Ch.16 Underneath The Moon

During the evening meal most, if not all, the discussion was focused upon Chase and Skye's unannounced visit.

While the four newly introduced canines tried retaining whatever information they could from Chase who was not giving it up easily, Skye used this spare time to deliberate her current situation.

Looking around the table she studied Chase's old companions. Skye was able to pick up on some things right off the bat. Even if she has shown up less than an hour ago.

Bubblegum: "You have to tell us everything Chase! I-We deserve to know! You had me-I mean us scare to death! It's the least you could do! 'Not now' is all you're gonna say?!"

Whitepaws: "Wait, how do we know this is the real Chase? He could be a clone, zombie, a shapeshifter, or all of them combined!"

Frozen: "I don't feel like proving you wrong right now Whitepaws. I'm still trying to figure out how 1,825 days 22 hours 18 minutes and 4 seconds go by without a sign of his existance until now."

Clyde: "Let the guy eat in peace or he might take it to go and run away again." He chuckled.

Bear: "..."

Pointing out the obvious, all of them were German Shepherd mixes. However, their physical appearances made each individual so distinct. It was mostly the second breed they were mixed with that others used to tell them apart from one another.

Bubblegum with her little sister Bear, were both mixed with Rottweiler, Whitepaws is part Pitbull, Frozen is half Miniature Pinscher, and Clyde has Golden Retriever in him.

To tell Bubblegum and Bear from each other, besides age and height, were their ears positions. Bubblegum's were straight and pointed, while Bear's were floopy, facing down. Don't let the simliar outside look of the sisters fool you. On the inside they are polar opposites.

Most of the friends in the clique contradict someone else in group anyways. Each one had unalike personalities of their own, but somehow they all balanced well together.

In short, Bubblegum is brutally honest, saying whatever is on her mind, she has thick skin, and is a strict motherly figure believing she always knows best. But she means well, she just finds it difficult to show affection and even if she does, she ends up denying it. This female is more of a tom boy, and because of that she's received hate for not acting more "feminine". Whenever it's brought up she can become defensive about it.

Next is Whitepaws who is a bit cocky with his muscular advantage, which is why he'll always prefer action for anything. He recognizes common sense, yet on the other hand he isn't the smartest either, not stupid but not easily understood. Also he feels like it's a must to always have his tough guy demeanor, whatever the case may be he'll want to prove how manly he can handle things.

Then there is Frozen, she was very bright mentally with out-of-the-box thinking. She had a handful of knowledge of almost everything. Consequently, she might tend to overthink the obvious and can get carried away with her notions from time to time. Frozen dislikes ignorant people who have no facts to back up what they say. Some dislike her since she can make a lot of people uncomfortable when her curiousity gets the best of her.

Summarizing Clyde was simple, he could put a smile on anyone's face. The only thing he loved more than laughing was making others laugh along with him. A downside was his impatient nature and being overly sensitive, taking things too personal at times was a bad quality of his. Furthermore, contrary to Whitepaws who dives head first into danger, Clyde is all bark no bite.

Lastly, the youngest one there, Bear. A pure soul, with her close friends she was caring, sweet, and very understanding. If you needed to have a deep conversation or just someone to vent to it was her you would go to and she'll tell you what you needed to hear. With strangers though, they only saw her as quiet and extremely shy, barely able to say more than a full sentence.

After Skye's inspection she pondered how would they describe her? Normal? Only another friend associated with Chase?

Don't get her wrong they seem like an amazing circle of friends it's just she couldn't shake the feeling of being ordinary.

Was she any different in a special type of way? Was she unique at all? Her thoughts could've spiraled out of control if she continued. Luckily, they were put on pause when an external voice called out.

Chase: "Everyone it's late. I'm not in the mood to explain myself yet. Maybe tomorrow."

Dinner talk was over and done with when that was declared. All the excitement had finally settled down from the bizzare event when the seven canines started feeling the affects the night brought.

When all the food on the plates vanished the Rottweiler and German Shepherd mix stood tall in front of the cluster of dogs. It was Bubblegum geting everyone's attention as she directed the rountine for the entire group, including the two guests.

