46: Shopping
A/N: AHHHHH! THANK YOU GUYS SO MUCH FOR READING THIS OMG! 500 reads! That's crazy! Thank you all so much! (This chapter will be extra long!)
Hermione's POV:
Crunch.
"Ah, apples. There's nothing better than sitting down and taking a bite into a crunchy, cool, delicious green apple, letting the crisp taste hit your tongue and bring you to another world."
I slowly open my eyes and shift comfortably in my warm, cozy bed. I laugh softly at the daily apple rambling that I had gotten so used to.
"Waking up. Nothing feels better than waking up in warm sheets and seeing the brilliant rays of sunshine racing through your window. To see the birds chirping and the flowers swaying in the meadow." I mutter. I inhale the sweet scent of chocolate chip cookies, the cookies that we had snacked on last night. "To smell last night's wonderfully warm snack and relieve all the recent memories that just occurred before sleep overtook you."
"Ehh..." Draco shrugs as I turn around. He takes another large bite of his apple, the crunch echoes through the room. "Apples are much better."
I huff, shaking my head wildly to let my hair fall from a ginormous mess above my head to a ginormous mess on my shoulders.
"Shopping with the girls today," Draco rolls his eyes and twists the apple in his hands.
I giggle. "Three parties to shop for, can't you just imagine how 'wonderful' it will be!" I flop back in bed, treasuring the last bit of peace I would get.
"Mmm," Draco nods. "The guys and I are mostly just getting one suit then changing the colour."
I sit up abruptly. "Draco! That's fashion suicide!" I stop talking at once, horrified.
"You sound like Pansy," Draco notes, amused.
I pull the covers off, letting the cool air hit my bare legs and arms. I shudder a bit, but the feeling is not unpleasant. In fact, it's rather welcome.
"Don't forget, we're also doing gift shopping." I remind him.
Draco remains emotionless, a bit concerning but also not unusual. "Yay! Shopping!" He mocks.
I stand up and wobble a bit. Once I catch my balance, I head to my wardrobe. I decide to pick out a simple outfit, afterall, I was going to be trying on dresses, so why try too hard?
I walk into the bathroom and slip on my white tank top, black cardigan, white sneakers, and blue jeans. I brush my hair and put it in a messy bun.
"HURRY UP!" Draco yells from the other side.
"I've been in here for five minutes!" I yell back.
He stops banging on the door and I walk out. He smiles at me and walks into the bathroom, shutting the door gently behind him.
I skipped happily out of my room and down to the common room, where I saw Astoria, Lavender and Luna chatting away.
"Morning, 'Mione!" Luna chirped.
"Morning, all!" I greet them. I jump on the chair next to Luna's.
"GIRLS! STOP LAZING AROUND!" I turn around in shock and see Pansy and Ginny on the stairs, glaring at us.
I jump back and the chair flips over, trapping me under it. "Hey?" I squeak.
Pansy laughs and rushes over. She puts the chair back in it's position and I crawl out, ashamed and laughing.
"Thanks," I giggle.
Ginny huffs. "Really touching, but we need to get Professor Huckielle so we can go shopping!" She growls and goes to stomp out the doorway.
"Pregnancy," Lavender groans.
We all laugh and follow Ginny out the doorway, happily skipping along.
________________________________________________________________________________
"We'll be taking a portkey," Professor Huckielle informs us.
Professor Huckielle pulls out a small pink pendant. It's a simple circle about five inches big with a black lining, nothing else is special about it.
"Ready?" She asks. We all place our fingertips on the pendant.
A swirling feeling enters my stomach. My head aches and my legs go weak.
I land with a thud in the middle of a busy street on Diagon Alley. I quickly turn around, feeling eyes on me, but as always, nothing.
"Alright, we have three parties to shop for," Astoria informs Professor Huckielle. "And we want to do gift shopping."
Professor Huckielle nods. "Well right now it's about..." She trails off to look at a clock on a storefront about ten yards away. "10 right now, so why don't we gift shop until lunch?"
"Then after lunch we can go dress shopping." Lavender agrees.
"I'll make a lunch reservation," Luna offers. We all nod in agreement. "Ice cream parlour?" Once again, we nod, but this time, a lot more eagerly.
"Now, we need to all stay together," Professor Huckielle reminds us.
"Of course, Professor," I agree.
She smiles wistfully at me. "Call me Danielle, 'Professor' makes me feel old."
We all nod. "Of course, Pr-Danielle." I correct myself.
"Let's head to Gringotts first," Pansy suggests. "We'll be spending a lot more than we have on us right now."
I frown and pull out a decently sized bag of galleons. "Isn't this enough?"
