c!Wilbur x F! Reader
Fandom: MCYT [DSMP]
Requested?: No
One-Shot Type: A romantic relationship
Details: Reader is female, as I said I would choose default. This setting does not stick to canon and may be altered to the true canon. The POV is from the third/second-person.
Word Count: [3,590] | not excluding this portion of information.
WARNING: Deals with many depressing topics such as loss of loved ones
This one shot in particular is a VERY long one. Wilbur is admittedly my comfort streamer so I think he deserves a lot of love when it comes to writing. He always brightens my day when I watch him or listen to his songs. His lore in DSMP is very significant for me because it's honestly sad to see. I hope you get what I mean.
Also help this is formatted differently cuz I'm too lazy too reformat it to Wattpad L.

-:| BITTERSWEET LOVE |:-
Words cannot amount to how many things were going on in your head right now.
Here you are, [Y/N] [L/N], standing before this young gentleman.
Who was this young gentleman you ask?
Wilbur Soot. The Wilbur Soot.
And what was making your thoughts go wild right now?
Many things.
And love was one of them.
In which was confessed whereafter the fact that this rather dapper gentleman was now current kissing you.
Yes. Kissing.
...
Love had multiple meanings. But this situation could only describe one.
LOVE[ləv]Nounan intense feeling of deep affection.
Ah yes, love.
How did you get yourself into this situation? Let us rewind back a couple of weeks, shall we?
----------------------------
This was the day you'd be meeting the one and only Wilbur Soot. You had met him a fair share of days before the war within L'Manburg.
Wilbur was known to be a very cautious and secured lad within the land. Many would say he was the best leader around. His deeds were seen as grateful and he wanted to lead the nation into one of an unforgettable legacy.
However, that all came to an end.
The day of reckoning had begun, in which he had to blow up L'Manburg in turn of the end. He did it for them. He did it for his people.
He did it for himself.
One would not think this is how it would end. But Wilbur thought it must happen.
In the end, he was persuaded into blowing up the nation he once called home. The Blade did that very thing.
Wilbur, at the cost of war, had died as he couldn't handle the pain and misery that was brought onto his land--his nation.
So that is when he asked for his own father figure right there and then to kill him.
Philza couldn't do it. But seeing as how much his child had suffered so much, he thought it was best to end his suffering.
All it did was cause more chaos upon the chaos that erupted.
After Wilbur had exploded the nation, Technoblade took it upon himself to unleash multiple Withers, a creature that was known to destroy anything in its path once awoken.
L'Manburg had suffered so much withdrawal that day.
There she was, [Y/N] [L/N] standing nearby to witness her lover die at the hands of his own father, along with everyone else who had watched. She understood the reasoning a bit as she saw the poor man's pain just by his facial expression.
But the fact that her feelings would never be reincorporated tugged at her heart and hurt her soul.
Days after seeing the man who gave her joyous days of laughter and peace. He was now gone.
While she was aware of how canon lives worked in this universe, it still hurt her knowing what those consequences were at the cost of losing just one. You would lose memories of your past, or even forget who you even are. At the cost of war, he lost his life.
[Y/N] after those days...
She became unwell.
The others noticed immensely once after the war had been over, leaving them to clean up the mess of the nation that was in shambles and rubble.
Not only did the war end in ruin, but it ended in emotional damage.
And [Y/N] was one of the few who suffered heavily from it.
After Wilbur's death, she couldn't bring herself to come out of her home anymore. She couldn't.
He was her best friend after all.
Fundy, Wilbur's supposed son, came to comfort her in her time of need. He would tell the others how she was doing. And he had to admit, it wasn't too well. She cried so many nights to the point where he would stay with her. "F-Fundy...I don't war to be brought upon like this again...it h-hurts...," she confessed through sobs, the smaller lad with his arms wrapped around the female, holding her tight.
If he had to admit, it was like a family gathering. He considered her a mother with how much care she put into everyone and everything. She had the comfort of a mother who would calm a child down who was upset. At least, that's what Fundy had thought. In this case, it was now him that was the one who was tending to her needs of comfort. He had never seen someone so kind constantly break down just at the thought of her late lover.
He honestly wished he could do something. He loved her a lot to see her cry.