Bubblegum: "The guys will have the bedroom on the left and the girls will be in the room on the right."

Whitepaws: "What? Come on why?"

Bubblegum: "Boundaries." She simply stated with eyes narrowed.

Whitepaws: "Fine, you go have your girly sleepover."

Bubblegum: "Girly?!" She growled.

Frozen: "Whatever you think we're going to do, we're not. Just for your information Whitepaws."

Bubblegum: "And not all girls need to act 'girly'." She snapped at him.

Clyde: "Whoa, that escalated quickly."

Chase: "I'm sure he didn't mean it like that."

Bubblegum: "If you say so."

Frozen: "Boys will be boys I guess. Let's go gals."

The males watched as Bubblegum and Frozen stormed out, rushing Skye down to the dorm, while Bear tagged along from behind.

Bear: "Wait for me!" She shrieked.

Chase: "Um heh, goodnight Skye!"

Before she was ushered out of the dining room Skye smiled uncomfortably saying night back to him, because this was apparently amusing to see.

Clyde: "We may as well go to our room too guys."

Whitepaws: "Was it something I said?" He said baffled.

Chase and Clyde looked at each other then laughed at how clueless their friend was while they heading to their selected room.

With Skye

Frozen: "I wonder if Whitepaws thinks every girl is and\or acts the same. He gets on my nerves sometimes."

Bubblegum: "You think by now we would be use to him saying ridiculous stuff like that." She scoffed with a smirk. "Dummy."

Frozen: "Anyways, Skye feel free to freshen up in the bathroom around the corner, straight down the hall, in the room next to the place we ate. If you see a door that leads you outside that means you went too far." She spoke while opening the enterway to their resting quarters.

Once the door was unlocked they all step into a bedroom where used cushions and a twin sized mattress was placed at the center. Bare grey walls except for the hand made lanterns that hung with fireflies inside it for the purpose of light.

There was also windows, but both of them were mostly covered with nailed down wooden boards.

A pile of gadgets, items, and necessities in the corner. Some were scattered about, but besides those, the area looked unhabited.

Skye: "Uh sure, I could use a shower right about now."

Bear: "You should wait."

Skye: "Why?"

Bear: "For warm water."

Skye: "Oh, right. Thank you."

The younger Rottweiler and German Shepherd mix smiled sweetly as she set off to turn the water on for Skye.

Bubblegum: "In the meantime, mind answering some questions?"

Skye: "Well it dep-."

Bubblegum: "Good. First question, how did you met Clyde? Was he goofing off again?"

Frozen: "Bubblegum he was on patrol so the encounter was plausible by that logic."

Bubblegum: "I didn't ask you Frozen and it's always logic with you."

Frozen: "Hey someone has to be the smart one in this clan."

Bubblegum: "I'm smart!" She snarled.

Frozen: "Street smarts doesn't count in this case."

Bubblegum: "Smart mouth." She said with her brows narrowed at the know it all.

At that moment Bear stepped back into the room.

Frozen: "Okay, I have a better question to ask, if you don't mind Skye."

Skye: "Uh, go for it I guess."

Frozen: "How did you get on this island?"

Skye: "By a raft...?" She giggled nervously at how dumb that must've sounded. "I mean, in all honesty I just followed Chase."

Frozen: "Um, interesting. What about where did you come from?"

Skye: "Well I don't know if Chase is okay with me telling you that. He was a bit reserved about it."

Bubblegum: "He'll tell us eventually you might as well."

Skye: "All I'm going to say is I'm from another island called Adventure Bay."

It's as if Skye said she was from another planet, one that was never heard of or anyone had any knowledge of. Even Frozen was stumped.

Bear: "There's more?"

Frozen: "Fascinating. This explains you having no German Shepherd DNA. Everyone on these islands are a German Shepherd or a German Shepherd mix. That makes you rare and stand out from the rest of us."

Bubblegum: "That sneaky hound! Of course we couldn't find him! Chase wasn't in any of the places we looked since he wasn't even here!"

