“Arnav, Open the door. It's time for dinner. Arnav... Arnav…” Ratna knocked his room door wondering about his sudden silence behind the closed doors. Usually, it was always him who pester her for dinner even before the clock ticks eight. But today, it was past eight fifteen, still there’s no sound of him.
“Five minutes.” Came his voice after good three minutes of knocks.
“What are you doing, closing the door? Open it arnav.” She knocked it hard getting doubts by his reply.
“Don't distulb me amma. I am blusy.” He voiced out in irritation.
“What busy? Why you even locked the door Arnav? Didn't I warned you not to do so? Now open it else I'll not serve your favourite on dinner.”
In no time the door opened and Arnav stood there with poker face for being threatened for umpteenth time with the same bait. Ratna entered inside his room with suspicious look which soon turned into a full fledged smile, the moment her eyes laid on the strewn things across the study table.
“For this, you locked the door?” She questioned with a smile.
In reply he twisted his lips making a face, “Haan. You'll not keep quiet. That's why I locked the door.”
She scooped him in her arms not able to resist the cute face he made and pecked his chubby cheeks “Awww.. My bacha.”
He frowned wiping his cheeks where his mother kissed affectionately “Don’t kiss me. I am not baccha. I am blig boy.”
She chuckled hitting her forehead against his softly “Achha. I'll tell Khushi to not kiss her annav as he's blig boy now. And you too shouldn't kiss her, she's blig girl na.”
His eyes widened in horror shocked by his mother words. He hastily shook his head in denial “Noooooo… Noooooo… I am not a blig boy. I am Amma's baccha and Khuchi is annav baccha.”
“Ahaan.. Then who's Garima?”
As his mother locking him with her non-stop questions, arnav started to wiggle in her arms “Leave me amma. I need to finish this before sleep.”
“Shall I help you?” She asked making him stand on his feet.
“No. I almost filished this. I'll filish remaining too. You go… And don't tell this to Garima aunty, ok?”
“Ok boss.” She ruffled his hairs before leaving him alone to finish the remaining work.

Arnav impatiently stamped his foot on hard concrete road as the school bus took more time to come to his stop today. It's not that the bus was late, it's Arnav who got ready earlier and waiting impatiently cursing the bus driver.
“Arnav behave. Who taught you this bad words? I don't know why you got ready early today and was stubborn to come here earlier to fifteen minutes.” His father who heard his son's colourful words chided him, bringing him closer by his shoulder.
“Daddy… Today is khuchi's bilthday. Don't scold me.” He whined looking up at his father with a pout presenting a tempting view to his father.
“Oh, so this the reason behind my champ's extra charming look today. But wait, why should I not scold you? It is Khushi day not yours.”
“So whalt? She's my fliend. We share evelything. So her bilthday is my birthday too.” He argued adjusting his bag on shoulders.
“Naughty boy. You and your khuchi.” His father patted his cheeks affectionately. Meanwhile the bus has arrived finally. Without even responding to his father's bye & careful, he made a run & climbed over the steps hurriedly. His feet halted only when Khushi came into his vision.
“Khuchi… Happy birthday.” He roared cheerfully showing all his teeth.
Khushi waved her hands at him enthusiastically. Arnav walked fast and took his seat beside her.
“Annav…” She chortled happy by her bff's wish. Arnav rummaged his bag and took a big card and handed it to her.
“Khuchi this is for you.”
Khushi took it with big smile & opened it hastily. Arnav peeped over Khushi shoulder hoping not to miss her priceless reaction for his gift.
“I made it. Do you like it?”
Khushi passed a grateful look to him before moving her vision back to the card. Her little fingers run over the card in own accord.
“It's beautipul annav.” She exclaimed grinning ear to ear.
“I don't want to buy template made cards. So I made it seeing a video.” He shared in proud of his achievement.
She closed the card & put it inside her bag ever safely “Why didn't you call me? I was waiting for your call. I thought you'll wish me first.”
“I slept.” He grinned sheepishly settling himself comfortably on seat.
She pouted at his reply “Bad annav.”
“Don’t fight with me. I no want to scold you.” Arnav puffed and declared seriously.
“Okey okey.”
Whole day Arnav tagged himself with Khushi not leaving her alone for a minute so that no one would make her cry or tease her.
At evening a small house party is arranged at Khushi house for which Arnav went straightly to her home from school. He even refused to go to his house to change his uniform. Ratna had to come early for the party because of that.
Surrounded by little girls of her age, Khushi stood with wide grin looking ever cute in yellow lehenga. Arnav stood in a corner with angry pout. He's not liking the fact of Khushi giving more importance to her other friends than him. His little brain couldn't understand the need of her alone time with her other friends who are obviously girls much to his dismay. Not that he's fond of her befriending with opposite gender.
“Arnav why are you standing here alone? Go, play with your friends.” Ratna pointed few of his classmates.
“No. I don't want it.”
“Fine then, you stand here alone. Let Khushi and your friends enjoy the party.” Ratna uttered nonchalantly and that did worked. Arnav forgot his earlier gloominess and divulge himself into party mode.
“No. I want to enjoy it.” With that he ran towards the gang, squealed in joy as the cake has been set up at the centre.
Damped by the rain of wishes, Khushi cut the cake amidst of Arnav's angry stare aimed at Maanav, her cousin. As Khushi is small, Garima distributed the cake. Arnav who was about to stuff the big cake piece into his mouth, stopped himself at last moment. He made his way towards the crowd which surrounded Khushi, he pushed few on his way. Taking a small piece from his small piece, he fed to Khushi.
“Happieee bilthday khuchi.”
“Thank you.” She said through her stuffed mouth.
“Welcome. Ahhh. Wait. I forgot one thing.”
He ran to his mother & pulled the hem of her pallu.
“Amma, that gift.”
“Here you go.” He didn't even stand there till she complete her sentence. The moment he got what he wanted, he ran back to Khushi and extended a small box to Khushi.
She didn't waste any longer and worked on opening the box and stood awwed at the thing inside it.
“You made it?” She asked thinking about the answer he gave on morning and expected him to say the same.
“No, I bought it.”
“It's beautiful.”
“Thank you.”
“No no annav. Me thank you. You bought gift for me Naa. Why are you saying thanks to me?”
“You praised my gilft na.”
“We equal okey. Me thanks for giving gift and you… thanks for….
“Liking my gift.” He finished the sentence as they laughed in pure innocence.
"We're equal Naa.. Where's my bilthday gilft?" Asked Arnav with a frown.
Khushi adopted a shocked look. She doesn't have anything to give him. She was about to say sorry when that particular scene caught her eyes. She saw her parents standing far from them in a corner. Her father sneakily kissed her mother cheeks. An instant idea popped on her mind. In no time she lurched forward and placed her lips on her annav chubby cheeks in an innocent way "Happie birthday annav."
"Thank you." It's Arnav time to reply shyly.
