"I-I...I'm alone, they h-hate me for it. I'm an outcast'' whispered Keith and then wrapped his arms around himself.
"Well...you're not alone anymore, come over here" Matt said and Shiro watched as Keith looked at Matt. Shiro could see that Keith was very unsure if he could actually trust Matt and not get hurt but then he glanced over at Shiro and once Shiro smiled, Keith smiled and joined them. And that was the start of the three of them as very close friends.
------------------------------------------------
The others were watching as they could sadly see that Keith didn't know them or trust them and that lack of trust came from all of those in his life time who have broken it, broken it way too much.
Keith turned towards Shiro and noticed something he didn't before. He slowly reached out towards his big brother and his fingertips brushed against Shiro's scar on the bridge of his nose. Then he glanced up and reached up to the white of Shiro's hair but didn't touch it, pulling his hand away, looking at his big brother with both worry and concern written in his big, glassy violet eyes.
"What happened?" asked Keith, the concern heavy in his voice.
"Nothing you need to worry about now" said Shiro and smiled down at his brother.
"But you're hurt" whispered Keith who looked at Shiro for a moment then down to his hands in his lap. "It's not my fault is it?" questioned Keith. Shiro's eyes widen at that.
Keith had the tenecisy to always think things were his fault because that how it was punched into him. Everything was his fault, he made everything worst just by being there, he was a burden to all, a waste of space, nothing good. So it sadden Shiro to hear that question, for he had done so much over the years to get Keith to learn that not everything was his fault. Keith believed him sometimes but Shiro knew that deep down that hurt, that thought of always being the problem and at fault never truly went away.
"No Keith, it isn't your fault. Okay?" asked Shiro and all Keith did was nod his head, not looking up at Shiro. Shiro sighed and gently laid his human hand upon Keith's shoulder. Keith looked up at him and Shiro could read his eyes very clearly, they were asking him to tell him but Shiro just couldn't do that. So he shook his head 'no' and Keith shook his hand off of his shoulder as if he had just been hurt. Keith then turns to look over at the others.
"Matt?" questioned Keith and Pidge looked at the ground. Lance and Hunk's eyes widen and glanced between Pidge and Keith. "Matt, what's going on? Why won't you look at me? I...I did something...didn't I-I..." said Keith as his voice cracked and a single tear ran down his face. Pidge looked up then and slowly made their way over towards him. Before she said anything, Pidge glanced up over at Shiro and she hoped that he could see what was held within her eyes.
"I'm....I'm not Matt" said Pidge and at that, Keith's head shot up and he looked so very confused.
"Wh-What do y-you mean you're not Matt? Who...Wh-Who...what?" said Keith and moved farther away from everyone, including Shiro. Shiro could see it, the trust in Keith's eyes fading away and being replaced by fear.
"Keith-" began Shiro but Keith pushed himself off and stumbled towards the doors. The others tried to get him to calm down and stay but it was very clear in Keith's eyes, he was going to run, for that he thought that he knew them, thought he knew Matt and Shiro but his heart was crushing with the thought of that he really didn't know them, that maybe it was something he said or did but whatever it was they didn't care about him as much as he thought they did, and so he ran. He ran out of the room, out into the castle which he had no memory of whatsoever.
Shiro sighed. He so badly wanted to rush after Keith but he recognized that look upon his brother's face. He was stuck in his fear and on the edge of a panic attack and if you chased after him, it would only make things worst. Shiro knew this from experience.
--------------------------------------------------------
Keith rushed down hallways he never seen and knew nothing about where he was going, he just felt like he had to escape from them and everything. Keith's head a pounding and aching with so much confusion mixed it. 'What was happening?' Keith wondered as he kept running until he felt somewhat safe and able to breathe.
All of a sudden he felt an earth cover him and a rumble within his mind. Keith froze where he was at for this was all new stuff to him, especially this warm feeling of being alright and loved. He knew that when he was with his brother shiro he felt a warmness within him because shiro saved his life more times than hr could count plus he absolutely loved him and shiro always had his back no matter what. But this warmth was similar but also very different. It covered his whole self and sent a calmness over him.
"Cub." said a kind voice in his head which made Keith a little more nervous cause he had no idea what was happening, was he losing his mind finally. But a piece of him completely relaxed at the voice and knew deep down he could trust it, he didn't know why but he did, he trusted it.
The warmness and love continued to grow around and in Keith as he listened to this unknown voice. What the voice said confused him even further because it was a talking lion who was red, like what? But Keith felt safe with it and put his full trust within it, something he has ever did and if so only once or twice in his whole life.
