Sweet Delight
I had heard it many times that, when you make friends you also pick on their habits as well.
I realized the saying was really true during my polytechnic course, as that was the first time I ever made friends in my life. I was so happy for the first time I felt like I belong somewhere. As I had already mentioned in the previous chapter that Manu and Sonam were my first friends.
During college time we were always together talking, laughing, commenting, life was fun. Eight hours of college were the best hours of the day. Life was never good before and that made me realise that what difference your freinds could bring in your life.
But as I said once you made friends and spend some valuable time with them then you pick on their habits too , and thats exactly what happened with me. You see my friend Manu really had a sweet tooth, the biggest sweet tooth I had ever seen.
She was addicted to toffees and candies so much that she always kept some on her person. It was like she can't spend more than five minutes without eating candies or anything sweeter but she was not the one who eat them alone without sharing.
She always shared them with us and in no time she made us addicted to it. We started craving for sweets more than ever before. I for one can confirm that I was never addicted to sweets before I met Manu and pick on her addiction of candies, toffees and what not.
After Manu left she left her sweet addiction with us. Now we started craving the sweets more and more, some time I think it was because we missed her that we started eating candies as a way of remembering her but other times I think she just gave us a bad habit so she would stay with us even after we parted our ways.
Anyway We, me and Sonam, started keeping toffees with us. We just can't seem to leave this addiction of our out of class. Now it seems funny remembering the past but then we just never realise what we were doing. Always eating toffees, whether we were in class or out of class. It never mattered if we had our break or not, if we crave for a toffee or even a peppermint thn no thoughts of lecturer or ogling classmates can stop us. There were so many times during lectures you can find us indulging toffees while talking and so much talking that our teacher had to remind us that we were in class not in a park and after a reminder we will sober up for a few moments but will be back to our chattering again.
It was another thing that the most we crave for sweets was when we were in lectures. While our lecturers were giving their boring lectures droning about magnetic field around producing induction in the motor engine or teaching us the binary numbers and their values (most boring topic ever in my opinion) we were enjoying our sweet delights the best antidote to the teacher's drowning.
Our habit of chattering and eating in the class had brought us in the eye of our teacher so many times
There's also an incident related to this habit of us, the incident happened during our second semester of college. I remember it was chemistry class and we, me and Sonam were caught red handed eating candies.
As you have realised by now that I am really bad with remembering dates and time so I only remember the incident. even though its 7 years but my memory isn't really sharp so you have to suffice with the account that my bad memory presented here.
So I remember that both me and Sonam were talking that day while sitting on the second bench of the left row. Now don't go and think that we were the front benchers so we must be studious geeks. But let me clear it now, we weren't the studious types, we wrre front benchers because we have no other choices. You see in our class there were only 7 girls in a class of 66 students and we only occupy 2 front banches. I hope you understand the reason why we were the front benchers.
I got side tracked sorry.
You see that day in chemistry class our teacher 'Mr. Sherma' came to our desk, and asked us if we needed more toffees to eat.
Hearing these words from him both me and Sonam were shocked, first we looked at each other like trying to ask silently 'did you tell him?' and we don't get the answer we were looking, we looked to Mr. Sherma, who was looking at us and expecting an answer.
After a few silent seconds when we got over the initial shock, we tried to deny the disguised accusation of Mr sherma by saying actually more like stuttering : " We don't eat toffees sir." at this Mr. Sherma got a knowing look in his eyes and a teasing smile on his face. We know then, he know we were lying. We were a bit scared as we thought he is going to punish us. Mr. Sherma said :
"Then you should look under your desk."
When we did look under the desk as he said, we got red in the face from ambarresment and only can stare at each other. You know what was there under the desk.
I think you must have guessed after reading the chapter then let me tell you, you are right. there under the desk were empty toffee wrappers that we had just eaten.
Now Mr. Sherma was all smiles and we were red. Damn it was so ambarresing. Now we weren't able to look into Mr. Sherma's eyes, we just stared on the desk. We thought we were going to have a sound leashing but nothing like that happened.
After Mr Sherma proved his point, he asked us to sit down and return back to his chair. Mr. Sherma was a friendly lecturer, after that incident he never talked about that incident again. It wasn't like we gave him any chance to repeat or talk about that incident.
Now, now don't think that we learned our lesson and stopped eating toffees in class or during lectures. We never stopped eating toffees. the only lesson we learned with that incident was that now we started to hid our empty wrappers in our bags, instead of throwing them under the desk carelessly.
We were smart you know.
