Ivory Petals

Your POV

"Hey! Wait up!" A familiar voice shouts from the sky.

You turn around quickly from on top of your horse to see a flash of dark blue flying above you. The tone of his voice seemed rushed, but not at all angry. You assume the rest of them weren't following him, or you knew he would've acted different.

You slow Nyx down, letting him land in front of you. You decide to dismount, but you kept at Nyx's side, ready to remount and ride away if need be. After all, you were still Yiga, and he was still a champion. "Yes?" You speak first, keeping your voice relatively quiet.

"Here," he looks away, holding your knapsack out in front of you. "Mipha forced me to give this back to you," he snaps in his usual prickly tone. His words made you confused. You'd heard him say that he would use it as a new knapsack. Then he flew off to Rito Village. There was no room for Mipha to tell him to give it back to you. At the silence, he speaks again. "At least I know roughly where you're going, now. I'll just go back and tell Urbosa." He smirks at your shocked expression, which quickly turned dark. Withdrawing your sword, you watch as the sunlight gleams off the chipped edge.

"You dare tell her, and I'll be handing her a bucket of fried Rito," you growl, pointing the tip of your sword in front of his beak. Most people would probably laugh at your insult, and you were sure he would to. Except, instead of laughing, he gulped nervously and pointed your sword down with his wing.

"I don't think Urbosa wants to deal with that." He says, confused as to why you were as calm as a tranquil lake before, then as ferocious as a storm from Thundra Plateau now. "Fine, I won't tell her. Although it's not my fault if she still finds you. That bloody woman has eyes everywhere." He scoffs, brushing invisible dust from his feathers. "Anyway, I have better places to be then in the presence of one so lowly."

"Says the one that looks like a stupid chicken," you retort, sheathing your sword and attaching your knapsack to Nyx's saddlebags. At your comment, he turns back to you, his face full of rage. It was oddly amusing to draw such a reaction from him.

"Wh-what did you just call me–The Amazing Revali?" He yells, planting himself firmly in front of you.

"Need I spell it out for you?" You snicker, finding his reaction priceless. He huffs, sassily putting his wings on his hips.

"You can just shut your stupid mouth. I could easily have you thrown in the castle dungeons for mocking someone of such higher status than yourself." He scoffs, eyeing your every move. Your muscles tensed in a way they would if you were about to move, yet he did nothing about it.

"You'll never catch me in time for that." You smirk, and mount Nyx quickly, kicking her sides and urges her into a gallop. The sheer speed that you performed each action almost shocked Revali, until you shout out; "So long, drumstick!" Even if you were creating distance quickly between him, you could both hear and feel his anger, as he shouted meaningless insults into the wind. He stomped off angrily, his talons clicking on the pavement, before he took off. He flew in the opposite direction that you were travelling in, feeling his feathers bristling at the very thought of you. The nerve you had to mock him.

After a few minutes, you chuckle lightly to yourself, feeling like the meeting with the Rito helped you lighten up a little more than was allowed. You pet Nyx's mane, before reaching into your knapsack and taking a long swig of water from the waterskin. The cool, clear water slid down your throat easily, the liquid much needed to help your dry mouth. It left a blissful taste on your tongue, as you feel yourself already craving more water–although you had to refrain, until you found another water source.

You approach Wetland Stable, and nod to the stable hand tending to a few brown coloured horses. "Good day to you, miss," he greets. You dismount your horse next to him, letting him untack Nyx, smoothing her mane once more. She whinny's happily in response at the gentle touch.

You walk inside the stable, finding Beedle, and selling a few apples and bananas to get some rupees. You placed the new rupees into your pouch, the total amount now fifty–soon to be thirty as you'd be spending twenty on a bed for the night. You weren't quite ready to camp out, even if you had the necessary means to do so.

"Hello, I'd like to rent a bed for the night," you say, holding out a red rupee to the man behind the counter.

"Ah, of course. There's a spare bed just over yonder, with a few privacy curtains," Lawdon explains, happily taking the payment you were holding out for him. "What time would you like to be awoken?" He inquires.

"Five am tomorrow, please." You respond, nodding goodbye and walking over to the bed. You place your newly acquired knapsack on the table beside you, and you sit down on the bed. It was comfier than anything the Clan could have ever offered, and for that, you were grateful. Even if the Vantablack Blade really was a myth, you would be lying if you said it didn't introduce you to freedom.