Ginny giggles. "Not with where we're going!"
Professor-er...Danielle chuckles. "Let's get going then."
We just reached the doors to the bank as Astoria remembered something.
"Oh!" Astoria pulled out a small key. It looked like the key to the vault and did it have the...Malfoy crest?
"Draco says 'Have fun', by the way." Astoria plops the key into my hand.
"No way," Lavender squeals. "I hear they have an entire vault just for the employee's for their company!"
Professor Danielle chuckles. "I'm sure they do."
We arrive at the large goblin's desk. "Hel-lo." He mutters unenthusiastically. "What may I do for you?"
"I wish to enter my vault," I say stepping forward. My mind forces a memory upon me, a flashback of when I was Bellatrix. I stifle a laugh. "My friends also wish to enter theirs."
The goblin takes his glasses off and stares at me. "And do you have your key, Miss Granger?"
I show him the Malfoy key. He takes it in his hand. "Very well," He hops down from his podium and leads us to a room where there are carts. He motions towards a large one.
I step in, confidence unwavering. Embrace your inner Bellatrix. I snort and everybody gives me a weird look.
"Something funny?" Luna asks, looking extremely confused.
I clear my throat. "No just to get down to the Sacred 28 vaults you have to go through a magical waterfall."
The goblin looked surprised. "And how do you know that?" He drawls.
I smirk at everybody's confused faces. "I have my ways, let's just say."
Everybody else loads into the cart. "First stop, Brown vault."
The cart viciously halted in front of a modest vault. Lavender got out and turned the key in the keyhole. The door swung open and revealed an extremely organized vault.
Galleons lined the right wall, knuts and sickles were on the left, family heirlooms and other precious items were at the back. There was a table in the center with a vase of lavenders and stacks of galleons. She swept about seven stacks into her purse and returned to the cart.
"Next stop, Lovegood vault," The goblin announced. He pulled a lever and we were lurched forwards again.
This time when it finally stopped, we stopped in front of a medium sized vault with the words 'Lovegood: Ut Unique' on it. Luna stepped in after turning her key. She looked around carefully because swiping some galleons into her purse,
"Potter," The goblin announced. I looked over at his name tag, I feel bad calling him 'Goblin'! I saw that it said 'Gobstin', so he was Gobstin the Goblin.
We stopped in front of Harry's vault. Ginny nervously pushed in the key. I heard several locks being unlocked, Classic Harry, I think to myself.
Ginny gapes at the towering piles of gold, silver and bronze. With her mouth still open, she places galleons into her purse.
"So, does anyone have anything to confess?" I ask as we get back into the vault.
Luna looks at me like I'm insane. "No, why?"
Pansy smirks. "We're about to go through the waterfall."
Danielle nods. "I always hate this part."
We all look at her, confused. "What?" We ask.
She blushes slightly. "Er, yeah. My father married one of the Bulstrode's daughters but he's only a half-bood, so they disowned her."
I nod understandingly. "So it makes sense that you're-"
Fshshshch.
The water sprays all over me, mid-sentence. Everybody gasps except Gobstin, who stares ahead unblinkingly.
"Parkinson," Gobstin announces.
Pansy smirks. She twists the key in, but it doesn't open. She then places her wand against the door and it magically melts away.
Her vault looked big on the inside, but inside was even bigger. It looked like the size of my bathroom, so it was huge!
She waves her wand and flicks it towards her hand bag. Galleons went flying into her purse, landing perfectly with a small 'chink, chink, chink'.
"Greengrass next," Gobstin informs us. He waits for Pansy to step in before pulling the lever, and once again, we go zipping through.
My head starts spinning, but when my vision clears, I see Astoria walking into a vault the same size as Pansy's. The only difference is that Astoria's vault had much more jewelry than the Parkinsons.
"Last stop, Malfoy Vault #4." Gobstin announces.
"Number four?" I ask, dumbfounded by the sheer amount of money they must have had to have four vaults!
"They have seven," Gobstin says.
I nervously twist the key in my hands. "Oh."
When we arrive at the vault, I gasp.
The vaults doors alone looked like the cost more than my life.
"Just some advice," Pansy advises me. "Right, right, left."
I nod, though I was a bit confused. When I twist the key, three questions come up.
What number vault is this?
I click the four on the right side.
To whom does it belong?
I click the answer on the right, Malfoys.
What should one wish to find in here?
I click the answer on the left. Heaps and heaps of gold.
The door swings open eerily. I briefly have to cover my eyes, an intense golden light shines.
You know that moment in the movies where the girl stands in front of her boyfriend's bank vault and there's angels singing and a lot of gold? Yeah, that was the situation right now!
