let her sleep for when she wakes, she will move mountains
"SCOTT, we parked on the fifth level," Skye told her brother as they stepped out of the elevator on the third level. Her arms were hurting from the grocery bags she was carrying. While Scott carried four, she only carried two.
"Damn it," Scott groaned as they turned around and went back into the elevator.
"Damn it' is right, idjit." She rolled her eyes at her brother as they then walked into the fourth level. "Scott!" She whined like a five year old.
"What? You said Fourth, right?" He asked, a confused puppy look on his face.
"No!" She shouted, her voice booming throughout the car lot. "I said Fifth! Five. You know, the number after four. Or in our case, above."
"Let's make sure though," Scott told her, lowering the grocery bags on the floor, took out the car keys, and pressed the alarm button; it went off above them.
"Told you, you freakin' moron!" She rolled her eyes at her brother as he went to pick up his grocery bags, but the milk bottle rolled out. "Looks like we won't be able to make that homemade ice cream tonight," as those words left her lips, the bottle came rolling back towards them, claw marks on it.
Skye looked back at Scott as a growl was heard. She threw the grocery bags at the alpha that hid behind the car and ran for it, right behind Scott.
He started jumping on cars, the alarms going off which made Skye confused until she realized that he was trying to overpower their heartbeats. She threw out her hand, feeling the familiar tingly buzzy feeling in her hands, and tried use her power to push a car into the middle of the parking lot. But, instead, the car went flying across the parking lot, landing on other cars, glass shattering everywhere.
"Skye!" Scott's voice hissed before she was pulled behind a car. They both look at each other, wide eyed, scared. Everything was silent other than the alarms until Scott's phone rung.
Both of their arms were grabbed and they were slammed down onto the hood of the car they were hiding behind.
"You're dead."
She relaxed slightly as she realized that it was Derek. But, then she grew angry. "What —what the hell was that?"
Derek shrugged and started walking away. "Said I was gonna teach you. I didn't say when."
"You scared the shit out of us." Skye's hands ran through her knotty brown hair.
Derek looked them over and shook his head. "Not yet."
"Eww!" Skye exclaimed, her eyebrows scrunched up.
"Okay, but I was fast, right?" Scott questioned which made Skye jab him in the side with her elbow. "We were fast, right?"
Derek shook his head, a scowl on his face. "Not fast enough." He then glanced to Skye. "Whatever you did, it did not help any. And if the alpha finds out, he'll come for you." She cringed slightly, already knowing that the alpha knew.
"But — but the car alarm thing, that was smart, right?"
Derek nodded before saying, lTill your phone rang."
"Yeah, but that was — I mean—"
Skye then grew angry which made the building start shaking. "Would you just stop!?" He turned around to face her, surprise on his face.
"Please?" Scott questioned, sending his sister a look. "What almost happened the other night, Stiles' dad getting almost hurt, that was my fault. I should have been there to do something, thank god Skye was. I need you to teach me how to control this."
Derek sighed and faced us both. "Look, I am what I am because of birth. Scott, you were bitten. Teaching someone who was bitten takes time. I don't even know if I can teach you."
"What do I have to do?"
"You have to get rid of distractions." He grabbed Scott's phone and held it up; it showed Allison's name. "You see this? This is why I caught you. You want me to teach you? Get rid of her."
"What, just because of her family?" Skye questioned, crossing her arms. Derek threw back his arm then threw Scott's phone at the wall; it shattering into pieces.
"Wait — wait — whoa!"
Derek smirked. "You getting angry?" He questioned. "That's your first lesson. You want to learn how to control this, how to shift, you do it through anger, by tapping into a primal animal rage, and you can't do that with her around." He then turned to Skye. "And telling by you, your gift kicks in when you're scared or angry, try to not get angry or scared."
"I can get angry," Scott defended himself at the same time Skye said, "I was not scared."
"Not angry enough," Derek responded to Scott. "This is the only way that I can teach you. Now, can you stay away from her? At least until after the full moon?"
"If that's what it takes." Scott nodded.
Derek then looked Skye up and down. "Your chemo signals are telling me that you're annoyed. And back there, when I was chasing you, you had a mix of both anger and fear. For you to not be able to hurt others or yourself, you need to learn control."
"What are you, my Yoda?" She questioned with a scoff.
"Do you want to live? Do you want to protect your friends? Yes or no?"