You place your boots by the foot of the bed, tucking them just under the lip of the bed. You then slide into the covers, snuggling into the cozy blankets. The pillow itself perfectly to fit your head, which in itself lulled you to sleep quicker. Even if it was only seven pm, you were the definition of exhausted. All that constant travelling throughout the day, paired up with your aching bones from the day before, and you had just run out of energy. You allow the low hum of chatter in the stables to fill your ears, lulling you into a dream-filled sleep.

***

Your boots smashed against the grey stone floors as you ran speedily through Hyrule Castle. There were about six guards on your tail, all with their spears and swords drawn out. You already knew the fate awaiting you outside, as there were about a dozen Rito archers waiting impatiently.

Your breath becomes ragged as you force your body to keep going, putting one foot in front of the other. Before you can help it, the sheath attached to your back via belts becomes lose, slipping itself off of you, landing with a crash on the ground. You couldn't stop and retrieve your weapon now, not when you could hear the angry cries of the guards behind you.

You could see a figure up ahead, doing their best to cage in a Rito with their arms. It was Malum, you recognised, from the flowing black hair he wore, and the battle scars dotting his face. When you grew closer to them, you noticed he had Revali in a headlock and had kicked his bow away from his gasp.

You were torn, you didn't know why. Malum was somebody that you had known all your life. Although strict, his sword was one you could rely on, no matter what. Even in a time like this, you admit you're glad to see his face.

Yet there was something about Revali, the way he fought, to the way he talked. It meant you couldn't tear your eyes from the scene in front of you, as your heart filled with bittersweet anger. You didn't know the Champion very well, yet you still felt compelled to save him, even if it meant at the cost of your own life.

So, you run towards your Clan member and the Champion.

"Malum!" You shout, attracting his attention. Immediately, a smile blossoms on his usually strict face, and Revali felt his grip soften ever-so-slightly. Your fellow footsoldier did not detect the anger in your voice. "Let him go!" Your voice reaches his ears clearly, yet Revali remains in his vice grip.

"No." He snarls, gripping the Rito tighter, causing his face to contort in pain. You shoot him a death glare before you run up to him, still hearing the stampeding footsteps of the guards.

You raise your fist high, and draw it back, before throwing it viciously at Malum's face, impacting his skin harshly. Malum yelps, and his grip on Revali loosens enough for the Rito to wriggle free. Revali's first action is to lunge for his bow, and before Malum could retaliate at you, Revali had an arrow nocked and aimed at him.

"Take another step, I dare you..." Revali mutters darkly, his steely glare firmly on Malum. For the first time, your old friend did not know what to do.

Luckily, you did. You bolted, and left Revali alone with him, albeit a bad idea, as you didn't want your friend's blood on Revali's hands. Yet your consciousness was nailed down on the guards, who were closer than ever.

Disguised by the noise of the guards, your ears failed to hear the anguished cry of pain that Malum let out, followed by a beating of wings. You look up and notice Revali flying a little above you, sparing you no glance. You rounded a corner and hid into a room, Revali following shortly after, closing and throwing all his weight onto the door.

You stand there stunned at his actions.

All of a sudden, the guards on the other side must've thrown themselves at the door, because Revali suddenly grunted and had to ground himself, before putting more strength into his stance. You were tempted to help him, but your eyes instead scanned the room for any means of defence, or for a way out.

After a few minutes, the noise of guards smashing into the door faded, and Revali could finally step back. He took a deep breath, smoothing his feathers down. He turns around, his gaze sweeping the room, as he believed it would land on your figure.

Yet it did not.

Revali stared in bewilderment at an opened window on the far corner of the room, just small enough to fit a Hylian. He cursed under his breath, reopening the door and walking out, slamming it closed behind him.

He should have known you wouldn't have felt safe enough near any Champion, even if he had just potentially saved your life. He walks back around the corner, continuing down the hallway.

He steps over the dead body.

***

You jolt awake, sitting upright in your bed as you breathe heavily, trying your best to refill all the air lost from your lungs. You could still feel the pounding in your legs, the way you were running so quickly. You saw Malum so vividly, both alive and dead. You saw Revali's expression, torn between doing what was right and what was wrong. Your heart clenched when you remembered all that he did to ensure your safety.

