Part Twenty-Seven:

Lucius' POV:

I shudder in anticipation, something that I would not normally do.

Today is the day that I, Lucius Malfoy, am going to go to Hogwarts to meet my son's fiance, Hermione Granger. I would also be taking her to dinner to apologise for everything.

Just like my wife, I have given up my views on blood purity, however, I did not give up my views on what a proper Malfoy should be. I was going to whip that girl into shape before she married my son, whether she liked it or not.

"Lucius! It's time to go!" Narcissa calls. I grumble. How dare my son not tell me anything! Narcissa had already told me that she gave him an earful, but I really hoped I got the chance to give him another.

"We need to apparate to Diagon Alley first." My wife says from beside me. "Pansy and Theo are getting married first, so they are going first for everything. The rest of us are staying in a group." Narcissa straightens my tie and plants a small kiss on my cheek. "Please try not to kill Harry, dear, he's a very nice boy."

"I think they'll be the ones wanting to kill me," I drawl. I take my wife's hand and will myself to be in Diagon Alley. A familiar tugging sensation grows at my navel before a loud 'pop' is heard, and we are there.

I ignore the looks people give my wife and I and walk down the narrow alleyway. I walk along with my cane, which conceals my wand, and wrap an arm around my wife's waist.

Since the war ended, I had been cleared of time in Azkaban. Really, I didn't know why, but I was glad that I wouldn't have to return to that prison.

Narcissa looks around and spots Draco, standing a good distance away from Hermione Granger, Ronald Weasley, and Harry Potter, and looking at a shop window with brooms in it. I notice that Longbottom's kid and Xenophilius's kid are also there, along with the youngest Weasley, Theodore, Pansy, Astoria, and Blaise.

"Uncle Lucius!" Theo exclaims, wrapping me in a tight hug.

I clear my throat. "MHM, yes, hello, Theodore." I pat his back awkwardly.

Blaise holds out his hand. "We've missed you uncle."

I give Blaise the tiniest smile known to man at his manners that are certainly much better than Theodore's.

Astoria and Pansy curtsy at me. "Uncle Lucius." They chorus.

I bow. "Miss Greengrass, Miss Parkinson, lovely to see you again. Pansy, I hear you're marrying Theodore?" Theodore wraps his arms around Pansy's shoulders.

Pansy makes a disgusted face. "We're in public, don't you dare embarrass me." I smirk, Well, at least this one was raised right.

Theodore huffs. "Me? Embarrassing? Never!"

"WELL! We have an appointment at the bakery in a minute so let's get going, shall we?" My wife herds the young adults around. "If we are late because of some silly shenanigans, I will personally ensure that your wedding cake is full of spiders!"

Theodore gulps. "Message received, Aunt Cissa, message received."

Hermione Granger smacks my son on the shoulder and points to me. His face hardens and he slowly makes his way over. Miss Granger mutters something angrily to him and he takes a deep breath before walking over to us.

"Draco," I drone. "You have failed to inform me that you were due to marry Miss Granger. I am very disappointed."

"Should I care, father?" He snarls at me.

"Well why don't we just go in and try some cake!" Miss Granger suggests, cheerfully. "That's a good idea, 'Mione! Let's go!"

Draco shoots me one last glare before letting himself get dragged along with Miss Granger. "She's already as bossy as you, darling." I say to my wife.

Narcissa looks at Miss Granger. "Her wedding gown and bridesmaids dresses are fit for a Malfoy wedding. Very expensive." She nods. "Let's go, we're exactly a minute late!"

My wife drags me into a private room in the bakery. I notice that there are several tables, each having three or four different cakes on it.

"This one!" Pansy exclaims, taking a delicate bite of a pink cake.

"Raspberry cream? Really?" Theodore asks.

"Yes! And royal icing. 5 tiers." Pansy concludes. "Get up, you oaf! We've got places to be!" Pansy pulls Theodore up. He yelps.

I nod at them as they leave. "Congratulations, Miss Parkinson, you have a hold on him."

She smirks. "He pretends to be all tough but he's a big baby. Ta!"

"Hello, Mr. Malfoy." Miss Granger chirps. "I was thinking about a chocolate and almond cake. What do you think?" She hands me a small slice and I take a bite.

"Not bad." I comment.

