TW: Again, this will be highly triggering and is meant for those that want to save someone or have the knowledge to save someone in the future if it comes necessary. 

         Okay, the WORST feeling ever is having to talk someone out of suicide. Even worse, your friends. EVEN worse, a family member or best friend. But I don't care how much it pains you at that point, you cannot let go of them. You need to stay strong, so they can to. 

What To Do

              So, in this instance, I will be portraying a 'scene' where someone is going to go jump off a bridge, and you are going to be a passerby trying to stop them. You want to approach them slowly, and maintain a bit of distance. Ask them to talk to you, and notice if they are crying. This is going to sound counter productive, but if they aren't crying, you need to GET them crying. Get them to talk to you, and if possible, say 'Get away from the ledge for a minute and we can talk.' Im telling you now its not going to be as easy as that. Sometimes, they want to just see if anyone cares even. So you just stopping them and asking to talk is enough sometimes. But sometimes, thats not the case. These are going to be the people who aren't crying, who have gone numb, who don't give a damn, and just are set on their deaths. Ask them about their families. Ask them how their families would feel. At this point, I just need you to get them in tears. DO NOT say suicide is selfish. There is a contrast between being selfish and wanting to die. But at that point, if hurting people is the only reason to stay, then that's what you need to do. DO NOT guilt them. This isn't their fault. Here is something you need to know with every person you want to help. You can not and never will save them all. Its a hard truth to swallow, but its exactly that. The truth. This doesn't mean never help anyone because of the fear of losing them. If you don't help them, who will? Then you most definitely will have a loss. So, just try, okay? Just try. Yes, there is a chance you may be unsuccessful and lose them, but just try to sleep at night knowing that you did try and it wasn't ultimately your fault. If you couldn't save them, death was what they truly wanted and no one could have stopped it. SO, at least you tried and gave it your all.