Scott and Skye looked at each other before nodding. "Yes."
SKYE looked between her brother and Stiles.
"Still not talking to me?" Scott asked their best friend who had his lips pursed and foot bouncing up and down. "You know I feel really bad about it, right?"
Stiles looked at the brunette. "Skye will you tell your brother that I will not be speaking to him?"
"Okay." Scott sighed. "What if I told you that I'm trying to figure this whole thing out, and — That I went to Derek for help? And Skye did too?"
Stiles looked at the female McCall in disbelief. "If I was talking to you, I'd say that you're both idiots for trusting him. But obviously I'm not talking to you."
"Five. Four. Three," Skye started counting down in a whisper. "Two. One.."
Stiles abruptly turned to face Scott. "What did he say?"
Moments later in the hall, Stiles exclaimed, "Wh — he wants you to tap into your animal side and get angry!?"
"Yeah."
Stiles then turned to Skye. "And he doesn't want you to get angry?"
"Yup."
"All right, well, correct me if I'm wrong, but every time you do that, you try to kill someone, and that someone's usually me," Stiles pointed out, staring at Scott before turning to Skye, "And since you got these powers, you have saved my dad from a car and saved yourself from the alpha. I think you're doing one hell of a job."
"I know," Scott spoke up. "That's what he means when he says he doesn't know if he can teach me. I have to be able to control it." He wrapped his arm around his sisters shoulder. "And I think all Skye needs to do is find what she is able to do and control it."
"Well, how's he gonna teach you to do that?"
"I don't know." Scott shrugged. "I don't think he does either."
"Okay." Stiles nodded. "When are you seeing him again?"
"He told me not to talk about it," Scott informed their best friend. "Just act normal and get through the day."
"When?"
"He's picking Scott up at the animal clinic after work," Skye informed Stiles realizing that Scott wasn't going say anything.
"After work," Stiles whispered. "All right, well, that gives me to the end of the school day then."
"To do what?"
"To teach you myself."
THEY stood on the Lacrosse field.
"Okay. Now — put this on." Skye handed her brother a heart monitor while she put one on herself.
"Isn't this one of the heart rate monitors for the track team?" Scott questioned his best friend and sister, his brows furrowed as he looked between the duo.
"Yeah, we borrowed it," Skys told her brother, smirking.
"Stole it."
"Temporarily misappropriated," Stiles stood up for Skye. "You both will be wearing them the rest of the day." He then took out Coach's phone.
"Isn't that coach's phone?"
Stiles and Skye smirked at each other. "That, we stole."
"Why?"
"All right, well, your heart rate goes up when you go wolf or when you're angry, right?" Scott and Skye nodded. "Maybe learning to control it is tied to learning to control your heart rate."
"Like the Incredible Hulk," Scott pointed out.
"Kind of like the Incredible Hulk, yeah." Stiles nodded as he took out a roll of tape and put Skye's hands behind her back, taping them together.
"Kinky." Skye looked behind her at Stiles and winked which made him stumble over himself.
"This isn't exactly how I wanted to spend my free period," Scott grumbled as Stiles then started taping his hands together.
"All right. You ready?"
"No," Both Scott and Skye answered.
"Remember, don't get angry."
Stiles picked up his lacrosse stick, put a ball in it, and flung it at Scott. Skye chuckled at her brother's pain before she was hit in the stomach. "Ow," she complained, closing her eyes.
"Sorry." She heard Stiles say but ignored him as she felt the familiar buzz in her hand.
"Calm down. Calm down," she whispered to herself, over and over again. "I'm starting to think this was a really bad idea," she spoke aloud as another lacrosse ball hit her in the stomach.
"Quiet. Remember, you're supposed to be thinking about your heart rate, all right? About staying calm," Stiles's voice filled her ears as she tried to control her heart rate; she could feel it spiking up.
"Staying calm. Staying totally calm." She heard Scott mumble to himself before he screamed out, "There's no balls flying at my face -/ Aah! Son of a bitch!"
"That's what she said?" Skye suggested, closing her eyes tightly together.
She groaned before she slipped over her feet and fell onto her knees. Everything blurred as she felt the buzz in her hands spread further up her arm; she was trying to contain it, but it was really painful. Everything stopped as her hands broke free from the tape and she threw out her hands, stopping the ball that was close to hitting her face.
