𝐖𝐄𝐈𝐑𝐃 𝐌𝐀𝐘
All we gotta do is be brave and kind
DAISY stood to the side of the director as he stood in front of reporters and anyone else that had showed up. she looked around nervously as he spoke.
"No, a true hero's not in it for the glory. Some seek out justice in the face of danger even if it means living life in the shadows. But I'm proud to announce that Daisy Johnson... One of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s most dedicated agents... Can finally step into the spotlight and get the recognition she deserves." He looked to Daisy smiling and clapping his hands. She sent him a small, forced smiled and looked out into the crowd, seeing everyone else clapping, as well.
"During her time undercover, she risked her life to protect everyday citizens." Mace paused. "When Watchdogs targeted the Edison Bridge, Agent Johnson held off the collapse until everyone was evacuated. Now, she fled to protect her cover, but today, we finally get to say... thank you." he looked at Daisy and clapped, everyone else following. "Right now, I would like to invite Sunbury's own Michelle Caldwell up to tell the story in her own words."
Everyone cheered as Michelle walked up to the stand to speak. "Thank you, Director Mace." She smiled at Mace. "It's hard to remember details from that night, but three things stand out clearly... fire, falling... and Agent Johnson saving my life."
Daisy zoned out on what she was saying when she saw Coulson and Mack out in the crowd. But, soon, she was pulled out of her own world when she was pulled in for a hug by Michelle. She awkwardly hugged her back, forcing, yet, another smile.
Daisy looked over her shoulder back at Coulson and Mack who were looking up at a roof. She followed their eyesight to see a piece of a sniper pointing out from behind a sign.
"Sniper!" She shouted, pushing Michelle behind a pillar. She watched as Mace picked up the stand as a shield and it was shot by the sniper. It then sparked.
"Stand clear!" Mace shouted as he threw it up into the air, and it exploded.
Everyone shouted and ran around.
"I got eyes on the shooter," Daisy informed Mace and ran off, bumping into someone as she did so.
She looked up at the building and held her hands towards the ground, sending a powerful shock wave that sent her into the sky and up onto the roof of the building the sniper was trying to escape on.
She landed on his back, sending him down. She stood up and was about to punch him when she saw the Zephyr take off.
DAISY held the snipers file in her hands as she stood near where he sat. "Yuri Zaikin. Russian national. Ex-KGB. Ex-Hydra. S.H.I.E.L.D. thought you died in the battle over the Fridge." She sat the file down and stared him down, crossing her arms. "Well, it's too bad you didn't." He just looked up at her, unimpressed. "You killed a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, tried to kill the Director with exploding bullets. They don't sell those at Walmart... yet."
He licked his lips, looking at her as if she was crazy as she continued, "Who's your supplier?" He still didn't say anything. "You just don't shut up, do you?" She exaggerated before rolling her eyes. She picked up the file and walked away, meeting up with May. "You've got an angle here?"
She nodded her head. "When they don't talk, usually means they have someone to protect."
Daisy tilted her head. "So, he's just a lackey."
"Probably why there wasn't an extraction plan," May told her, whispering.
"Send in the dumb guy they can afford to lose," Daisy said, nodding.
"No wonder he failed," May noted, nodding.
"We didn't fail." They abruptly turned to Zaikin who finally said something, "Phase One only ever had a 13% chance of success."
DAISY urgently followed after May, her shoulder length brown hair swishing side to side as she did so. "How do you lose a damn Quinjet?"
May tilted her head as we approached Jemma. "Simmons, tell me they're alive."
"I don't know," Jemma stated, sighing. "We lost contact approximately seven minutes ago."
"Zaikin said he wasn't alone," Daisy said, clenching her jaw. "This must be Phase Two."
Jemma turned to best friend, "Then we may need more than the standard rescue team." She then turned to General Talbot. "General, have we made contact?"
"They just dropped off the map... No signal, no emergency beacon, nothing," He informed them, looking at the large screen on the wall.