But he felt powerless to do so, as it was not in his power.
He wished Wilbur hadn't died.
Because if anything, he was feeling as much pain as [Y/N] did at that moment. Despite the fact his position in the war, Wilbur was still his father. He loved Wilbur as much as he loved [Y/N].
Too bad he wouldn't get to tell her that Wilbur had felt the same about her. It wasn't in his right to do so. Plus, it wasn't right for him to say in that very moment.
He had informed them that she became too malnourished herself and she was somewhat going insane. She mentioned to Fundy how she would see Wilbur outside her window, tending to the sheep that she used to keep and reserve so she could share wool with everyone as a "thank you" for letting her join the nation as a citizen.
How the irony of that reference came to be in the future.
Everyone was solemn about what happened. Not just because it impacted many of the lives living there, but as well the girl who was closest to him.
They came to mourn for her.
Skipping ahead, Wilbur came back.
But not as his normal self.
That's when Ghostbur was born.
When he appeared again as Ghostbur, [Y/N] broke down into tears immediately.
He smiled so much when he first saw her again.
Unfortunately, Wilbur had forgotten her and what he wanted to say to her after he had promised that he would win the war.
That day never came.
When Fundy had known about this, it almost made him cry again. It was like patching up their broken family was possible again.
Wilbur explained himself and how Limbo existed, [Y/N] didn't care about it. As long as Wilbur was back, she was happy. She even called him by his name, but then Ghostbur became confused again. "Wilbur? Do you mean Alivebur?," he seemed to correct her, making her face seem to heat up a tad bit.
Ghostbur once more was more confused at how her face became red. Was it something he said? He'll never know until it's explained to him, as this version of himself was too pure for that kind of thing to understand naturally.
"Y-Yeah. Sorry, Ghostbur. I don't mean to offend you," she retorted back to him, apologizing genuinely.
Though Wilbur did not know why exactly, he felt something inside him warm up much more than he ever had. He had no clue what the feeling was.
But he liked it. He liked it a lot.
When [Y/N] would draw away for even a minute, Ghostbur became confused as to why he felt these mixed emotions. Most of the time, he was joyful, sharing his 'blue' with everyone while Friend, his blue sheep, followed him around.
When others asked about it, Ghostbur had simply said that he had found him and named him Friend. And tons of people saw the reference, feeling quite awkward around once it was said.
[Y/N] actually had a sheep among her collection named Friend who she dyed blue. Along with Friend, she had another sheep named Family that was pink, which was quite rare to have.
Wilbur had owned Friend while [Y/N] owned Family.
[Y/N] unfortunately had to witness those happy memories once he explained it to her. Everyone else felt bad for the girl was reminiscing about the past. But while they thought it may have been a depressing thought, it actually made her cry in joyful tears.
Chostbur noticed this and gave plenty of blue. She took it gratefully, thinking of it as comforting.
However, she never threw nor tossed it away into the waters of L'Manburg.
Because she became attached to it as it reminded her of so much.
Ghostbur being Ghostbur, of course, asked her. "[Y/N], why did you not toss away the blue? It would help you feel better and all your sadness would go away!," he said cheerfully, maybe a bit more than he should have sounded.
She only gave him a simple but meaningful response.
"Because it reminds me so much of someone I used to know and loved. If anything, I'm happy more than sad, Ghostbur...".
It was a good minute of silence the rest of the afternoon he had talked to her, per usual. The silence wasn't awkward, nor was it crazy. It was just peaceful.
Just like how it used to be with the two together.
----------------------------
She had asked Ghostbur to come to her house one day, to which he gratefully said yes to do. I mean, what else would a ghost have to do other than go around talking?
He had met the female at her remodeled house that was destroyed in the process of the war, but nothing too critical like her valuables since she kept them on a lower level in a basement.
At the moment they walked in, Ghostbur noticed the colors of the new home as she asked him to sit down in the chair across from her with a small table. [Y/N] never got anything too fancy since she was more traditionalized when it came to the home. So she settled for essentials rather than anything extra. But Wilbur always thought she should have got more than that, as he said she deserved more than what she got.
The memory made her smile.