Frozen: "See Skye, Concealed islands are...well...concealed. It's so isolated that people here, including us, didn't consider there being other islands."

Skye: "Does that mean Chase found Adventure Bay by accident?"

Frozen: "We we were hoping you would know all the answers."

Bubblegum: "Do you at least know why he left Trustem?"

Skye: "No, Chase never told me. But I'm sure he had his reasons, he wouldn't just leave all of you."

From experience she knew leaving the PAW patrol wasn't an easy thing for Chase to do. He left Adventure Bay for personal reasons last time, so Chase could have had the same or similiar motives.

Skye: "I wish I could be more help, sorry. I don't even know why he returned here, As I said before I only went after him."

Frozen: "Well I'm out of questions at the moment. You got any Bear?"

The silent pup shakes her head from left to right and remains mute for a while longer.

Bubblegum: "I know! Why don't you explain your cheesy relationship with Chase?"

The butterflies were back in Skye's stomach.

Skye: "M-My r-relationship with C-Chase?"

Bubblegum: "Uh yeah, that's what I just said."

Frozen: "Bubblegum! Try and understand Skye here might want to keep that matter of topic private."

Skye exhaled a breath she didn't know she was holding in until she let it go.

Those few seconds made Skye feel vulnerable while her face burned red.

Frozen: "But I am a bit curious myself. So spill! Are both of you a couple?"

Skye: "We're a couple of friends." She said trying to avoid any in depth details.

But clearly it wasn't going to work for long since the other three females showed faces that they were not convinced in the slightest.

Frozen: "Oh girl don't think we haven't noticed."

Skye: "I-...noticed what?"

Bear: "The genuine smiles."

Bubblegum: "The long stares both of you try to hide."

Frozen: "The surrounding atomsphere of happiniess!" She squealed in excitement.

Skye: "F-Friends can do that stuff."

Bubblegum: "Not as intense as you two."

Skye: "I mean...yes we have history..." She said blushing madly.

Frozen & Bear: "Awwww."

Bubblegum: "Obviously." She smirked with an eye roll. "I don't know what you see in him, but whatever."

Frozen: "You can't choose who you love or like Bubblegum, you should understand that by now."

Bubblegum: "That's different."

A voice just then echoed in Skye's mind.

Why him?

By now Skye should know specifically why, she asked that same question over a billion times herself. There has to be a shorter response than what she believes to be the right answer.

Skye: "I like him because he's smart, funny, nice, loyal, and not that it really matters but he's good looking too. Chase is everything I ever wanted in a guy. The perfect guy for me is something I use to say. In a way he made me feel like I was special or perfect. Together...we were perfect for and to each other." She said with a huge smile stuck on her face.

Bubblegum: "Dang, and I thought others had it bad."

Bear: "It's adorable."

Frozen: "I knew there was something between the two of you so passionately. I may not know exactly how you got here, but I now know why."

Skye: "Because I followed him...?"

Frozen: "You followed him for a reason. You wanted to be with him. Both physically and romatically."

Emptiness filled the Cockapoo's body and her cheerful facial expression changed dramatically fast.

Skye: "But we can't romatically. It's not like that anymore."

Bear: "Why not?"

There was a moment of silence before Skye answered with a heavy sigh and rue in her voice.

Skye: "I made a mistake. We're over."

Bubblegum: "Yeahhhhh no, he still likes you and he knows it. We all know it. The only one who doesn't completely believe it is you."

Skye: "M-Maybe, I don't know! Even if he does, it won't be like before I made the mistake. I doubt he still feels the same kind of feeling he felt back when we were happily dating."

Bear: "Do you?"

Skye: "Feel the exact same? Well...um...I-I think the shower is ready."

Quickly and without warning the poodle mix got up in a hurry to escape the room. She didn't know what came over her, maybe it was the confrontations, she just needed to get out of there. Her vision started getting blurry because tears started approaching the corners of her eyes as she walked.

Before Skye even got the chance to reach for the door she felt someone's tight grip on her arm.

