Everything is shattering and It's my mistake
"I don't understand. Why was Lincoln there?" Skye asked Jiaying, trying to keep her anger at bay.
"Because of me." She frowned at the words coming out of the older woman's mouth. "I asked him to go and protect you, to keep you safe. It was a mistake. I should never have let you go at all."
Skys scoffed. "It was the right thing to do." She crossed her arms. "Even if Cal's outbursts scare the living shit, well, not living shit, because if my shit was—" She stopped as she realized she was getting way off topic. "We have to make sure that the Cal that we put out into the world is the same Cal that I've seen here... the safe and user-friendly Cal."
Jiaying touched her arm. "You were trying to make it easy on him. You were being compassionate."
Skye looked her in the eyes, "How do we get Lincoln back?"
"We don't." Skye scoffed and pulled away from her. "It's too much of a risk."
"You don — You don't understand. They will torture him. They will kill him," Skye spat at her, scoffing, and her eyes were narrowed. "What the hell?" The room started shaking as she grew angry. Yes, she could control her powers, but she was in too much anger and disbelief to see reasoning right now. "First you sent him out there to watch over me even though I was perfectly fine with my father. It's your fault he has been taken, and now you're just gonna leave him out to die?" She scoffed and shook her head. "I am so disappointed in you."
Skye stormed away from her before she could get another word in.
"WHAT part of "no" didn't you understand?"
"The part where you won't take me to Lincoln," Skye told Gordon as he tried to walk away from her, but she just followed him.
"I told you, no one enters or leaves Afterlife until we know it's safe," he restated the words he has been telling her for the past half hour.
"It'll be too late by then!" She shouted at him. "And with you are here telling me this shit, it's making his condition worse. S.H.I.E.L.D may be wrong about a lot of things, but they never leave a man behind."
"I'm sorry—"
"Don't give up hope just yet." They turned around to see Raina approaching them. "Skye can save Lincoln. I saw her do it."
"Wh — You've seen it?" Slye asked in disgust as she stared her up and down.
Skye then turned to Gordon as he said, "We think Raina's gift may allow her to see things before they happen."
"I thought her gift was spinning really fast to collect gold rings," she sassed, crossing her arms.
"Tell me what you saw."
"Maybe she's right," Raina started doubting herself. "What I saw doesn't make much sense. Why would Coulson be working with Ward?"
Skye's eyes widened and she stumbled over her words, "C-Coulson and Ward were together back at Cal's office, but I didn't..." She narrowed her eyes at her. "Tell anyone."
"You have to go. You do go."
"Go where?"
"Lincoln's in a dark room with two doctors. They're cutting into him." Skye swallowed thickly as she heard this news. "You find him. You're the only one who can save him."
Skye abruptly turned to Gordon. "You have to take me."
"I promised Jiaying I wouldn't use my gift," Gordon told her stiffly which made her want to rip all her hair out of her head.
"You need permission to save a friend?!" She shouted at him, scoffing.
"Last time I went back for Lincoln, HYDRA almost captured me. How will this be any different?"
Raina stepped forward, "Because where you take Skye is a long way from HYDRA."
"HOW are they all? Are you making friends? How did you get the intel about the base? Can you control your powers, or—?"
"Yes," Skye stopped Fitz and Simmons from firing questions at her. "Yes, I promise I will tell you guys everything. It's a lot. You might not believe me, but just not now."
"Well, we're just happy to see you, and you're being so secretive," Simmons told her, frowning.
"No, I'm happy to see you, too, but—"
Fitz spoke up, "Yeah, we've got a mission to do, not much time, blah, blah, blah." He rolled his eyes which made her chuckle lightly.
Skye shook her head and whispered, "No, Ward is here. I don't want to talk about anything personal in case he's just—"
"Did I hear my name?" He asked, coming into the room.
"He's like candyman," she whispered to them as everyone else came into the room.
"We should review the op," Coulson spoke up, sighing. "Ward... can't believe I'm saying this... bring us up to speed on Bakshi's intel."
Ward nodded. "All right. Bakshi's using old HYDRA text channels to provide us with intel, although m—" He looked back at them, taking in their angered and unimpressed faces. "Much of it is, uh... much... All right. Can we just address the elephant on the plane? I know. This is weird. Mistakes were made."
"By you."
"And people got hurt."
"By you."
"And I could stand here and explain again how my parents and brother left me vulnerable..."
"Oh, shut the fuck up!" Skye exclaimed which made them all turn to look at her. "We all had our traumas. Didn't turn any of us into psychopaths."
"Well," he gave her a look. "W all have our own ways of coping, don't we? For example, I was May's." Skye shook her head in disappointment at May.
"Watch it, Ward!"
Ward sighed. "Look, I'm just saying we all made mistakes. Coulson handed me over to my abuser... thank you. May shot me—"
"After you killed how many people?" Skye questioned.