It was as if time had stopped when she stopped the ball mid-way before it flung back and roughly hit Stiles in the stomach, sending him backwards.
Skye's eyes widened before she stood up and ran towards him, her hands gently grabbing his face. "I'm sorry, Stiles, I'm so sorry."
"It's okay," Stiles grunted in pain, sitting up.
"No, no it's not." She shook her head as tears escaped her eyes. "I hurt you; I'm dangerous."
"Shh. Shh." He grabbed her face and made her look at him. "You're not dangerous." He pulled her into him, petting her hair, and rubbing her back, as well. "So it is anger, then."
"LET'S settle down," Coach spoke as he entered the classroom. "Let's start with a quick summary of last night's reading. Greenberg, put your hand down. Everybody knows you did the reading. How about, uh — McCall."
"Which one?" Skye questioned.
"Male Mccall!" She shrunk back when Coach yelled it out. "The reading."
"Last night's reading?" Scott questioned, confused.
"How about, uh, the reading of the Gettysburg Address?"
"What?"
"That's sarcasm. You familiar with the term "sarcasm," male McCall?"
Scott glanced back at Stiles and Skye who gave him wink's in reply. "Very."
"Did you do the reading or not?"
"Uh — I think I forgot." Scott's heart monitor started going off.
"Nice work, male McCall. It's not like you're not averaging a "D" in this class. Come on, buddy. You know I can't keep you on the team if you have a "D." How about you summarize, uh, the previous night's reading?" Skye's heart monitor started to match Scott's as she grew angry at Coach. "No? How about the, uh, the night before that? How about you summarize anything you've ever read -/ In your entire life?"
"I - I, uh—"
"No? A blog? How about, uh, how about, uh, the back of a cereal box? No? How about the adults only warning from your favorite website you visit every night? Anything? Thank you, McCall, thank you. Thank you, McCall!" Coach slammed his hands down on Scott's desk which made Skye have to ball her hands up into fists; her desk started to shake.
"Thank you for extinguishing any last flicker of hope I have for your generation. You just blew it for everybody. Thanks. Next practice you can start with suicide runs." Skye lowered her hands down to her side, clenching her fists so hard that she was sure that she was drawing blood. "Unless that's too much reading."
Her hand was grabbed, fingers entwining with hers, and she relaxed as she looked back, realizing that it was Stiles' hand in her's.
"All right. Everybody else, settle down."
"IT'S Allison," Stiles blurted out as they walked through the halls. "Remember what you told me about the night of the full moon? You were thinking about her, right? About protecting her. And the night of the first lacrosse game? You said you could hear her voice out on the field."
Scott nodded. "Yeah, I did."
"Well, so that's what brought you back so you could score. And then after the game in the locker room, you didn't kill her. At least not like how you were trying to kill Skye and I. She brings you back, is what I'm saying," Stiles explained, glancing at Skye which made her look away from him, blushing.
Since it was Stiles that had calmed her down; does that mean he's the one that brings her back?
"Look, back in the classroom when she was holding your hand, that was different, okay? I don't think she makes you weak. I — I think she actually gives you control."
"Basically, she's your anchor, Scott." Skye patted her brother on the back, glancing at Stiles. Is he her anchor?
"So what do I do?"
"I don't know." Stiles paused before pulling a face. "Yet."
"Oh, no. You're getting an idea, aren't you?" Skye asked their best friend.
"Yeah."
"Is this idea gonna get me in trouble?"
"Maybe."
"Is this idea gonna cause me physical pain?"
"Yeah, definitely." Stiles nodded his head. "Come on."
"Even though I'd love to see my brother in pain, I need to do some research about what is happening to me." Skye bit her lip as she thought about the situation she's in. "I don't know how to control this... power thing. If I don't learn how to control it soon, I'm gonna end up hurting someone."
Skye glanced at Stiles. "I almost didn't save your dad in time, and last night, when Derek scared us, when I thought it was the alpha, I threw a car across the parking lot. And earlier... when I hurt you... I can't do that again." She worriedly chewed on the inside of her cheek before pulling both of her boys into a group hug. "Don't kill each other while I'm not here, okay?"
"Okay."
When Scott pulled back, Stiles lingered a little longer. She guessed it was for reassurance, either way, it felt nice to be in his arms. She knew it might sound weird but she has only ever hugged him a handful of times.
"Bye." She waved at them before jumping onto her bike, and rode away.