Narcissa smiles brightly. "I love it! And there could be shredded almonds on top!"

Miss Granger beams back. "And some coconut too!"

"You should get different flavours." I suggest. "One tier is one flavour and have three or four tiers. It makes you seem...sophisticated."

Draco growls. "There no need-"

Miss Granger shoves him aside and happily bites into another piece of cake. "That's a lovely idea, Mr. Malfoy! That way if anybody has allergies there are other flavours!"

Draco looks between Miss Granger and I. "There's no way you two are actually agreeing!" He pants.

"Well Draco, it wasn't a bad idea so-" My wife tries to intervene.

"Yes! It's actually quite thoughtful. Everybody will be able to have cake!" Miss Granger exclaims.

Draco snorts. "What if some people don't want-MMPH!" The youngest Weasley shoves an entire piece of cake into his mouth.

"Shut it Malfoy, you're becoming an annoying ferret again!" She whines, taking another bite of cake. When she turns to look at me she freezes. "Hell-o! Mr....uh....Malfoy!"

"Miss Weasley," I greet her. There was an awkward silence. 'You should compliment people to show you've changed,' Narcissa said. 'It's quite fulfilling actually!' I clear my throat. "You look lovely."

She looks shocked. "Uh...thank...you?" I give a stiff nod. This is not fulfilling, Narcissa, this is gawky.

"DRACO!" Miss Granger cries, swiping at her shirt.

My son smirks. "Oops."

"Draco Lucius Malfoy, what did you do." My wife threatens.

My son pales. "Nothing moth-" Miss Granger takes a piece of cake and smears it all over his face.

"Oops!" She mocks. She licks the frosting from her hands. "Ooh! I like this!"

I eye my son who is currently wiping cake from his face. "You deserved it!" Narcissa scolds, wiping the cake off with a handkerchief. "That was a very nice blouse she was wearing-!"

"So for flavours," I ask Miss Granger as my wife scolds my son. "You said chocolate almond, anything else in mind?"

She shakes her head. "I mean, we could possibly get the champagne cake? But every tier needs a different frosting, the frosting that goes with it. The frosting that heightens its deliciousness and-sorry, sir, am I rambling again?" She nibbles at her lip.

"No, it makes sense. The more things you have on a cake, the more power it suggests you have," I nod approvingly.

She frowns. "That's not what I meant. Ooh! Strawberry cheesecake!" She cuts a large slice and takes a bite. "This has always been one of my favourites."

I nod, also helping myself to a small slice. "Miss Granger, I want you to know that I am sorry-"

She smiles at me. "You were only trying to protect your family, I understand that. I definitely don't forgive your actions, but I can understand why you did what you did. It was war. People died. We move on." She finishes her slice of cheesecake. "If you don't mind, I need to find Malfoy-er...Draco."

I must say that I am thoroughly surprised, wasn't she supposed to hex me to bits?

"She told them all to refrain from trying to murder you," My wife says, looking at Miss Granger. "She always looks for the good in people, especially those who are the most hopeless."

I look at her, shocked. "How is it that you always know what I think?"

She smirks. "I have my ways."

Hermione's POV:

"So we have to have a ten tier cake with ten different frostings?" Draco asks, to clarify what I just told him.

I nod eagearly. "Yes! Ten different flavours too. Let's make a list. The top most tier is one, and the bottom tier is ten, ok? Your mother wants to be in charge of decorating it" I pull out a small piece of parchment.

Strawberry cheesecake, no frosting

Rum cake, bourbon laced frosting

Milk cake, condensed milk

Coffee cake, cinnamon frosting

Strawberry shortcake, whipped cream

Pound cake, no frosting but sprinkled powdered sugar

Boston creme pie cake, original frostings

Black Forest Gateau, chocolate fudge and herries

Vanilla cake, vanilla frosting

Fruit cake, no frosting

"This hurts my brain," Draco moans.

I smack him. "Your whole body could be on fire, yes your hair too, and I wouldn't care! It's my wedding day! If something goes wrong because you couldn't deal with-"

Draco snorts. "It's my wedding day too!"

I huff. "It's bad enough you haven't proposed yet!"

He glares at me. "I don't have to!"

I tsk. "What would your mother say?" He shut up and I giggled. "You know, I really want this wedding to be perfect." I wring my hands. "I just don't know who will give me away. I owled Mr. Weasley yesterday, so I hope he responds."