He listen and then followed the red lion's directions back to the place he escaped from only moments ago.
The doors opened up before him and Keith could see all that were there before, still there but a huge sense of worry filled the air, making it hard to breathe and almost sending Keith back out the door. However the voice of the lion told him to go on, that his brother will be there for him and help him through this. And so he trusted the voice of the lion and entered the room. No one said anything for a bit as Keith made his way back to the cot he was previously on. His violet eyes met his big brother's grey eyes and for a second all time seemed to freeze. Keith recognized who they belonged to but felt like he didn't know the person that stood in front of him with those eyes that sent waves of kindness towards him.
Keith took a deep breath and sat down.
"Shiro?" Questioned Keith and shiro nodded his head 'yes' sending a bit of calming energy to him.
"Keith, these guys are here to help you" said Shiro but could still see the look of concern deep within Keith's purple eyes.
"How...Shiro I'm fine'' said Keith as be began to sit up. As soon as he did he placed his hand upon his forehead for he suddenly just got a bad headache. Keith opened his eyes and looked over at the others and Shiro could see his mind working, trying to figure something out but he just didn't know what.
Keith then pushed his way far from Shiro's touch and glared at everyone, he crossed his arms over his chest and turned to face Shiro with a look in his eyes.
"We're not at The Garrison, are we?" asked Keith and Shiro shook his head 'no' ,for lying to Keith would be a whole new level of pain to Shrio, something he didn't want to add to the mix of all of this. Keith turned to face the others and then stood up and pointed at Pidge.
"You're not Matt right? You're...You're Katie aren't you?'' said Keith and Pidge sighed, pushed her glasses up on her face and slowly walked over towards where Keith was standing. But knowing the truth of his past, she didn't want to get too close to him just in case she being near him, set it off.
"It's Pidge actually now. And you're right, I'm not Matt and this isn't The Garrison..." spoke Pidge.
"Pidge-" Lance began but she waved him off into silence as she took step closer to Keith.
"You got hurt and your mind is mixed up and you don't remember somethings right now. But I'm not going to lie to you, okay? So you want to know everything?" Pidge said. Keith paused for a moment and looked back at Shiro, he could see in his big brother's eyes something that was telling him to trust Pidge's words but to also be careful of what he may learn about his here and now. Keith looked back at Pidge and nodded his head 'yes'. He wasn't afraid of taking a chance, his whole life has been one big chance.
"Okay, follow us" said Pidge as she began to leave the med bay. Keith froze where he was and watch the others slowly follow the little Matt. Keith looked over at Shiro, looking for both reassurance and comfort.
Everyone slowly walked into the training deck and before Lance could voice why they were here of all places he saw the head gear and knew that they were going to go through Keith's mind. Everyone sat down and Shiro handed Keith one of the head gears and nodded his head, telling him that it was alright.
Everyone sat in a circle with the head pieces on and then slowly closed their eyes.
At first everything was very blurry and moving around them all so quickly but finally one image came up clear, it was of Shiro, his parents and little Keith with a big smile on his face and a red balloon. A smile came across both Shiro's and Keith's faces for the both remembered this day when this photo was taken.
They were at the zoo, the very first time Keith had ever been to the zoo and he loved it, especially the hippos.
The image faded away and another one appeared. The paladins watched as Shiro drove through a rain storm, Keith sitting beside him with fear in his eyes but it soon disappeared when Keith recognized the building before them, it was the movie theater. Keith hated storms after what his foster parents did to him, that memory flashing in everyone's mind just as the lightning was in the blacken night sky.
Shiro would almost always take Keith to the movies or use his noise canceling headphones and just cuddle with him when it stormed outside. The movie theater was loud when the movies played and could easily block out the noise of the storm.
That memory faded as they watched Shiro and Keith enter the movie theater. After that memory, so many memories came flooding back, giving each paladin their own headache.
Keith gasped as his violet eyes shot up and he glanced around the training deck. He remembered everything. He was himself again. He turned to face Shiro and smiled at him before turning to face Pidge and give her the biggest hug he has ever given her. Pidge melted into his arms, for her brother was back and everything was right again.
"Hey, I know what we should do" said Hunk, causing everyone to look over at him. "We should all have a movie night together."
Before anyone could say no to the idea, Keith broke from his hug to Pidge and looked at Hunk. "That sounds nice" said Keith, getting a surprise look from Lance.
So everyone went into the lounge as Coran set the movie up. Keith laid his head against Shiro's shoulder and pulled the blanket that was wrapped around him much closer. The Pidge laid her head upon keith's lap and they all snuggled together as the weird Altean movie played before them.
