The Struggle
I hear laughter
And snippets of conversation
As my parents and siblings
Share stories
Happily
Around the dinner table
I shift
Uncomfortably in my chair
Around my muscles
I feel the ugly fat
Perched
Like it owns me.
I try to smile
With my family
And laugh at the right places
I try hard
But all my mind sees,
Focuses on is my
Plate of Food
Sitting
And staring
Straight at me;
Go ahead.
Eat me.
I dare you.
The steak taunts me silently;
Of course she won't
If she does
I'll make her even fatter!
The potatoes sit
In a threatening pile;
Its silent laughter
Echoes in my ears,
But the worst
Is the cheese
Its silent stare
Melting;
Mouthwatering;
Fattening.
I instantly regretted
That one bite I had
When I first sat down.
My mind screams
Don't you want to fit
Into that little black dress?
But wait,
There's a friend!
A small, meek pile
Of salad
Smiles;
It's okay.
I'll help you.
I smile and look up
My family
Still oblivious
Chatters on
I carefully divide
My new friend
Into small, small portions;
They look friendlier.
As I chew
Chew, chew
Chew some more
Till my mouth
Feels almost empty,
My eyes land on
A magnificent presence
In a corner of the room
Dad's stationary cycle
Hey!
Jogging twice a day
Isn't enough
To loose that fat!
You should also
Come to me
Use me
Everyday
And I'll make your wish
Come true.
A/N. The struggle with anorexia is very real for many people, of whom many are teenagers.
Pay attention to your friends and family as it can happen to anyone and can continue for a long time if someone fails to notice.
You are worth more than your eating disorder. I believe in you all.
