Chapter 6: Hope

As Yae looked up after being licked on the cheek, she noticed a dark colored dog with red eyes.

"I've never seen this dog before. Where'd it come from?" Asked Yae, before immediately shrugging it off and standing. "Oh why do I care anymore? The dog will end up dying once the cycle repeats. There's no hope anymore."

Yae attempted to walk away and leave the dog be, however the animal just followed her and kept barking.

Eventually Yae finally gave in as she turned around and picked up the small animal as she smiled.

"Poor thing. You look hungry. I'll get some porridge for you." Said Yae as she carried the dog with her to the kitchen as she set it down, grabbing a bowl.

As she was about to put the porridge in it, she heard the dog wolf again, as she turned around and saw it sat next to a large bowl of bitter herbs.

"Why're you next to that bowl? Yes I know Rin spilled the soup. What're you trying to say?" She asked.

The dog simply barked again and encircled around the soup, as Yae smiled, now understanding the message.

"Right. I shouldn't give up hope. Okay, I'll make Rin another soup."

Once that was all done, Yae had finally gone back to where Rin was, new soup in hand as she placed the bowl next to Rin and kneeled down beside her.

"P-Please don't be mad Sakura. It was my fault. I'll finish the soup you made for me." Said Rin.

Before Rin could even attempt to grab it, Yae interjected.

"No, Rin. You're probably right. Maybe, you won't get any better. You don't have to drink the soup if you don't want too." Said Yae.

Before Rin could respond, she heard a woof as out from behind Yae appeared the dog.

"Oh my god it's so cute! Big sis who is this!?" Excitedly said Rin who immediately picked up and cuddled the dog much to Yae's surprise.

"O-Oh. Um, I didn't expect that it'd follow me here." Said Yae.

All the while, Rin just keep feeding the little dog with lots of affection.

"Does it have a name?" Asked Rin.

"I, honestly don't know." Said Yae.

"Hmm. Then we'll call him Wolf! I think that name really fits him!" Said Rin.

All the fun in the room immediately stopped as the door slid open to reveal the Priest who looked at Rin and the dog as he simply scoffed at them.

"Playing with dogs now huh? Oh well, might as well let her have fun with the few hours she has left." Said the priest.

"M-Milord please stop!" Shouted Yae, whom the Priest looked and simply smirked at.

"Just a little heads up Sakura. The ritual starts soon. Make yourself ready, also, I hope you didn't forget about the offering. Since you asked me last time, this go around I elected not too tell her as you said. I just hope if that's really what you want." Said the Priest.

"Hm? Why's the milord talking about the offering?" Asked Rin who indeed was out of the loop.

"P-Please just stop! I cannot handle this anymore!" Shouted Yae.

Suddenly, Wolf leaped from Rin's grasp and onto the ground and it began barking and growling angrily at the priest who simply gave the dog zero attention as he turned around and waved the girls goodbye.

"Looks like your little companion doesn't like me. I'll see myself out now. Just remember, the ritual is tonight." He said as he walked away.

Yae didn't know what to do or say anymore while Rin went back to playing with Wolf.

"You shouldn't be shouting at milord like that big sis. Right, Wolf? I'm your friend, Rin! My sister's called Sakura! Hey Wolf, you ever seen Sakura Blossoms before? Sakura promised me to take me to the hills for a picnic where we're surrounded by them! Doesn't that sound nice?" Asked Rin as Wolf responded by happily wagging it's tail and jumping up and down.

"Well, then we'll be pleased to have you there with us Wolf!" She said, her a pinky finger touched Wolf's paw, making a promise to go see those blossoms.

Yae saw this and immediately knew that now was absolutely not the time to quit.

She made a promise to Rin, and she'd keep going until the very end.

"We're leaving this place Rin!" Said Yae as she immediately grabbed and held hands with Rin.

"We'll find a good doctor to cure you! We'll have the best food there is! We absolutely will go up to the hills to have a picnic amongst the Sakura Blossoms alongside Wolf!" Shouted Yae.

In an instant, all these predictable, endless cycles caught up to Yae as the doors quickly opened to show the priest standing there, now with multiple mask wearing accomplices.

"Another escape attempt huh? Seize them!" Shouted the Priest.

In an instant, two of the masked individuals grabbed and held Yae back as two others grabbed Rin to take her away.

The priest approached Yae and lifted her face so she can see his.

"Why must we go through this same song and dance Yae Sakura? You already know fully well how events proceed. That whole bit about me not telling Rin? It was a lie. In actuality, Rin knew about her fate the whole time." Said the Priest as he walked behind and grabbed Rin.

The younger sister looked up at Yae, tears falling down her eyes.

"I-I'm sorry, sis. They, told me about this. How, I'd be able to help you by giving myself up. I'm, glad that I can finally save the village like you. I'm, sorry that we won't be able to have the Sakura Blossom picnic, but big sis, promise me you'll become a good Miko, for my sake." Said Rin.

Any attempt Yae made to break free and grab Rin were all for naught as the two masked individuals did their job in holding her back.

Before the priest could begin taking Rin away, Wolf suddenly barked angrily, as it charged at the Priest and quickly took a deep bite onto his hand and tightly latching onto it.

"Ow! Ugh you stupid mutt!" Said the man in frustration as he shook his hand frantically to get the dog off.

Once that didn't work, he used his other hand to grab the dog as he yanked him off and harshly threw Wolf away as the dog collided against the wall.

"Wolf!" Shouted Rin who, due to no longer being held up, collapsed onto the floor.

"Enough wasting time! Take her away!" Shouted the Priest.

Rin looked up at fallen over Wolf with tears in her eyes.

"Milord. Though it may be time for me to join the gods, I felt a sense of hope when I saw Wolf. Perhaps in another world, Sakura, Wolf, and I will be able to go to the hills and have a picnic amongst the Sakura Blossoms." She said, reaching a hand out to Wolf.

As Sakura heard Rin's words, it moved her to tears, knowing that Rin still had hope, even in this grim situation.

"R-Rin!" Shouted Yae as she began to struggle again, even harder this time.

"Rin! I swear I WILL take you to that Sakura Blossom picnic!" Shouted Yae.

All of this only served to anger the Priest even more, who was already pissed off at having to attend to his bite wound.

"For the last time Yae Sakura, you will stop resisting me!" He shouted.

All of this banter caused the Priest to turn his attention away from the dog, as Wolf struggled up to its feet, as it began to charge extrmely quickly at him, before somehow jumping at, and right for his face.

Though the priest noticed this it was too late.

Midway through the jump, a bright glow began to emit from Wolf, as it got brighter and completely covered him, before a sudden fist came bursting out from the light, punching the priest square in the face and knocking him down.

Eventually, the bright glow went away, as now standing where Wolf once stood was non other than Alex.

"Man this world is wacky. Lost my sword, and then I get turned into a dog. Oh well, no need to get worked up about it now." Said the boy as he stretched, getting accustomed back to his human body, as he moved a hand to his back and felt a handle, confirming that his sword was now with him.

After confirming that, he turned to face Yae.

"You never gave up hope, even in the darkest of times. I'm grateful. Your hope is what brought me and my powers back. Thank you so much, Yae." Said Alex before extending a hand out to her.

"Now then, let me fulfill my promise, and break your cycle of hatred."
