Chapter 2
Harlow
"This is our biggest one yet"
I spread out the map on the desk and pointed at the road. "These are where all the trucks will pass by on their way to the werewolf health centre" I drew a circle around the health centre in red marker "We have to stop four of the five buses before they reach their destination," I told them. Everyone nodded.
"What are the buses carrying?" Flo asked.
"New antidotes to wolfsbane, they're in particularly high demand this month due to how many casualties we've left on missions recently," I said the last part with a smirk. This month we'd hit an all-time high on attacks on the werewolves and human rebellions.
Just in the last fourteen days, we'd broken out over fifteen hundred humans from slave factories. They now lived freely behind the walls of the WBB. Carrying out their lives as they would've before the takeover happened.
It was paradise.
"Why four of the five?"
I pointed my pen at Lameck "Good question!". I leaned closer "Those five trucks are going to be packed with bottles enough to cure two to three packs and ideally I'd want us to shatter all the bottles in those four trucks" I explained " We will allow the fifth to think it has gotten away but the victory will soon fade as they realise how little they brought" I giggle.
"They will have to split what's in that truck between three packs!" I emphasized "These are animals we're dealing with remember, they'd do anything to get their claws on the bottles to cure their children, their families and themselves" I emphasized, "Their natural animal instinct will switch on and before they know it, they'll be tearing each other to pieces".
"That's...Psychotic"
"It's brilliant" Will stepped out to defend me, she put her arm around my shoulder and pecked my head "It's crazy genius".
Aloe crossed her arms "Yeah I'm with Willow on this one, the plans pretty good" I gave her a smile of appreciation and she shot me a wink.
"Course it is, what more can we expect from the leader of this shit show" Lameck leaned on the table "But Flo's right, this all sounds a bit over our heads".
"The way I see it we've got the easy part down" I pointed at Aloe "We could get Aloe and her team to drop in on the trucks and crush all the bottles from the inside" I pointed at Lameck "We can get you to line some explosives on the road, setting them off right after the first track has passed through, boom car crash for the rest of them".
"I think we're forgetting about the highly trained wolves that will be driving these vehicles" Flo brought up "They're not going to die just because of a little car crash, they're better than that."
"That's true..." I thought. I didn't make a plan for the wolves.
"I could hit them with some sleeping darts, if I put enough dosage it should be enough to knock them out for hours" Will suggests.
"That's perfect actually, try not to kill them though," I ordered her.
"Why not? We have no use for them alive" Lameck snorts.
"Actually Willow needs them for testing," I told them. Willow's face brightened as a lightbulb seemed to go off in her head.
"Yes, thank you for reminding me!" Will ran out of the room, practically squealing in excitement. Everyone turned to me with raised eyebrows and I gave them a shrug.
Willow told me she was working on something new but I had no clue what is was. When I'd asked she just giggled giddily and smiled.
Fucking weirdo.
I was far from concerned though. It happened once a week that Willow would burst into my office with a new concoction to make wolves lives hell. Most were powerful but didn't give out the reaction she'd hoped. Many were successful but not as 'dangerous' as she wanted them to be.
Others failed and we'd have to suffer the consequences of the clean up.
Out of the many things she'd created only one can truly take the cup as the best thing she'd ever created.
Wolfsbane.
It was the one thing that truly proved as a threat to the wolves and ultimately helped us rise above them and start the rebellion. Without it, we'd all probably be working in factories, at the hand of those beasts.
Till this day I commend her on her genius of the poison. She crafted it from a flower that grew outside our broken down human apartment. It was tall and blue in colour and it seemed to have a mind of its own as it grew without ever being taken care of.
We owned a small street dog at the time and she took notice of how it seemed to stay away from the plant, whimpering whenever it even got close to it. She named the flower Canine Kapalis for that reason and studied it for long hours of time.
One day she sprinkling the petals of the flowers in its food.
It died in under forty-eight hours.
And the rest was history. Wolfsbane had now become the number one reason for werewolf deaths today. It is widely known to burn from the inside out, rendering the person unable to shift, think and breathe. It's the perfect werewolf repellent for sure.
Willow burst back into the room with a large thick book. I recognized it as her poison crafts book, where she wrote all her recipes for her deadliest concoctions. I rolled my eyes as I noticed how it was basically falling apart.
I always tell her to take more care of it. My word seems to pass right through her ears.
"I'm calling it apathetic ambrosia" She bit her lip.
Aloe nodded "Fancy name... does it do anything useful?"
"It's the next best thing!"
"I've heard that one before" Lameck snickered with Flo who was doing a terrible job at hiding her laugh. I shot them a look that made them compose themselves.
"Okay so here's my idea" She slammed the book on the table and flipped it open. I reached out to grab a piece of paper that went flying from her book as she flipped through it. "I've been trying for months to find something that'll really hit these wolves where it hurts" She explained "But that's the thing, healing fast is one of their superpowers" She mocked bitterly.
"I realized that these wolves are emotional creatures more than anything, their animal instincts cause all their emotions to heighten by a thousand" She pointed at some chart in her book "If I really want to hit these beasts where it hurts I have to go through the inside".
"Like burn them from the inside? I think you've done that before Will" I joked. She shot me a glare.
"No" She facepalmed "I mean I have to go through their hearts, you know? Mentally?"
"So what I'm hearing is.. you want to kill them with kindness?" Flo giggled. Will slammed her hand down on the table in exasperation.
"What I'm saying is I've found a way to create a gas that can mess with your mind" She huffed "It'll make them feel nothing, mentally. They'll be completely emotionally numb to everything" She exclaimed.
"So what? Make them emotionless?"
"Well yes, but this is even bigger. If this works the way I want it to I can not just erase their loyalty and strong hatred of humans but I can tap into something more primal in their brains" She whispered for dramatic effect "I might be able to break the mate bond."
"Permanently".