The vault was larger than Astoria and Pansy's combined, and was filled with gold and many (probably) priceless things.
"Hurry up now!" Gobstin called.
Nervously, I touched a galleon. It didn't multiply like crazy like the stuff in Bellatrix's did!
"Oh for heaven's sake!" Pansy gets up and shoulders her way past me. She takes my hand bag, my favourite, the one with the extension charm, and uses her arm to shove an entire shelf of gold in.
"Pansy!" I gasp. She simply shrugs and pushes me back into the cart.
"Draco said to have fun!" She argues. She laughs gently. "He won't miss it, Lucius is a walking gold mine, and Narcissa will just want you to be happy."
"Girls? Let's go!" Daniella calls from the cart. Pansy shoves me back and sits me down.
"Oh, get over it!" Astoria laughs. "That'll be your life now! You should get used to it."
I huff, but it's not out of annoyance. I just felt like I would become a prat...
Oh my god, when we have kids I need to raise them right!
The cart holts to a stop. "Thank you for coming, you can go now." Gobstin motions us out of the cart and we all bustle out.
"Gift shopping," Ginny breathes.
"Yay," I roll my eyes. The torture of shopping with these girls...starts now.
________________________________________________________________________________
"What do you think the guys will want?" Ginny asks.
We had finished shopping for all the girls. It was pretty easy actually, but I also wanted to find something for Professor Danielle. That was the tricky part.
Now we started to shop for the guys, something that would be even trickier.
"Nevermind just the boys, what about Draco?" I ask. "He has everything!"
Pansy and Astoria shrug, which is really helpful (note the high level of sarcasm dripping from my words) .
I sigh. "Great."
Danielle looks over me, curiously. "You should give him tutoring in Muggle Studies, he's not doing so well on the 'Women: Role and Lifestyle' unit." Her eyes widen. "Don't tell anybody I said that."
I giggle. "Naturally not."
"Let's head into Quality Quidditch Supplies right now," Lavender suggests.
"We have an hour until our lunch reservation at the icecream parlour," Luna notes.
Astoria brushes some hair behind her ear. "Well we should be able to finish by then, right?"
I bite at my lower lip. "I think so."
We head into Quality Quidditch Supplies and I'm immediately jostled around by excited shoppers.
"Whoa!" Ginny gasps. When a teenage boy rams into her and glares at her, she snaps. "Watch it, The Chosens One's child is in my stomach and if you hit me one more time, he'll have your head!" She yells. Instantly a clear path appears between the shoppers from the doorway to the center of the shop.
"Thank you!" Ginny sings songs. She proceeds to skip through the path, looking expectantly at her behind her shoulders. "Well, come on now!"
I nervously shoulder my way past the closing path. "Excuse me," I call. "Coming through!"
When we finally make it to the back of the shop, the amount of people thins out so we're the only ones there.
Ginny starts looking at new brooms. "Ooh! A Nimbus 2,500!" She pulls it off the shelf and examines it. "Nice!"
I look over the broom, trying as hard as I possibly could, but to me, it just looked like a broom.
"Remember," Danielle reminds us. "Fifty minutes before we have to head to lunch."
Instantly, the other girls rush all over the place, picking up their purses and moving their feet faster than should be physically possible.
I just kind of wand around, not very sure what to do.
My eye catches a book in the corner of the room. It was on the floor and looked like it was kicked around a bit.
'All my moves and how to do them: Viktor Krum.' I gasp.
"Like it?" Somebody asks from behind me.
"Eep!" I spin around and see a middle aged man wearing a uniform standing behind me. He pushes his glasses up his nose.
"Viktor Krum only ever made twenty copies, all handwritten," The shop owner informs me. "Would you like that?"
I pause, thinking about it. This would be a great gift for one of the guys....
"Yes," I confirm. "How much?"
He shrugs. "Make a claim," He offers.
I squint at the book, trying to determine a good price. "200 galleons."
He looks a bit surprised, probably by the high amount. I reach into my purse to get some galleons, and my entire arm feels cool with the touch of metal. I blush a bit and dump a pile of galleons. It looked like quite a bit, so I just shrugged. "That much."
"Th-thank you, Miss!" The shop owner exclaims. "Have a nice day!"
I wave at him and find my friends. "Buy anything?" Pansy asks.
I hold up the book. "This," I turn the book around. "Anyways, we should move on."
"Thirty more minutes!" Astoria informs us, already rushing towards the door. "Let's go!"
________________________________________________________________________________
I took a seat at the waiting booth and sighed. I had five large bags so far, and we hadn't even started dress shopping! We had literally just arrived at our first destination.