Bubblegum: "Listen, everybody makes mistakes so don't you dare blame yourself for that! I'm no relationship expert and I'm not pretending to be, but there's this thing that will keep two people together. No matter how much they hurt you, or how many mistakes both of you make, or even the ridiculous stuff y'all have to put up with in between. It's this thing called love."

When she was done she let go of Skye. Immediately the Cockapoo opened then shut the door on her way out. Going to where the sound of running water was. She had a lot to think about.

With Chase

The area the males were staying in was similar to the females. Instead of used cushions they had pillows and plenty of blankets.

Also one less window. It hardly matter since it's length took up the space of two windows. They had lanterns too, but most of their light came from a large opening in the window.

Not so long ago Whitepaws torn down one of the panels that was placed over the window orginally, so they could use some daylight. He was warned about it since it was there for protection. He remarked saying he could protect himself. Just in case though, he left a few planks up.

Whitepaws: "So Chase where were you hiding all this time?"

Chase: "Underground." He joked.

Whitepaws: "Really?! I knew it! Oh, wait sarcasm...yup, you're Chase alright."

Clyde: "You had doubts?"

The look on Whitepaws's face had a suggested 'Really? How could I not?' expression to it.

Clyde: "Come on! I wouldn't bring a stranger right to our doorstep!"

He turned his head away and muttered under his breath.

Clyde: "The other times didn't count. I really thought they had at least something to do with Chase's disappearance."

Whitepaws: "I'm just saying, you let your emotions get the best of you sometimes."

Chase: "Heh, both of us do. That's nothing new."

Clyde: "So following my heart and guts instead of my head sometimes is bad?" He said ignoring Chase's comment.

Chase: "It's risky." He mumbled.

Clyde: "Whitepaws, you barely use your head. And you can try to hide your emotions, but I know you have all kinds of emotions when you're around Bubblegum."

Whitepaws: "You better shut your mouth." He snapped. "You think she heard that?"

Chase: "Wait Whitepaws you still haven't told her?"

Whitepaws: "Hey I've tried, and tried, and tried again. But I get the feeling she doesn't feel the same way I guess. I don't know why though I'm amazing!"

Chase: "The only way to know how she really feels about you is by asking her."

Whitepaws: "Not true. I could read her mind."

Clyde: "He's got a point." He said looking at Chase, holding in a grin.

Chase: "Okay, but Whitepaws you physically can't do that."

Clyde: "He's got a point too." He said moving his head to look at Whitepaws.

Whitepaws: "Dang it, he's got me there."

Chase: "Nevermind that. You said you've tried telling her right?"

Whitepaws: "Yeah, I gave her a huge hint so I'm pretty sure she knows."

Chase: "But have you told her you specifically liked her?"

Whitepaws: "I mean...not those exact words."

Chase: "Oh boy, what did you say?"

Clyde: "He told her somewhere in this world there is someone out there that likes someone like her." He chimed in while grinning trying to keep himself from laughing.

Whitepaws: "Maybe I should play hard to get again." He said thinking out loud.

Chase: "That rarely works and why would you say that Whitepaws?"

Whitepaws: "That 'someone' is me! How did she not get that?"

Clyde: "Probably because 'in this world' doesn't narrow it down to you."

Chase: "And 'someone like her' isn't the best way to describe someone, quite offensive in the wrong way."

Whitepaws: "Well what would you guys have said?"

Clyde: "Look, saying you like someone is hard enough, but why did that someone have to be Bubblegum? I still don't know why you like her, she's a bit rude and ruthless to everyone."

Whitepaws: "I like a girl that's fierce. She's just sassy, not rude and whatever that other word means. It's her confidence, plus she's a fighter which is really cool, and wow...she's beautiful."

Clyde: "Are we talking about the same girl?" He laughed.

Whitepaws: "Shut up." He said nudging his pal's shoulder. "I can't decide who I like or who likes me back, hopefully she does though. But that's enough of this mushy love stuff."

Clyde: "Well for me I'd rather have a good sense of humor girl over a strong one any day. It would be nice to have someone who is hilarious, but deep when they need to be." He said not following Whitepaws request.

