CHAPTER 6 : One Choice

MR.JANG's POV

As I left her room with an excuse, I went straight to Dr. Mike's cabin.

ME : So, is she never gonna get her memory back? She doesn't remember anything from the past 2 years.

I had a clear picture of the morning she mentioned earlier. After that particular day we, although continued to live under the same roof, never dined together until she tied knots with Taehyung and moved out.

Dr.MIKE : See, we cannot say anything for certain. We will just have to try and test a few things that might help. Her losing the information of two years is a brain mechanism to protect itself from a hurtful memory or a trauma that might've taken place around that time.

Probably having me with no words, the doctor spoke up again to help me around the diagnosis.

Dr.MIKE : So, do you recall any such  happenings with her?

I gave it a thought trying to remember if anything, according to him, had happened in her life.

Dr. MIKE : Like anything, anyone cheated on her or any misfortunes that had affected her like a trauma?

One thought did strike in my mind but I cancelled it out feeling it too trivial a matter to be traumatized about. I listened attentively as he continued further.

Dr. MIKE : Medically speaking, all her symptoms and reports directs her condition to be a Dissociative amnesia.

Although, his medical terminologies had no toning with my understanding. I had a rough knowledge on amnesia since the Korean doctor mentioned it too.

ME : The doctor in Korea said something about Post-traumatic amnesia. Are they the same thing?

Dr.MIKE : Oh no, they are not. Although, we did fear the same in her case. Watching her synchronized with her actions and words, there's no particular signs of Post-traumatic amnesia. Her's is related to a particular time from the past that she doesn't recall. Namely, Dissociative.

ME : Oh, I see.

Dr. MIKE : And fortunately is pointing towards the greater probability of reversing it.

ME : You are saying, it is possible to revive her memory?

Dr. MIKE : Not guaranteed, but yes, a possibility. As for that, she has to be constantly around familiar people and places from these years. In short, recreating the situations and incidents might actually help her.

Which I certainly didn't want till I got her patrimony on my hands. Although I knew it would cost me a few more years and hard work to castle her from being exposed to her memories, I was ready to take it through the end.

ME : Thanks for your time, Doctor. (-leaves with a smile-)

Exiting his cabin, only one thought repeated like a prayer verse in my mind- she can't get her memories back.

Everything, from executing my plan to manipulating the people involved, went smoother than expected. Her memory loss of those 2 years was just a golden opportunity for me to never get her cross paths with Taehyung.

Truth to be told, when she was brought to the hospital in Korea, Doctors had knowledged me about her potential amnesia. Basing on that sole fact, I took the risk to set them apart and it came out fruitful.

A sense of relief rushed down my spine as the plan-B didn't require its commencement which was alot more severe and inhumane.
The plan to trigger her psyche by medicating her with excess drugs, making her lose connection with reality- perhaps transpiring her into a psychiatric patient, a shamefully common medical condition in every other household in today's competition.

I bought some snacks on my way back to her room. The moment I entered, I noticed she closed her eyes and loosened her body abnormally on the bed. I ran to her and tried waking her up, immediately calling for the nurses next.

After sometime, she was stable yet unconscious and the doctor said it was because of a shock resulting due to the critical brain surgeries, she has undergone.

Random thoughts like, how I flew her to America 3 months ago. How I managed to get Taehyung's father on my side. And how it all went the way I had planned— crossed my mind as I stared at her calm face.

~FLASHBACK(On the day of accident)~

I was doing the regular house chores when I got a call. It was Jae Ra's father-in-law saying she got into an accident and was taken to the hospital.
I sure had bitter feelings for her but never wished for her death. Afterall she had the family blood running in her veins that I shared too.

I rushed to the hospital to find her in-laws not arrived by then and waited for the doctors to come out from the operation theater.

After an hour, the doctor came out removing his mask with a sigh while there was still no news from her in-laws.

DOCTOR : Are you her guardian? (-looking at me-)

ME : (-nodding-) Yes, how is she? (-worried-)

DOCTOR : Please come with me.

I nodded and followed him.

.

.

I took my leave after having the talk with the doctor. I was thoroughly analyzing his words as I walked back in a slow pace.

Going to her room, I found her in-laws beside the unconscious her and Mrs.Kim caressing her cheeks lightly.

Mrs. KIM : (-looking at me-) Where is my grandson? What did the doctors say?

ME : (-formally-) He is under observation today. You cannot see him now. He will be released by tomorrow.

Mrs. KIM : Oh dear lord, what is happening with my kids! (-looking back at Jae ra-)

I was lost in the maze of thoughts that had been rushing ever since I left the doctor's cabin. Contemplating over it a few more times, I finally arrived at a conclusion and I called Mr.Kim to secretly meet me.

I was facing the glass window on a deserted corridor with the soft shades of sun beams falling inside. Caught up with the plan I was knitting, I did not register Mr. Kim's arrival until he spoke.

Mr. KIM : What is it that you wanted to talk privately?

ME : (-turning around and speaking after a short silence-) You wanted your son to marry that business man's daughter, didn't you?

Mr.KIM : (-intensifying his forehead-) Yes, but why are you talking about that all of a sudden? It has been quite long since that matter.

ME : Well, if I say you can still get him married to her. How would like that?

Mr. KIM : What do you mean?

ME : This is the chance. Your son is not here and Jae Ra got into an accident. Perfect time to get them separated.

Mr. KIM : What are you planning?

ME : I will take Jae ra to America.

Mr.KIM : And how would that help? Do you think, my son won't try to find out about her?

ME : There's where your work starts. Jae Ra had a very serious accident, so you just gotta tell your son that she died in it.

Mr.KIM : (-flustered-) What?!

ME : One choice of yours can make both of our dreams come true.

He seemed perplexed however took no time to give in. Mr.Kim looked up again and spoke out his conditions only to lessen my burden.

Mr. KIM : But, we'll keep his son. You can't take him away.

ME : (-sighs-) Fine. But, you cannot tell your son that he is alive. If you do, you can't make your son into marrying the girl of your choice, if you know what I mean.

He nodded with an evil smirk as he was now on the same lane I tried walking him through.

ME : But, keep this between us. This truth should never reach anyone apart from the two of us. Everyone should know the truth you tell your son.

Mr.KIM : (-nodding-) Okay, but what about Jae Ra? How will you stop her from coming back?

ME : (-smirk-) Leave that to me. Dr.Shin already gave the answer to your questions.
