tension was a bit thick since that moment. It could literally be cut with a knife. So he decided to start a conversation. After all, he had done twice more deliveries today so he could get a break and settle in for the rest of the day. It was fair, he thought.
"So uhm, after this final delivery I have to make, do you want me to take you to a coffee shop or something?" he seemed to ask casually. [Y/N]'s head tilted a bit in confusion. She honestly didn't understand what he was asking of her as she may have been a bit dense about it. The male groaned mentally at her confusion.
He let it slide out of thought before asking her again, though this time with much more casual confidence he always seemed to have. "Do you want to hang with me to get some coffee after this?" he asked a final time.
Almost as if he translated what his previous words were, [Y/N] finally understood. "Oh uhm! Sure! I honestly had been doing some errands for myself today as well, so I think it's fair," she merely replied. He gave a small nod before ringing one of the buttons on the apartment complex. As he was let inside, [Y/N] waited outside for him, as to respect not going somewhere where she had no business. Plus, she didn't mind it too much seeing as she had already witnessed the Blue Blur's speed.
Within a minute or two, he returned in all his glory. "So, how about Starrings? I hear their coffee is pretty good, especially in the afternoon". [Y/N] gave him a small but considerate nod. Sonic gave a smug smile before picking up the female in a bridal position, to which she squeaked. "It's fine, I ain't gonna hurt you. Just hang on tight, this is going to be fast."
She hummed and seemed to relax against his touch. He was surprisingly gentle. It's like he had been carrying girls all his life. [Y/N] felt a bit irked at the thought but shook it off. Probably a girl thing she's just now been exposed to.
When she was in her thoughts, she wasn't aware Sonic had given her another precaution that he wasn't joking when he said she should hang onto something. At that moment, he sped off as fast as you could see light...literally.
"OH MY-," she blurted out, wrapping her arms around his neck tighter than they could have been. She ended up receiving a chuckle from the boy. "I told ya!" he momentarily said, continuing to run with the tense and alarmed girl in his arms.
Sure enough, they arrived at their destined location.
Sonic leans a bit so [Y/N] could slip out of his arms while getting onto the ground safely, of which she does after having some help not stumbling backward. She was a bit dizzy from the speed after all.
"You all good? Do you want me to get you to sit down?" Sonic asked about it jokingly, though hints of concern laced in his tone. Truly deep down, it was part of his nature, but seeing as she felt different to him, he instantly wanted to make sure she was okay.
[Y/N] brushed her [h/c] locks behind her ear and tried readjusting the bird's nest that had formed after the eventful ride. Sonic gave a smug smirk at her, to which she did not find amusing, but that made Sonic's smirk become even bigger.
Actions spoke louder than words from this moment. It's like they didn't even need to talk. Though that was broken when [Y/N] couldn't remain serious anymore, starting to laugh. Sonic gladly followed along before helping her with her hair, getting it to be presentable.
"I mean, I did give a fair warning ya know. Though I'm sorry, I should have been more reasonable," Sonic gave his apology, to which he received a hug from the girl in return. He was honestly stunned at the gesture but eventually hugged back eventually. Though before it could get silent and give the two a moment to comprehend what happened, [Y/N] spoke up. "You're completely fine...now let's go get our coffee, dork!".
Sonic was forced to let go of the girl as she ran to the stand that was outside the main building. They usually did outside servings as well, which was super interesting to see. At least in her opinion.
He instantly caught up after stopping his train of thought for some time, asking what [Y/N] wanted and getting in his order as well. Luckily, they didn't have to wait too long, seeing as they have gotten their coffee within minutes. Sonic's drink was something super sugary, which is to be expected. He never liked black coffee or anything incredibly 'healthy' as he would like to put it. [Y/N] found this out after they decided to sit at a table at the nearby beach.
The two exchanged stories about each other, like how you would tell a friend you haven't seen in years. They felt instantly comfortable with each other.
The sun was finally beginning to set. It definitely caught [Y/N]'s attention the moment orange and pink hues landed on surfaces of various parts on the beach.
"This was incredibly fun, maybe even funnier than the time I had to go on this mission. We should hang out moreee,....?," he trailed the end, suggesting that he didn't know her name and insisted on her saying it. Now that she was thinking about it, [Y/N] pointed it out.
"Now that you mention it, I never got your name since we met earlier," [Y/N] answered.
"I guess we were having too much fun we forgot to," Sonic said, chuckling to himself, which earned a laugh from the girl across him at the table.
"Well, then let's properly introduce each other then. My name is [Y/N], a young adult just trying to get by in life," she said, laughing at her own words. Honestly, something in Sonic sparked due to her laughter.
"Name's Sonic to ya, just living life while he can before I do settle down for a life," he replied shortly. Though he continued on speaking as there was a bit of silence.
"Well, [Y/N], it was an absolute pleasure to get to meet an awesome gal like you," he said, handing over the nice folded piece of paper that he was writing on moments ago. "See ya around, [Y/N]!" he managed to say, dashing off in a blast before giving the girl a chance to respond.
[Y/N] blinked a couple of times in disbelief, trying to process what happened.
She looked down at the piece of paper he had left behind, not realizing her face began to heat up at the sight of what was written on it. It had his phone number, along with a note.
She had the biggest smile she had ever gotten in her life.
"If you need anything or wanna ever hang out again, feel free to call me!"

Honestly, I enjoyed writing this one out
It's not your typical love at first sight romance kinda thing but it has fluff lol
But I always love writing out the charm of Sonic because his character is fun to play around with when it comes to writing him
He can either be a jock or super sweet guy
Meanwhile I don't crush on him or anyone from the actual franchise (hell, never even shipped my OCs with any of them), Sonic has always had a soft spot in my heart for his goofiness and carefree behavior
Starrings is meant to be my version of Starbucks inside of the Sonic universe by the way (because, ya know, red star rings-)
Anyways, enough of my blabbing
Hope you guys liked this one! <3
