Chapter 9
Hazel POV
I twisted my shirt as Frank sat down next to me. I had tried not to blink, but I still did.
Blink
“Leo! Will you please stop throwing wrenches at me?!” I tossed one of the metal tools back at him. I totally missed, but Leo got the idea.
“Clover, just hold on! I just need to connect wires together!”
“Hazel?” Frank asked, as I winced. When I didn’t respond, he just continued, “Jason said that Leo is okay…for now…” I nodded, but tried to make a curtain of hair to hide myself from his watchful eyes. I was tired of the pain. I wanted to tell Clover that I couldn’t do this anymore.
“Frank,” I said, rubbing my head, “do you think Leo getting hurt was my fault?” Frank shook his head vigorously,
“No! Of course it wasn’t your fault!” I shook my head,
“But I told you… when I wasn’t supposed to..” Frank wrapped his arm around my shoulder,
“Hazel, you can’t go through this alone. You’re in pain, confused and bombed with information that doesn’t make any sense. It isn’t your fault Leo is hurt.” I wiped my nose on my sleeve,
“But is it my fault I was given this pain?” Frank didn’t respond. I rested my head in between my legs and wrapped my arms around them. Frank rubbed my back comfortingly, but nothing could really shake me back to reality.
Then, my stomach all of a sudden started to hurt, as if someone had punched it. I doubled over and groaned. The headache and nausea came back. I backed up against the tiled wall and tried to take deep breaths.
This didn’t feel normal.
I snapped my head up, startling Frank.
“Clover… Somethings wrong..” I stood up and was about to rush into the sick room, but Nico was leaving. He had been getting better, but he still looked weak. I almost ran into him, but stopped myself quickly. Nico moved around me and looked me in eye. He furrowed his eyebrows, knowing something was wrong.
“Hazel,” he said, “what’s wrong?” I couldn’t seem to respond.
“I uh… was just wondering if Leo was okay.” I said, coming up with an excuse. Nico smirked,
“He isn’t dead.” And with that, he walked off down the hall, the shadows bending toward him. Frank shivered, still sitting on the ground.
“That guy is creepy…” He said. I smiled slightly and entered the sick room. I almost gasped aloud. Leo was thrashing and crying out in pain on the sick bed, with Jason holding him down and Piper trying to comfort him.
“Leo!” Piper said, putting a large amount of charmspeak into her voice, “Calm down!” Jason almost collapsed from being too calm, but Leo hadn’t changed a bit.
“AAHHH!!!” he screamed, “MY HEAD!!” I rushed over to Leo and carefully studied his figure. (No, not like that! I have Frank!)
“Hazel! Do you know how we can snap him out of this?!” Jason asked, holding Leo’s arms down. I shook my head,
“No! I don’t!”
“AAAHHH!!!” Leo screamed, tensing up then thrashing, almost kicking Piper in the face. “MAKE IT GO AWAY!!! IT HURTS!!!!” I gripped his hand and asked forcefully,
“Leo! What hurts?!” He used his finger to point to his head. I looked at Jason and Piper,
“Let go of him!” I said. Jason gave me a shocked look.
“What?! He’s gone insane!”
“Just do it!” I yelled. Jason let go of Leo’s arms. Leo immediately gripped his head and screamed, rolling into a ball. I grasped his shoulder and looked him straight in the face.
“Leo…” I said in a calm voice, trying to calm him down as well, “what caused the pain?” Leo groaned and reached into his tool belt. He pulled out a blue shirt, but before he could give it to me, he screamed,
“AHHHH!!! NO!!!! STOP!!! AAAAAHHHHH!!!!” He dropped the shirt and grasped his head with both hands. I picked up the shirt as Piper asked,
“A shirt? How could that cause him this?” She gestured to Leo, who was now rolled into a tight ball. I opened it up and read the words, Your Little Helper! Then, I blinked
“Clover, you need to open mine first.” said Zach. I smiled and Leo handed me a green present. On the top was written in scribbled handwriting,
Happy Sweet Sixteen!! ~ Zach
I ripped open the top and opened the box. Inside was a blue t-shirt with the words, Your Little Helper!
I gasped. I studied it closer, trying to notice every detail. Jason looked at me quizzically.
“What is it?” He asked. I looked at Leo, who was still screaming on the bed. I gripped his shoulder, and asked firmly,
“Leo, where did you get this?”
“My… Ugh… closet… AHHHH!!!!” Leo screamed again. Frank came into the room, looking worried,
“Is… Leo okay?” He asked. I gave him a worried look.
“We don’t know…” Piper answered, pulling out a bag of ambrosia. Then, I blinked again.
“No!” I exclaimed, which hurt, “don’t feed me any ambrosia!"
I looked at Leo, then at the shirt in my hands, then back again. With a shock, I realized what was wrong.
Clover and Leo were connected….
Oooo.... whaz gonna happen?! I dunno... and yousa has to wait!!! >:D Yes... I am that evil...
