Healthy Coping Mechanisms For Self Harm

There is usually an undermining cause to self harm, whether they feel the need to inflict pain on themselves due to guilt or if it feels like its the only feeling they have. Sometimes, they just do it for no reason, and thats valid too. Sometimes there just isn't logical reasoning you can snap onto something.
But whatever your reason or lack of reason may be, there are much better ways to cope. So, please, if you are self harming talk to me and try out some of these methods. Just try to find something that works for you!

ALSO SIDE NOTE CUTTING ISNT THE ONLY FORM OF SELF HARM! Whether its scratching, cutting, hair pulling, burning, intensively nail biting, allowing people to stay in your life that hurt you, and more, thats all forms of self harm that might not be talked about as much.

1. Drawing on yourself. (Cutting)

   Pros: Gives the "scar" feeling that is usually satisfying. Can give the pressure sense of cutting.

Cons: If pressing hard enough, it can lead to skin punctures etc. Having ink marks and drawings all over you.

2. Three things you can see, two things you can touch, one thing you want to do in the future. (Anxiety Attacks, not self harm but still needs to be coped with)

Pros: Can be a way of getting your mind off things.

Cons: Can produce more negative thoughts depending on the person, usually doesnt work on calming down.

3. Heaters(Burning)

Pros: Give the warming sensation.

Cons: Is easy to turn into a self harm method.

4. Ice with Red coloring (Cutting)

Pros: Gives the satisfaction of seeing "blood" and a feeling from the ice.

Cons: Is not ideal, but if it works, thats great.