Whitepaws: "Ha good luck finding her."

Clyde: "It'll be easy. I'll tell one of my funniest jokes and see which girl laughs harder than anyone else."

Chase: "What if no one laughs?"

Clyde: "I doubt that." He smirked.

Whitepaws: "What about you Chase? You got a type?"

Chase: "Huh? Oh um I never thought about it that much, but I guess I like someone who is trustworthy...that's about it."

Clyde: "Now that's some high standards." He chuckled.

Whitepaws: "Ok I know looks don't matter but like...it wouldn't hurt if they were hot."

Clyde: "That's funny, what kind of hot girl would even talk to you Whitepaws?"

Whitepaws: "Hey! Not to brag, but I'm attractive myself."

Clyde: "That's even funnier!" He said cracking up.

While Whitepaws stood there not entertained at all, waiting for Clyde to catch his breath. Chase started thinking to himself.

Chase: "You still wanna know what I would've said or what you should've said Whitepaws?"

Whitepaws: "Yes! I'm never talking about stuff like this with Clyde again. I don't know what I could possibly say to her anymore."

Chase: "But that's the thing, you do. You're just afraid to say it."

Whitepaws: "I'm not afraid of anything!"

Clyde: "Then tell her what you told us." He said catching his breath.

Chase: "Yeah, maybe you're not completely afraid, but it sure looks like your intimidated by the idea of it."

Whitepaws: "Damn these feelings if only I could punch them. Then they would go away."

Clyde: "That wouldn't really help. You can't scare an emotion away."

Whitepaws: "But has anyone really tried? Like really really REALLY tried?"

Chase: "Regardless, even if it goes away or you scare it off or try and deny it...the feeling will come back eventually. You should accept it. They'll get tired of waiting for you eventually."

Both of his buddies looked at Chase with raised eyebrows in suspicion.

Clyde: "That's a little too accurate. How do you know so much about all this Chase?"

A scarlet color covered his cheeks and his eyes darted to the floor.

Chase: "Uh...you can say I had those same feelings for someone I've met." He made eye contact with them again. "But I really don't want to talk about it now, it's late."

Clyde: "Do we know this 'someone'?" He said intrigued, taking no notice of Chase's excuse.

Chase: "Under no circumstance." He slapped his forehead after he gave it away.

Whitepaws: "Soooo yes! You use those big words when you try to lie. That's right we still remember."

Chase: "Forget I said anything!"

Clyde: "Not a chance. So who exactly are you talking about? Or should we start naming names?"

Chase: "You guys don't know her that well, but you've met her."

Whitepaws: "It better not be Bubblegum man. I told you I have feelings for her."

Chase: "It's not anyone from our pack. And Bubblegum would be the last person I'd want."

Whitepaws: "Good...wait I mean how dare you!"

Clyde: "Is she on this island?"

Chase: "Okay! That's enough questions we should hit the hay."

Clyde: "I'm going to take that as a yes."

Whitepaws: "One last question then, come on!"

Chase: "Fine, what?" He said looking exhausted, only wanting to go to sleep to escape all the pressure on him.

Whitepaws: "Is the experience you have invovle that girl you brought here? I mean she seems looks like your type and not going to lie she is kinda cute."

Chase: "Back off." He demanded.

Whitepaws: "Whoa chill dude, I got Bubblegum. Worry about Clyde or something."

Clyde: "Don't drag me into this! But for the record I would never date my best friend's girl, that would mean I have issues."

Chase: "Stop, it's not like that! She's not my 'girl'. She was. But I'm the reason she isn't."

Whitepaws: "I'm not the only one confused right?"

Clyde: "Not this time. Let's rewind, we clearly missed some things."

Chase: "I'll leave out specific details. Basically, Skye and I dated in the past, but I broke us up because of something I couldn't handle. We are not a couple and I keep forgetting that. I should know we aren't together by now...but it's just..."

Whitepaws: "It's just...what?"

Chase: "I-I don't want to see her with anybody else. I can't. It's selfish I know...I'm sorry I shouldn't have gotten possessive like that."