"Welcome, I'm Madame Malkin, how may I help you all?" Madame Malkin walks into view. She had a fabric rules around her neck, loose hanging black robes and black leather shoes.
"We need custom corset dresses for Auntie Cissa's New Year's party," Pansy says.
Madame Malkin gasps. "All of you?"
Danielle clears her throat. "Not me, Madame,"
I snort. "Nonsense! You can come too!"
She laughs softly. "That's very kind of you, but I'm sure Narcissa wouldn't like me just barging in."
Astoria shakes her head. "She actually loves surprise guests."
Danielle bites her lip. "I suppose it wouldn't hurt to get the dress..." She turns to look at me. "But please make sure she knows?"
I nod my head. "Of course!"
"Alright now," Madame Malkin leads us to a room in the back. "My assistant will help those who I'm not with." She snaps her fingers and six figures apparate into view.
A stunning brunette with dark blue eyes looks at me. "Hello," He greets. He puts a hand out. "I'm Brandon and I'll be helping you today."
I shake his hand, and his skin is warm. I smile. "Hello, Brandon."
Brandon waves me over to a small block in a medium sized changing room. He draws the curtain and turns me towards the mirror. "Stand on it," He instructs, pointing at the block.
I step up on the block and he looks me over thoroughly. "Alright, what are you looking for?"
"A corset dress for Narcissa's New Year's party," I tell him. "Though not a ballgown, like a party dress."
He nods and lifts my arms up, looking closely at every curve of my body. I blush a bit.
"You have a wonderful figure Miss Granger, though you will need to take off your clothes" He compliments me. "Any colour preferences?"
I shake my head, letting him slip off my pants and shirt leaving me in just my bra and underwear. "No not really, though I am a Gryffindor who will be marrying a Slytherin."
The cool air hits my skin, leaving trails of goosebumps across my arms, legs, and stomach.
Brandon clicks his tongue against the roof of his mouth. "Berry red then," He decides.
Brandon walks away and returns with an armful of an array of fabrics, sequins, rhinestones, threads and needles.
"Let's get started, shall we?" He pulls a bright red fabric and wraps it around my waist. He waves his wand with his left hand and instantly, the materials come to life. I gasp.
"Magic, isn't it?" He teases me.
I giggle. "Oh, it's so wondrous!!"
He smiles and wraps a plain white corset around my waist. "What colour would you like this?"
Hmmmm, I could do green but that would be too tacky...Blue? No... but just maybe...perhaps....
"Black," I respond to him. "Make the theme red and black."
He nods. "Of course. Close your eyes..."
He shuts my eyes by placing a hand over, and I let my eyes flutter closed, placing all my faith into him for this dress.
"So, sequins?" He asks. I feel fabrics around my chest tighten.
"Nn-NO!" I blurt.
He loosens the fabric. "Rhinestones? Rosettes?"
"Surprise me," I answer.
I hear the flutter of fabric and a lot of small 'pangs' around the bottom and top of the dress.
"Alright, can do." Brandon slides his hands over my waist and hips. "Hope you don't mind..."
I squeeze my eyes tighter together, determined not to think about the gorgeous brunette's hands running all over me. "Not at all!" I say with very breathy words.
"Lace? Black lace," He asks, touching his fingers to what I would assume to be the hem.
"Definitely," I giggle.
He mutters something under his breath and I feel the fabric rustle into place.
"Done," Brandon announces. "Open your eyes!"
I slowly open my eyes and look into the mirror.
"Whoa!" I gasp.
The dress was a bright berry red with black accents. The corset sitting on my waist was black with matching red ribbons. Black lace lines the hems and there were little heart-shaped red rhinestones.
"It's...gorgeous!" I compliment his dress-making skills. "You're very talented!"
"I had a wonderful canvas," He thanks me. Brandon bows. "I believe my work here is done."
He disappears with a 'pop' and I wave my wand to change back into my normal clothes.
I carefully place the gorgeous little number in the garment bag hanging on the hook on the right side.
I walk out and see my friends waiting for me, including Danielle. Outside from the window, I can see that it's getting a bit cooler and the sun is slowly dipping down.
Glancing over at the clock, I take note that we were here for...THREE COMPLETE HOURS!?
"Ready, 'Mione?" Ginny asks. She stands up and wobbles a bit. "Two more dresses!"
I giggle. "We have to pay first!"
She smiles at me. "You know what I mean."
________________________________________________________________________________
"Come on 'Mione!" Pansy drags me along.
We had just excited Madame Malkins and now we were going on to dress number two. Out of three!
"Over the river and through the woods!" Luna sing songs, skipping ahead.