Ghostbur complimented the hints of blue and pink that were littered around the home, referencing when he was Alivebur. Turns out that Family was saved and she used all the blue that was given to her from Ghostbur. She thought to use it for something meaningful, somewhere where she and Wilbur had always been together at.
If only she had told him sooner...
The female's thoughts were interrupted when Ghostbur poked his finger at the sweater she was wearing. It made her jolt in surprise, but she could see why he did what he did.
It was the sweater he had given her before he died.
It was a similar one to the one Ghostbur was wearing, as it was the one Wilbur had always worn everywhere. The thought of her remembering it made tears prick at her eyes.
But before she could, Ghostbur took her face in his hands. He wasn't holding Friend's lead anymore, seeing as it was now tied to a part of the chair she was sitting on.
"[Y/N], why are you crying? Have some blue!," he said, taking a moment to shear Friend's fluff a bit before handing her a pile of blue wool. Friend's wool was always soft, she had to admit that. She played with it in her hands before her eyes found their way to Ghostbur's.
Silence.
Nothing but Friend's sheep sounds.
It was a bittersweet silence.
But it was comforting.
Then at that moment, Ghostbur squeezed her cheeks.
"What are you doing?"
"You look cute with your face squished up"
...
[Y/N] burst out in giggles and laughter, which Ghostbur followed along as it was contagious.
Wilbur was always contagious of [Y/N]'s laughter in some way or another.
For the rest of the afternoon, [Y/N] told him stories about herself, which actually helped him remember what she was like. He was once more close with her, and [Y/N] wouldn't do anything to change that.
They then went over to Phil's house to go see him, as he was under house arrest at the time. Phil being Phil, he activated "Dadza" mode and kept telling Ghostbur to stop touching the rain.
"I'm gonna touch the rain"
"Don't do it"
Psstt.
"I told you not to touch it"
Psstt.
"You'll melt!"
Psstt.
"STOP TOUCHING THE RAIN"
[Y/N] was laughing to herself as she sat beside Phil. She considered him a father figure and could see why Wilbur always loved being with him.
It's like nothing changed.
Ghostbur eventually stopped before he sat down beside the two, being closer to [Y/N], admiring the peaceful pouring.
In this case, Phil being a father knew the two had feelings for each other. It's like how a parent has that instinct to identify any feelings of love for another person. Hell, Wilbur even told him about he should approach [Y/N] about it. Phil thought his son was a little crazy with the position he was in at the time. But he was happy to know it was such a kind and caring person who he loved.
[Y/N] eventually told him at one point too, seeing as she saw him being her only source for love advice. He was a married man who had a wife after all (even though everyone else thought he was mad considering no one ever sees her). But she disregarded that fact as she knew he wouldn't make fun of her but rather help her.
Phil gave the two advice which was the same thing; be yourself.
In which they did, and helped them get closer. Though that washed down the drain as soon as his son died. Phil was impacted by the incident as well, but he knew he wouldn't be the one suffering heavily from it.
----------------------------
Sometime later in the weeks, Ghostbur had gone to do the "ritual".
He left Friend with [Y/N] along with the rest of the sheep she managed to gather again.
She made sure to keep Friend and Family in a separate pen so they can get peace. Turns out they liked each other a lot when Friend was first introduced to Family.
While [Y/N] thought it was heartwarming, Ghostbur felt at peace just seeing this. He grew attached to [Y/N]'s home instantly. It was like he was meant to be there, with her.
Here almost everyone was.
Tommy had promised him that he would be okay.
"TOMMY, YOU SAID I'D BE OKAY!," the cries of Ghostbur came through, him disappearing in pain.
Here [Y/N] was.
She was getting deja vu.
And she hated it so much.
Why did they keep her away from something so awful?!
After everything she worked for, it was going to waste.
"Phil, I don't wanna go!," his gaze darted to Phil, who seemed to be having a moment to himself. He knew it was happening again. This time he shut himself off for the sake of [Y/N]. He didn't want to give the fact to her that it was happening again.
Ghostbur felt hurt, betrayed, in ruin.
All he could hope for is that [Y/N] would listen to him.
It took her no time to run to Ghostbur, who was crying.