Clyde: "Chase, well in your case, I don't think it's selfishness. I think it's love."

His heart pounded twice it's speed at the mere thought of the true meaning of that word.

Chase: "But...how? We've stopped being a couple a long time. My feelings should've moved on already."

Clyde: "Welp, it looks like they never left."

Chase: "So you're saying that even though she betrayed me which hurt me more than anything. I still love her?"

Whitepaws: "Love can hurt."

Clyde: "And when it hurts, that's when you know you really did love them..."

Chase reflected back to what happen between Skye and him. The reason he's been so motivated to get over her is only because of his trust issues. He doesn't forgive. Before they were even dating Skye told him she would tell him everything. Which meant no secrets between them.

Only for Chase to later find out that was a lie. Of course he felt betrayed from both his former best friend and former girlfriend. They knew he correlates trust with love. That's his mindset, he learned and grew up with it. Without a least a bit of trust there isn't any type of love.

Chase trusted Skye because he loved her, but she betrayed him, breaking his trust and his heart; his love. Therefore he shouldn't trust Skye anymore, so he shouldn't love her anymore either.

But...

Not only does he not want to move on, he feels like he can't. He has told himself over and over he shouldn't have feelings for Skye after what she's done, but how is he suppose to just stop?

Well Chase doesn't believe he can, but what other option does that leave him with? Going back to her? His trust issues prevents him from giving second chances, so being in a relationship with her again didn't seem reasonable. Plus what if she betrays him again?! That wouldn't only hurt him, it would destroy him.

It's the classic heart vs head at this point. His heart told him and is still telling him he overreacted, it wasn't Skye's fault Marshall manipulated her into lying to Chase. Her intentions were good, so it's okay. She only lied because she loved him and wanting them to be happy together.

However his brain refuses to change it's mind, quite literally. It keeps reminding Chase, Skye shouldn't have lied at all. She should've known he'd find out eventually so why take the risk? Every female he's met have betrayed him one way or another, that's the whole reason he has trust issues! So Chase should've known this wouldn't be any different. If she really did love him she wouldn't have betrayed him.

Oh, but Chase still loves her! And the confusing cycle continues once again! To sum it up again, he loved, he trusted, got heart broken, got betrayed. He shouldn't love her, but he does. But will he move on? That was Chase's whole dilemma.

Whitepaws and Clyde did make a valid point that did get through to Chase. Love CAN hurt and it has. There will be difficulties, arguments, fights, etc. Even for the small things. Despite all of that a loving and devoted couple makes it all work out in the end.

Chase: "It took me a while to get over her betrayal, but it'll take even longer for me to get over her. If I ever do."

Whitepaws: "Okay okay just one more question Chase please?"

Chase: "Is it about Skye?"

Whitepaws: "Of course it is!"

Chase: "Save it then."

Whitepaws: "I got to know though!"

The use-to-be police canine gave his friend an empty stare, but didn't object anything so the male speaking carried on.

Whitepaws: "Do you regret breaking up with her?"

In his head he's immediate answer, which was denial, didn't sound believable enough. Also they would know if he's lying.

Chase's best and some worst memories were spent with these same people.

Out of all the people his close friends are the ones who should know his privacy means a lot to him. He could trust these guys.

Chase: "Yes...now good night."

He turned away from them and was ready to settle in his poorly constructed bed when at the corner of his eye he saw a blurry figure zoom pass the hallway.

The door wasn't open all the way, but wasn't shut properly, with about five inches of space remaining from being completely closed.

If only Chase knew that passing by at that moment was Skye. She was afraid of getting caught outside the slightly open door so at the last second she sprinted away.

Her mind repeated his response like it was set on loop. The more she processed it the more her breathing became unsteady. It was as if a countdown began, something in her was going to burst with each step she took, further from him.

By the time Skye reached the bathroom tears rolled down her cheeks. This was great news though! Wasn't it? It didn't feel that way to her. She knew she heard it correctly I guess she found it to be too good to be true.