"To Twilfit and Tattings we go!" Astoria finishes, giggling slightly.
I snort. "That's a muggle rhyme."
"That Harry taught me so I taught them." Ginny explains, pulling the door to Twilfit and Tattings.
"Miss Parkinson! Miss Greengrass!" A young woman calls.
They smile and wave politely. "Hello, Mrs. Huckielle!"
Daneille blushes and steps forward a bit. "Mother," She greets.
"Danielle!" Mrs. Huckielle cries. She runs over and hugs her daughter. "How is Hogwarts!"
Danielle smiles. "It's perfect mother."
Mrs. Huckielle smiles. "Well, what are you lovely ladies here for today?"
"We need two dresses," Lavender explains, smiling slightly. "One for the Hogwarts party and one for a large Christmas party."
Mrs. Huckielle nods. "Well then, would you like custom or do you want to look around and make adjustments?"
"I'll look around first," I offer. "No need to fix what isn't broken."
I heft my bags over my shoulder and walk towards the left wall, where a lot of middle length dresses hang.
Damn, I think. Everything looks so...expensive!
I shuffle through racks and racks of dresses, all full of jewels, lace, and satin. Chiffon dresses swayed as I pushed them around.
I reject dress after dress, and slowly, my hope and holiday cheer starts to fade. Was I ever going to find a dress!?
My eyes caught sight of a gorgeous newspaper designed dress. It was a mini dress with spaghetti straps, and would hug by bodice completely. The material was an extremely pale golden colour with black headings and articles. Pink outlines were around each "newspaper" and added colour to the beautiful and unique little number.
This one, I nod to myself, clucking my tongue happily. For the Hogwarts party. Now...I just need to get something for Christmas...
I drape the newspaper dress over my left arm and head to another section of the store titled 'Christmas Cheer', and start looking.
I don't need to impress anybody at the Weasley's Christmas...
"Need help?" Astoria siddles up next to me holding two dress bags.
I gasp. "Already done?"
She giggles. "We've been here for two hours, so of course!"
I sigh. "Yeah, I just need a dress for the Weasley's party."
Astoria snaps her fingers in a 'Z', "I got you, girl!"
She pulls me over to a section of dark green dresses. "Draco would love this!" She giggles, rifling through.
"Of course he would, it's green!" I laugh. I randomly pull out a dress.
It was a dark green satin, fit and flare, halter top dress. The skirt of it would most likely go down to my knees, and would flare out if I span around. There was a little holly berry design on the right shoulder.
"Wear some red heels, and you'll look like a goddess!" Astoria gasps.
I nod my head. "I suppose it is rather nice..." I go to check the price tag but Astoria slaps a hand over my eyes.
"Don't you dare!" She grabs the green dress and the newspaper dress from my hands, and snatchess the purse from me.
"Hey!" I lunge at Astoria, but she was already skipping to the check out station, giggling away with Pansy.
I shake my head heartily, laughing at my friends sillines. "What ever would we do without each other?"
________________________________________________________________________________
Danielle stops by the door to our portrait. "Here we are, lovely ladies!" Even though she tries to sound enthusiastic, I can tell she's as tired as the rest of us.
"Mmmm," Ginny mumbles. She slouches against the wall. "UniTy!" She cries, yawning a bit.
The portrait swings open and Danielle waves goodbye, awkwardly stumbling across the hall with five bags per hand.
I lazily put one foot in front of the other, just barely making it into the common room before I hear screaming.
"GOD DAMMIT WHERE WERE YOU ALL!" Harry rushes to the door and takes bags from Ginny's hands.
"Shhhhhhhhhh-hopping." Pansy groans, resting into the large velvet chair by the fire place.
"So...tired..." Luna yawns.
"Obviously, it's eleven!" Neville scolds us.
I smile lazily. "Oooh! Make a wish in elven girls!"
We all giggle before yawning again. Fatigue started to take over me, and I was aware of my body starting to slump towards the floor, but I did nothing.
"Whoa there," A strong pair of arms grabbed me from under my arms. "Let's get you upstairs."
I slump against the warm body behind me and inhale a now extremely familiar scent. "Mmm, night Draco." I sniff his collar. "Definitely Draco."
"Alright, give me your bags." He instructs, moving to take them. I let the bags slide off my arms, landing on the floor with a soft 'tsch, clink'.
"Alright, put an arm around my neck," Draco moves one of his arms around my waist. I feel the bags hit my body, but I do as he says.
I let my eyes flutter closed and trust him to lead me upstairs.
'Creeeaaaaak', goes the door. Draco puts the bags down and carries me onto the bed. "Night, Hermione."
"Mmm," I agree. "Night...Draco..."