"It could be an equipment malfunction," Daisy said, placing her hands on her hips, hoping for the best.
"When have we ever been that lucky?" Talbot rhetorically asked her, most likely rolling his eyes at her. He turned around and faced them, "If we want our team back, we're gonna have to act fast."
"Daisy and I can take point on the rescue mission," May spoke up. "Coulson would want me to take command of Zephyr One." She looked to Jemma. "Simmons, I need expanded clearance to do that."
Jemma nodded and went to reach for the tablet but Talbot beat her to it. "I'll take care of that," he mumbled. "I'll make you... DayGlo pink, or whatever's high enough."
"If we find them, they won't be alone," Daisy stated, raising an eyebrow. "Zaikin had partners."
Jemma stood tall. "I'm the highest-ranking agent here, and contingency protocols grant me greater access if the Director is missing in action."
Talbot stared down at her. "I know that. I wrote the damn protocols. Besides, I have an assignment for you."
Jemma wasn't having it. "But I could look through Mace's file for any leads. If we've overlooked any enemies he might have—"
Talbot held up his hand. "I'll handle this." He turned back around to face the large screen. "I'm gonna squeeze our prisoner like a lime wedge on dollar beer night." The three of them glanced to eachother. "Now, find me some science-y way to regain contact with our men on the ground," he ordered, waving his hand around.
"But we—" Jemma started, but was cut off.
'Hail to the Chief' ringtone played "You all have jobs to do." He pulled his phone out of his pocket. "If you'll excuse me, I need to update the leader of the free world."
They all left the office, glancing at eachother.
DAISY approached May who was sitting in Lola aka Coulson's precious car. "So, you're allowed to touch Lola?" She questioned in disbelief.
May didn't even look at her, she had on a hard expression, her jaw clenched and her eyes narrowed.
Daisy sighed and opened the passenger door, sitting down in the seat. "Did he ever let you drive her?" She asked, looking over at her, expectantly.
May's lip quirked up slightly. "I have this one image in my head... An early mission of ours. Maybe in Madrid? Coulson had a mustache." Daisy looked at her in surprise, chuckling. "He gave me the keys and told me not to let anyone else know." She looked down.
Daisy looked at her for a second before speaking, "We're gonna find them, you know."
"I know." She nodded. "I just can't shake this feeling. Something's off."
"Off how?" Daisy questioned. "With the mission or between you and...?" She hinted, smirking. "Did I miss something while I was gone?"
"Like what?" May asked, but there was a hint of a smile.
"You know like what." Daisy raised an eyebrow and she smiled, glancing away.
"Agent May!" They abruptly looked to Davis who ran towards them. "We've reached the crash site, but we scanned for 100 square miles and there's no Quinjet. Someone must have hijacked the transponder signal."
"So where the hell are they?" May questioned angrily as they got out of Lola.
A shock-wave pulsed through Daisys body all the way to her finger-tips before she released it into the ground, knocking unknown agents off of their feet.
One man came running towards her, but Daisy easily lifted one of her hands and he went flying back into an old cabin, crashing right into the living room.
She stepped through, her hand still up, and she turned to see Coulson and Mace ducked behind a turned-over table. She smiled before she realized someone was missing from the equation. "Where Mack?"
DAISY walked into the changing room to see May checking out a wound that was on her top half of her back. Daisy winced and stopped walking as she turned to face her. "Hey, you need help with that?"
May started stuttering which was so unlike her but Daisy shrugged it off seeing as she has had a rough day. "Uh, no, it's, uh... It's just a scratch."
Daisy nodded, furrowing her eyebrows. "Um, Coulson's gathering everyone in the Director's office."
She nodded, crossing her arms, looking nerved. "I'll see you in there."
Daisy paused and looked at her in concern. She knew that the woman in front of her was tough and that she can take care of herself, but she still worried. "Are you sure you're okay?"
May nodded. "Never better."
Daisy nodded and turned around, leaving the room, brushing off the weird feeling she got.