Looking in a cracked mirror she stared at her reflection for a while. She then smiled at herself before getting into the shower. She must have done something right.

Even though she wasn't suppose to hear it she was glad she did. It gave her hope and proved she could be different.

Chase has told her every female has betrayed him and according to him she has, but unlike those females she'll find a way to get his trust back and restore what they once had, love.

Back with Chase

The room was pitch black, everyone was silent, and the trio was laying down. All eyes were closed or beginning to close. Well all except for a certain Pit Bull mix.

Whitepaws: "Psst Chase!"

Chase: "Ugh what? I'm trying to sleep here." He murmured.

Whitepaws: "Bro to bro, uh what's up with you and Skye now?"

Chase's eyes flew open in a matter of seconds.

Whitepaws: "Like is it awkward?"

Chase: "Can you drop it already?"

Whitepaws: "Nah, look I've been thinking..."

Clyde: "No way!" He exaggerated.

Whitepaws: "You can go back to sleep Clyde."

Chase: "We should all go back to sleep."

Whitepaws: "There is still light out." He protested looking through the cracks of the big window.

Clyde: "Yeah moonlight. You know, from the moon Whitepaws."

Whitepaws: "Okay I get it! Anyways back to what I was saying-."

Chase: "The moon is out...I mean I have to go to bathroom excuse me."

He got up in a hurry and slammed the door when he exited. Not a second later Chase stuck his head back in.

Chase: "Um, where's the bathroom?"

Clyde: "Heh just keep going straight, you'll find it." He said fairly laughing.

Chase: "Right. Thanks."

Then he closed the door and was off.

Whitepaws: "Soooo I was going to set a bet with Chase if he gets back together with Skye I would tell Bubblegum how I felt. But oh well."

Clyde: "Do it when he gets back." He said with his eyes closed, sleepy.

Whitepaws: "But what if he does get back together with her?!"

Clyde: "Then you have to do your part of the bet."

Whitepaws: "Uh oh, nevermind that. Let's talk about the day Frozen invents a time machine, would that also be the day I become immortal?"

In response to that Clyde groaned and covered his ears by stuffing his face in a pillow.

The day was...interesting, but not as interesting as it was about to get in the night.

With Skye

She finished drying herself, but one thing she couldn't shake off was Chase. The whole time she was thinking about what he said and what it could mean for them. She knew better than to get her hopes up, but they were all possible now.

He didn't state that they are absolutely getting back together and she knows that. It doesn't change the fact he must've thought about it. That alone put a huge smile on her face and a pink blush on her cheeks.

A light knock was heard at the door. The mix breed had the sudden realization she lost track of time. Must be one of the girls going to check on her.

Skye: "I'm so sorry I took so lon-."

Chase: "Skye?"

Skye's eyes grew wide as she came face to face with the last person she expected. Her stomach twisted and turned once his voice reached her ears.

It wasn't butterflies this time it felt more like exploding fire crackers. She knew something he didn't, again! Yes, some guilt was there, but as she looked at the canine in front of her there was no way it was guilt she was feeling.

She could barely contain a smile around him, how was she going to hide something like her feelings on what she over head away from him?

Skye: "H-Hey Chase!"

Chase: "Um, sorry if I'm interrupting anything. I thought there was no one in there, but I...well wanted to make sure."

The thumping of her heart blocked out his explanation. She stood there in awe, it was at this moment she knew her feelings never left.

This made the Cocker Spaniel mix wonder if the girls were right when they said his feelings are still there too. Was this the kind of love Bubblegum was referring to? No, something is missing.

Chase: "Are you done?"

The magenta eye colored female panicked when she thought he caught her staring and smiling.

Skye: "I didn't mean to stare you're just handsome. Gah, that came out wrong! Not that you aren't good looking it's just...I'll stop talking." She said blushing madly.

Chase: "I-I meant with the bathroom, but it's totally fine. Thanks. You're good looking too..." He too began turning red in the face. "I'll stop talking now."

In trying to make the situation less awkward he failed. Yet, it was delightful in a way; moments like these would be appreciated in the future.