Draco nods. "I suppose my father could if Mr. Weasley can't..."

I look up at him. "I doubt that Draco, he really hated me." I sink back into my chair.

"Alright, let's head to the flower boutique!" Narcissa calls.

I sluggishly stand. Draco pulls me into a delicate hug. "He's trying to change, so are my mother and I." He releases me. "It will be fine, I promise."

"ROSES!" Narcissa yells.

"SUNFLOWERS!" Draco retorts.

Lucius looked panicked, quite possibly the most emotion I've ever seen him display. "Really, let's calm down, they're just flowers!"

"Roses will go with Hermione's bridesmaids dresses! Right Hermione?" Narcissa asks, turning to me.

"I agree. Sunflowers won't work, the colours will clash." Draco huffs and I place a hand on his back. "Draco, we'll get roses. Different coloured ones, okay?"

Draco sighs. "What colour are their dresses?"

I pause, looking at Narcissa, asking for permission to tell him. "Blush pink. So the colour scheme is...oh! It's kind of Valentine's-y now that I think about it. It's red, pink and silver...so far, anyways. I think we should change it through, we need a dark colour..."

Draco groans. "Can we take out the red and and put in some black? You'll get your dark colour! Plus, a classic black and white!"

Narcissa tuts. "Pansy and Theo are doing that since their wedding is so soon. Malfoys do not copy others."

I giggle. "Of course not! But we must keep the pink! Or perhaps we could do bronze instead? Well actually..."

Draco shakes his head. "Black, pink, and white."

"Black is the colour you wear for a funeral," I frown.

"Black goes with anything." He argues.

"So...roses?" Narcissa asks.

I nod. "Yes, definitely. Though I would like some different flowers too." I stand up and walk away from Draco. "We need three different types of bouquets. One for my, another for my bridal party, and the last type is for the tables. We also need flowers in a little flower-rope thing, do we not? For the aisles?"

Narcissa nodded. "Yes. I think we should decide on the colour scheme for your wedding now. Obviously we'll keep the blush pink, but other options are silver, red, and...black." Narcissa makes a face of disgust and pulls out her binder.

I nod, thinking about it. "I think I like the blush and silver. Draco, what do you want for the last colour?"

Draco smirks. "Black." Narcissa and I huff. He freezes. "ER! How about...gold?"

I frown. "I guess, but...then it seems more like a birthday party. To many light colours."

Draco sighs, exasperated. "NAVY BLUE!" He throws his hands up in the air.

I think about it. "Not a bad idea..."

Narcissa nods. "And it will make for a lovely balance!"

Draco beams. "Sooo....are we done with flowers now?"

"NO!"

"How much longer?" Draco whines.

Grimacing at his behaviour, I give him a subtle smack on the back. "Stop complaining."

"Alright, Lucius has made us a dinner reservation and wants to know if you want to invite a couple of friends, Hermione?" Narcissa asks. I look over her shoulder and see Lucius talking to somebody from the restaurant.

"Well maybe it'd be good for Harry and Gin to come? I know that Gin's really the grudge holder, but if he can change her mind, she'll have everyone seeing reason. And Harry for obvious reasons." Narcissa nods as I explain.

"SCARHEAD! POTTERETTE!" Draco yells.

"OI! WHAT DO YOU WANT, FERRET!?" Harry yells back.

I wave them over. Ginny whispers something in Harry's ear and they walk over.

"Mr. Potter, Miss Weasley! Please, come to dinner with us!" Narcissa gestures over to the restaurant. "Our treat. We'd like to...er...apologize for everything." She bows her head.

Ginny looks at Harry skeptically. "Please, Harry," I whisper. "You were saved by a mother's love more than once, and Narcissa is one of the mother's. If you don't go for Lucius, at least go for her?"

Harry slowly nods. "Of course, thank you for the invitation."

Narcissa leads us to a private box. "Look, we know that we did many wrong things." A waiter sits us down at a table. "We want to apologize and hopefully, move on from that."

Ginny cautiously takes a sip from her water, as cautious as somebody would be if they suspected poison. "I suppose we could try."

She looked at Harry. "I think," He said. "That I would like that."

Narcissa beamed and Lucius let out the smallest smile, but it was still a smile nonetheless.