He instantly caught sight of [Y/N], just barely grabbing onto her like how a child just found its mother after being lost.
"[Y-Y/N]...I don't wanna go...," he said, unleashing all his kept potential emotions. [Y/N] cried her heart out as she hugged him as he was slowly fading away.
"G-Ghostbur...I promise...I will see you again...," she said with false hope. At this rate, she lost it.
She completely lost it.
Unknowingly, the two's hands intertwined while they cried.
But everyone else saw.
And everyone instantly felt hurt and experienced the pain not only Ghostbur felt, but [Y/N] as well.
"It's going to be okay, Ghostbur...," she soothed him, which she succeeded in.
He grew quiet for a moment, his tears still flowing freely down his ghostly face.
The two locked glossy eyes.
"[Y/N]...I want to tell you something, s-something I wanted to say a long time ago-," before he could finish, he started fading completely. "I-I wanted to say that I-," he didn't finish.
He disappeared before he could.
The air grew tense, and it filled with so much tense air it could cut the oxygen supply.
"Ghostbur!," she cried, bending down to the ground and pounding it with her fist. Tears pooled out of her sockets. "Dammit, all! Not again! Why?!".
Everyone who had witnessed what had happened before they spotted a glance of a light that shone a bit before it returned to normal.
There was Wilbur.
Many shocked gasps erupted before Phil took an arm to [Y/N], who yanked her arm back before continuing to cry.
Though before she could swear out in vain, the presumed Wilbur placed a hand on top of the female's head, comforting her slightly.
[Y/N] looked up slowly to see the man she fell in love with, now white streak in his hair and a change of attire.
This was a total change.
Before she could get up and say anything, she received a smug grin and a few words, signaling it was Wilbur's voice.
"Did ya miss me?"
----------------------------
Revivebur was his name. [Y/N] thought it was one of Wilbur's alternate versions, especially with the whole Ghostbur thing. That, she won't forget.
Turns out Revivebur was much different than Wilbur. He became a bit chaotic and started telling you so many things he wanted to do. He began spitting things like how Limbo was and how he loved being free again from that awful train station.
He grew to hate train stations at this point.
He started saying how he was now free and alive and something about having survived. He said he was better than ever with him now being out of that hell.
While [Y/N] had to admit this was such a significant change, she couldn't help but grow attached naturally.
Guess it was a common theme at that point.
Once again, she reminded him of memories.
Rinse and repeat of what [Y/N] told Ghostbur.
Then again, Revivebur grew close to her.
Despite his now tainted and vengeful heart, he still had some love in there.
It showed he wasn't completely lost and alone like he was back in Limbo.
And he realized just how much [Y/N] meant to him...
----------------------------
Coming back to the present, it took you a good minute to realize how much you've gone through with all iterations of Wilbur alone.
You were literally in love with an enemy at this point. A rebel.
It didn't matter to you. You loved this man with your heart and soul.
You could not afford to lose him again.
Not like this.
Not evermore.
You knew of Revivebur's intentions once he came, and you had to admit, he was god damn sexy at it. It drove you away from what he was like before. But no matter the Wilbur, no matter the time, no matter the place...
You will still love him.
Even if it was bittersweet now, all you needed was him.
And all your fears and worries would go away.
"I always loved you, [Y/N]. Even if I'm different now, I rather let it be said before I disappear again...," he stopped himself, taking in everything he learned from Ghostbur and his past memories.
With a bit of weakness and shaky breath, he continued on.
"...I will never do that again, darling, even if I have to kill to get to be with you again".
------------------------------------------------------------
PHEW. My heart and soul honestly stings at the whole story with Wilbur's lore. It's genuinely sad and relatable for me. Imagine losing someone you value dearly just to have them keep being taken away from you. And it doesn't even have to be one person. For me, it's been multiple, so this was a bit of my own comfort writing with my own heart and soul put into it.
Please consider taking time with family and loved ones once in a while. As this writing suggests, it's meant to teach a lesson. Please say something to them before you don't get the chance to. I hope you've learned a bit from reading this, as it was also meant to be educational.
Note that the pink sheep called "Family" is actually my comfort Minecraft pet OC. She just goes by a different name and thought this term would better reflect the contrast to the story! <3
