Chapter 2
"Severus who?" asked Harry with a puzzled look on his face.
"Severus Snape."
"That is not possible. We saw him die in the shack."
"I tried to save him, Harry. The moment Voldemort attacked him I realized that he was on our side the whole time. So I brought him to the infirmary where Poppy reanimated him. He was laying there in a coma. Every time I left the common room, and you asked me where I was going I told you to the library, didn't I? Well, I barely went there. Instead, I was in the infirmary with him. When we left school I kind of lost my faith in seeing him awake again. I had nothing left. Ron was dead, you and Ginny were in an emotional down phase and Severus was still in a coma.
I wanted to run away and that's what I did. I searched for a flat in London and barricaded myself in there. Not only that, but I didn't want to see anyone, wanted to finally be able to mourn on my own. Then today I met him in the park. He's so different. He said he woke up two years ago. They told him that he had an accident. Severus lives just around the corner. He has no memory whatsoever of what happened before he woke up. I told him of the war and his abilities. He now knows that he's a wizard. We want to try to get his memories back tomorrow, starting with his parents' house in Spinner's End. Maybe some memories come back when he is confronted with things from his past. Afterwards, we are going to Diagon Ally to buy him a new wand. I want to give him back his memories and with that his life. That's the least I can do to help him after he saved us uncountable times. He deserves every help he can get. Can you help me, Harry? Please?", she ranted.
Harry was speechless and so it was Ginny who asked the first question:
"He's different? What do you mean by that?"
"I think he is the man he would have been if all of those events hadn't happened to him. He is kind, friendly, and chivalrous. I think he's the man he wanted to be but wasn't able to be because of the things he had to do. He doesn't seem to be as broken as he was when he was our teacher. Severus is a normal man in his early forties," she told both of them and rendered them speechless again.
"Hermione, you know that we will always be there for you and if you need help we will help you. If he's that different from what he used to be - maybe we could start anew, who knows?" at that Harry smiled brightly yet hopefully at her.
She knew how much it would mean to him to finally be able to thank him for all he did for them and even apologize for being so mistrusting and troublesome.
"Tell Uncle Harry, what is it you need help with?" he said in a mocking grandfatherly tone.
Ginny smacked him again, this time right across his chest. "That's not funny, you git. You could be a gentleman and just ask her without mocking her, you know?" she laughed at his hurtful expression.
"Anyway. I don't think you'd be of help when we go to Spinner's End, but maybe you could accompany us to Ollivander's. I'll have to ask Severus whether he allows you to help or not first though," she answered, thinking about how private the old Severus was and not being certain whether that had changed or not. She didn't want him to be upset with her.
"Understood. Just send us a patronus when you are finished visiting his house, and then we'll go on."He internally already started planning things but didn't want to worry her with his slightly crazy scenarios on how to restore Severus' memories.
Hermione nodded her head and said: "Harry, Ginny, you two are the best." and threw her arms around them.
"Hermione. Now that everything else is talked about we can tell you. We are getting married coming summer."Ginny's smile could have lit up the whole Great Hall at Hogwarts at that moment.
"Really? Oh, Harry, Gin, I'm so happy for the two of you.", Hermione squealed and wrapped the both of them in a fierce hug again.
"But now tell me. What did the others do whilst I was away?"
The couple seated opposite her looked at each other with rather interesting expressions written all over their faces.
After a while of searching for answers in each other's faces, Ginny sighed and started explaining.
"Where to begin? Well, Harry and I came here first thing after graduation and moved in after restoring and redecorating the whole house. That took us quite a while. George went into hiding in his flat just above the shop and did barely come out let alone let anyone in. He suffered greatly with the loss of Fred and Ron. Arthur is still working at the ministry, but now as something of a right hand to Kingsley because he threw himself at his work as to not have to think too much about losing his sons. Percy quit his job and is now living with Molly and Arthur at the burrow to help his mother. You know, after the war she wasn't herself and that hasn't changed much until now. She probably is the one who suffered the most. I can't imagine how it must be for her to lose two sons on the same day. I know what it is like from my point of view as a friend but a mother's feelings toward her children are not to be competed with. She loves all of us more than anyone could ever love someone else. Bill and Fleur moved into the burrow, too and Fleur is pregnant with their first child. Charlie is working for the ministry as head of the department for magical creatures. Remus still isn't over the loss of Tonks, and he probably never will be. If it weren't for Teddy he would have given up on his life long ago. He brings little Teddy around every full moon because he doesn't want to accidentally hurt him or even turn him."
Ginny paused and smiled at her fiancé. Harry seemed to be looking into space, his eyes completely zoned out like in a trance. After a while, he shook his head and continued Ginny's explanation.
"Sorry. Everything is just the way it was at Hogwarts when we attended though Professor Snape still seems to be missed greatly. The other professors are still mourning him. They don't seem to know that he's alive either and that's what intrigues me the most. I mean, he was laying in the hospital wing for more than a year and yet nobody from the staff noticed?"
He looked questioningly at Ginny again who grabbed his hand and squeezed it just to give him some comfort. Hermione let her eyes sweep around the room and after a short while they settled upon the clock that was hanging on the wall. "Harry, Ginny. It is nice to have met you after such a long time, but I fear I must be getting back now. It's getting late and tomorrow's going to be a long and exhausting day," she said, smiling in an excusing manner at them."No problem, Mione. We're glad to finally know some things about your whereabouts and how you are doing. Good luck to you and Professor Snape on your journey tomorrow, and please tell us the outcome of that trip. If it's alright with him that we help you I can probably get some others to help him too. Maybe some people who know more things about his past," said Harry while hugging her goodbye. The young woman smiled brightly at him to show at least a bit of her gratitude towards her friends."Don't worry, I'll do that. Goodbye, Gin," she said, before going out the door and disapparating in the front yard. Appearing again in her little flat, an exhausted Hermione made her way straight into bed. She didn't know what the upcoming day would bring to her and Severus and the least she wanted was to be well-rested.