"Yeah, and we were a team and a family, and you betrayed us!" Fitz shouted; Skye patted him on the back, giving reassurance.
"I know." Ward nodded. "It's what I regret the most. Not the lying, the SHIELD agents I had to put down, and... I'm sorry..." He gave Fitz and Simmons a look. "Not even dropping you two in the ocean. It's this." He gestured to them, even glanced at Skye. "My actions destroyed this. I'll regret that forever. 'Cause there were good times. Right? Before? I mean, for a while there, we were a good team. Weren't we?"
"I'm still happy I shot you," May grumbled.
"I wish I was the one to shoot him," Skye spoke up, glaring at Ward.
"Yeah, me too."
"Should've aimed for the face."
"Yeah..."
"Guys..." Coulson finally decided to say something, "I know this is so weird, but we have to come back to the mission. Two teams. Skye, Ward, and Simmons on rescue and medical. Fitz and I will break in to missile defense and gather intel. May's with us for firepower."
"Wait. You're not on rescue?" Skye questioned him.
"Let me handle the job assignments. The point is, there's a lot of challenges ahead. We don't want to implode before we even get there. And, Ward, just... no more talking... to people."
"WE'VE been spotted. It's time," May told them over the intercom. Skye strapped a gun to each of her thighs and nodded, satisfied. "I've got visual on the target, buckle in." Skye threw her backpack over her shoulder and ran. "They've locked on."
Not even seconds later, they exploded.
Skye held onto the seat belt, looking across her at Simmons.
"I'm starting to think this wasn't a very good plan!" Coulson shouted over the ruckus. "Is there anything you can do about the drop?!"
"Not if we want HYDRA to believe we're debris!" May shouted back which made the knot in Skye's stomach tighten; sge was really nervous.
"I'm really starting to wish I hadn't eaten that hot pocket earlier!" Coulson shouted again but this time, Skye laughed which didn't make her feel any better.
"Hold on!"
THEY bursted into the building, their guns raised; no one was in sight. Skye nodded in relief and hurriedly yanked off the large winter jacket she had on.
They then ventured down the dark hall where they then met up with Bakshi who said, "I was being followed." His eyes were wide and was breathing heavily.
Ward stepped forward. "Calm your mind, Bakshi. Your compliance will be rewarded."
"Good to see you again, Sir. Where's Kara?"
"Exactly where she needs to be. Is List still here?"
"Yes, sir. In the lab, along with the other prisoners."
"And the mainframe room?"
"Down the hall, to the left."
"Everyone clear on their team's objective?" Coulson asked them. "Remember, just 15 minutes till Gonzales' jets arrive. Move."
AS soon as they walked into the room, they were being shot at. Skye flinched and behind a table, getting ready for the perfect moment.
She ran around the table and threw out her hand, and watched as the three HYDRA agents went flying back. She grinned and nodded to herself, feeling proud of her awesome work.
She glanced to the others before racing forward to only see Mike behind a bullet proof glass, a patch covering his eye. She ignored him as she looked at the room beside his; it was empty.
"There's another guy in here," she stated, looking at Mike with pleading eyes. "He had electrical powers."
"Lincoln?"
"Yeah."
"They moved him just before you showed. You need to hurry. The guy's in pretty bad shape."
Skye nodded before running off, her heart pounding against her rib cage.
She came up behind an agent, kicked the back of his knee, he fell, she chocked him, and shot at two other agents that came towards her. She used the agent she was holding and rolled, slid around on er knee, shot him, hid behind a table just as another agent shot at her. The table had an opening in the middle of it, so she shot him in the leg, and when he fell, she shot him in the head.
Skye stood up and shot another agent who tried to sneak up on her.
She sighed as she had to reload her gun, and as she was doing so, an agent was coming up behind her, so she rolled over the table. An agent tried to grab her, but she easily dodged his arm, grabbed it, bent it backwards, and flipped him over before shooting him.
She swirled around, hid behind another table, and when the agent was coming towards her, she shot a pipe which made it all foggy. She ventured around the table and shot him in the back before throwing her gun on the floor; both guns were out of ammo.
She slid across the floor on her side, kicked an agent in the face, stole his gun, shot him in the face, and jumped up to her feet. She rolled into a sitting position and shot an agent who came out of the operating room; he was the last one.
Skye then ran into the operating room to only hear the heart monitor beeping; Lincoln was dead.
Tears came to her eyes as she looked down at his body. Her hands started shaking when an idea came to mind. With her quake powers and with his electrical ones, she might be able to restart his heaty.
She let out a shaky breath before holding her hands over where his heart is. She focused all her will power and pushed her power to only work on his chest.
She grunted as his electrical powers worked with her's, and it happened; it shocked his heart into working again.