Yet it just made you confused beyond belief. You hated Revali, and he hated you. Why would you dream about him being your Knight in Shining Armour, coming in to save the day? Although he wasn't much of a hero, if he was the one to shed Malum's blood.

Your body shuddered greatly, the cold suddenly hitting you. You had thrown your blanket off when you'd sat up, which opened the door for the cold night air to seep in. It pierced your warm skin harshly, causing a thin layer of goosebumps to coat your arms.

Even with the cold, you decide to get out of bed, taking one blanket and throwing it over your shoulders, wrapping it tightly around your now shivering frame. Everyone in the stables were asleep, either in their rented beds or in separate rooms.

You make your way outside, where the cold hit you even harsher than before. You were lucky to have the thick blanket around you, offering you sweet warmth. You breathed in some of the cold air, a different freshness that was openly welcomed by your lungs.

You decide to stray a little further from the stable, walking into a quiet little forest. There wasn't much to see, except a thicket of oak trees, with a few mushrooms and plants at their roots. A few of the wildlife were sleeping in their habitats, snoring softly to themselves. You walk up to a small little hill, staring out into the calm, crystal river flowing by.

You sit down on the soft grass, noticing a few pretty flowers playing hide and seek through the sharp blades of grass. You smile softly, letting your gentle side through. You reach forward, letting the blanket fall onto the ground beside you, as you graze your fingers across the flowers. A few of them stood out to you. Their pinkish white hue was one to be admired. You reach down and delicately pluck one of the flowers from the ground, holding it up to your nose. You breathe in its scent, your heart warming up from the sweet aroma it held.

You pluck a few more, and tie a sturdy blade of grass around them, creating a small but beautiful bouquet. You hold it up, the moonlight shining down upon its ivory petals. You decided to keep it, standing back up and grabbing the blanket. The memory attached to it would be one of your freedom, you're sure.

You stand staring at the moon for a few minutes more before the cold became too much. You shivered once more, your arms getting colder, even with the blanket's soft embrace. You quickly make your way back to the stable, making sure not to step on any of the flora and fauna.

Inside was much warmer than outside, which you were grateful for, as you made your way back to your tousled bed. You place the ivory bouquet on the table beside the bed before you gently lay the blanket back where it belongs. You slip once more into the covers, your dream from before long forgotten, having been blown away by the gentle breeze.

"Just a little further, Nyx..." You murmur to your stallion, urging her on a few more kilometres, having taken a minor detour. Your horse gallops through the shallow pools, the water splashing out of the way, the spray often hitting you and cooling you down. There was an island you wanted to make for, Kincean Island.

Any remnants of your parents were held there, in two small gravestones. They were barely noticeable if you weren't looking, but when you were, they stood out, as clear as day. At a particular point in the night, the moonlight would shine clearly on them, which was what they always wanted. The Guidance of the Moon.

You arrive at the familiar island, dismounting your horse and hurrying to a particular tree. The shade covered Nyx, so she was content with staying put as you walked off to your destination.

You never knew much of your parents, just that they were easily the kindest beings in the world. They were kind enough even to help an injured Bokoblin, as long as it did nothing to warrant its wounds.

The only thing you know of them are their exploits, written fancifully in ancient tomes, protected by the Great Castle Library. A few times, you had gotten Malum to sneak in and steal various books, as you loved reading about your parents.

Arriving at their gravestones, you crouch down and place the ivory bouquet in between the stones. "Rest in peace, my parents. May you live a long and happy life in the Sacred Realm, under the kind gaze of the goddess..." You murmur softly, tracing the engravings on their gravestones with your fingers.

You stare up at the sky, watching a few birds fly by. You sigh, standing up and smoothing out your pants. You turn around and softly gaze at Nyx, who was munching contently on grass. When she feels your gaze, she looks up, giving you a quiet whinny.

You walk up to her, stroking her mane lovingly. "You won't leave me, right? Not like they did...?" You whisper to your mare, who seemingly understands you. She shakes her head, moving herself so her side was facing you. "Thank you." You murmur, mounting her.

"Looks like it's just us against the world." You rejoice, laughing your worries away. Little did you know, there was a certain navy blue Rito watching you from afar, gazing at you with a solemn expression. He quickly shakes his head, flying away. There's no chance that there could be a possibility that he might not hate you.