For a while there was awkward silence, but as they looked at one another laughter unexpectedly bursted out of them. Replacing the embarassment with enjoyment.

Skye: "Let's just forget about that. Here, you can go use the bathroom now."

Chase: "It's alright, I don't have to go."

Skye: "What do you mean?"

Chase: "I just needed to get out of that room. I was hoping there is a window in there so I could get some air."

Skye: "I could use some air myself. I...have a lot on my mind." She sighed then looked behind her. "There's no windows, sorry."

Chase: "Oh, well nice talking to you." He started to retreat back to his room.

Watching him go disappointed left her saddened. There has to be something she could...

Skye: "Wait!"

If you see a door that leads you outside that means you went too far. Skye remembered Frozen's instructions and she got the idea to risk telling it to Chase. Hopefully it would be fine to use the back door at night like this.

Most back doors were like a secret emergency exit, so she wonder if this was an appropiate way of using it. But she figured why not.

Chase: "What is it?"

Skye: "Frozen said there is a door further from here that can get you outside."

Chase: "Really? That's super helpful thank you."

Skye: "Yeah, no problem."

The brown fur male went ahead searching for the door. Skye continued by the entrance of the washing room watching him all by himself.

She loved talking with him and it's been a while since they were alone together. Well not a long time, but it felt like an eternity to Skye.

Regardless, if he wants to be alone she understands and she is willing to put his needs above hers. As she prepared to get going Chase turned to her a couple feet away.

Chase: "You coming?"

Her mouth nearly dropped open from that unforeseen reply. She nodded so eagerly since she couldn't form words right then and joined him, side by side.

Once the two were outdoors moonlight fell upon them. Like white mist covering everything with it's pale glow. Continuing, they began trotting over plain grass over a short distance.

Stars were twinkling above head, the fresh breeze swaying leaves on trees, and crickets chirping set the mood for the hours of no sun. Eventually, the duo spotted a small hill ahead, it would be ideal for a better view of the place so they agreed to go.

While making their way over to the higher ground Skye marveled on asking Chase about what she learned. Last minute she decided against it; he'll think that she was eavesdropping.

In reality, all she did was coincidentally walk by at the moment her name was part of the conversation. Skye did debate if she should listen in or not, but she didn't think it would be a private discussion about her. Nothing could have prepared her for Chase's confession.

Chase: "Wow. It's kind of like the beach."

For now she pushed her thoughts aside. She had what she wanted at the moment, so why think of the past now. The female fell behind a few footsteps, but as soon as she reached the top, where Chase was, she understood his astonishment.

A full moon was out tonight, showing off as much shining light as it could. The hill they were on was actually there as a barrier to keep water in.

In the center there was a pond and surrounding it was a long horizontal hill to keep the body of water from getting out, that's what the two canines were on. On the rim of a big pond. Chase and Skye had the greatest spots to see all of it.

The pond water was a mirror that reflected what the night sky revealed: stars, clouds, and a full moon. Fishes swam by in the pond, minding their own business, but causing gorgeous; captivating ripples. Stars along with the moon glittered the water and the ripple effect made it as if the liquid was sparkling alive.

Skye: "Wow." She repeated, just as amaze as he was.

Minutes flew by with no more words getting exchanged. This wasn't an awkward quietness, just a pause to relax and take in everything leading up to now.

The pair watched the after dark sky motionless, admiring the scenary, but also each other's company. They've come so far together and that thought was sinking in to both of them.

Just then a giant cloud rolled in; covering the moon from sight. Instead of getting startled from the unexpected darkness Chase and Skye took this as an opportunity. Their attention was no longer on the beautiful small-scale pool of ocean.

They were sitting adjacent to one another cloaked in black as the cloud inched it's way pass the moon. During that time something came over the two friends as they got closer and closer together.

When they could feel the other's presence the two moved themselves to be face to face, still in motion; moving forward. Until finally both their heads leaned in as far as it could.

And before they knew it, they kissed.

Strange thing was, as soon as they did the cloud got out of the moon's way. Letting the moonlight pour back out and over the partners, like a spotlight.
