Part 8: The City Of Esteven
/your p.o.v./
The next morning Juvia woke me up. I grumbled something that I couldn't even understand, and ducked my head under the covers.
"Come on (y/n) you have to get up. We start our mission today." Juvia told me.
"I know I know just five more minutes." I mumbled. The lack of sleep last night was now starting to dawn on me.
"We don't have five minutes the boys are already waiting." She explained and then ripped the blankets away from me.
I shivered, but then reluctantly rolled out of bed, and got ready.

Gray, Lyon, Juvia, and I had now started our search. Our client had given us the general area he thought the entrance to Esteven might be. It didn't help much though because we still had to search acres of forest.
I yawned as I walked and rubbed the sleep from my eyes. When I looked back up I saw Lyon staring at me. "What?" I asked casually.
"Huh? Oh uh nothing." He replied snapping his gaze away from me.
That is weird. Why is he acting so strange? I thought to myself.
"This is gonna take ages." Gray sighed. "There is so much ground to cover, and we don't even know what the entrance looks like."
"Yes, but we can't loose hope my love." Juvia encouraged him.
"Yeah I guess your right we just gotta keep moving, and search everywhere." He replied.
We continued walking and found nothing, and nothing out of the ordinary happened. We stopped to rest our legs a bit since we had been searching for hours.
"I can't believe we still haven't found even a clue." Lyon complained.
"Yeah well we won't if we keep lounging around. Come on let's get back to it." Gray said and we all stood.
I froze thinking I heard something. It was a voice. A voice I had never heard before, yet it sounded so familiar. Did it... call my name? I shook my head. No I must be imagining things.
"Hey you ok?" Lyon asked snapping me out of my thoughts.
I realized Gray and Juvia were already ahead of us. "Yeah I'm fine." I replied simply and hurried to join them.
It felt like more hours and hours had gone by, an still nothing. It was an understatement that we were all annoyed, tiered, and frustrated.
There it was again! I stopped walking. That voice. I walked towards the source, and came to a large waterfall that fell into a pond. I dug the book out of my bag and pulled it out flipping to a page. The book had an illustration of a beautiful waterfall that flowed into a pond. It was practically identical to the one I was now looking at.
"(Y/n)?!" I heard Gray call, and the rest of the group came up and joined me. "Jeez don't wonder off like that. You nearly gave us a heart attack."
"What did you find?" Lyon asked.
I showed them the comparison, and they seemed shocked, and relieved.
"Good job (y/n)." Gray said approvingly.
"Yeah now we just need to figure out how to actually get in." I replied. I heard the voice again. It came from directly behind the water fall. I put the book back and then started walking into the surprisingly shallow pond and made my way behind the waterfall.
The others followed, seeming confused, but not saying anything. We walked into a small cave that had strange writing on the ceiling.
"Where's levy or Freed when you need them?" Gray asked as we all pondered at the strange writing.
The back wall had a symbol on it. A familiar symbol, but where had I seen it? I went up, and touched it couriousily. I screamed and jumped back as the symbol made a loud crack noise, and started to glow.
"Are you ok?" Juvia asked when they heard me scream.
"Yeah it just startled me." I explained.
the symbol glowed brighter. The writing also started glowing filling the cave with its strange light. Then the back wall of the cave dissolved into the light revealing a passageway.
We all looked at each other skeptically, but then cautiously made our way through the passage. It was dark, and hard to see. We ran our hands along the wall, and it got thinner as we went in further forcing us to walk in a single file line, to which I was the leader. Soon we saw a light at the end and walked through it. I widened my eyes shocked by what I saw.
We were greeted by a city. The buildings were old, and falling apart. Vines and greenery were growing along almost anything it could. But the most amazing part was all the water details. Fountains, streams, and things you couldn't even imagine water could do decorated the whole city. It was beautiful...
"wow..." Juvia said staring in awe.
"So uh what are we supposed to do now?" Gray asked. "I mean we found it, but now what? there doesn't seem to be anyone else here."
"I guess we should just try looking around, just to make sure." Juvia replied.
"I wouldn't mind, I mean think about it, this place has been unseen and untouched for generations. Think of the new culture and all the secrets just waiting to be discovered." I said excitedly.
"Well then let's get going." Lyon replied, and we set off to explore the mysterious place.
I wandered the town looking in buildings, and finding strange objects. Everywhere you went the same strange symbol from the entrance decorated the walls, the floors, almost everything.
I found an old library. It was mostly destroyed, and sadly not many of the books were in a condition to be read. I took the few that were still readable, and put them in my bag for Levy. While I was closing my back I saw something move in the corner of my eye. I looked up and saw a figure of a young girl crouched in the doorway. When she saw me see her she ran.
"Wait!" I called and ran after her, but when I turned the corner she was gone. That's strange... Could I have just imagined her? No I couldn't have, but then who was she?
I heard footsteps coming my way, and voices that I didn't recognize as my teammates. I hid In the library there was no door, and I prayed I wouldn't be discovered. I ducked under a table. I saw the feet of many men stop in front of the building. One of them I could see had chains wrapped around him.
"So master what are we supposed to do now?" I heard one of their voices. "The Wizards from that light guild have arrived."
Damn they know we're here. I hope the others are ok.
"What if they cause us trouble?" Another man asked.
"Then we'll take care of them." A bold voice, that I guessed belonged to the master, stated. "Besides." He chuckled. "As long as we have that old man's boy as a hostage I doubt they will try anything." He shoved the younger man in chains onto the ground roughly.
I could now see his face and he had similar features to our client. He winced and when he opened his eyes he saw me. He widened his eyes slightly. I put my finger to my lips, signaling for him to not say anything. He looked away again, and acted like nothing had happened.
"What are we supposed to do about the ritual?" One of the men asked.
"No need to worry. Fate always finds a way of giving people what they need." The master replied. "Let's get going."
They started to walk again, but then a man in black boots stopped directly in front of where I was hiding. "Wait..." He said and all the men stopped walking. "We aren't alone."
Shit! I thought. He can't possibly know I'm here. Much to my dismay he walked into the library and saw me. I took quick action. "Water slicer!" I yelled knocking him back and running out of the building. My attack had caused the building to become unstable, and collapse into a pile of dust and ruble. My cover had been blown, and now I faced the men, trapped and forced to fight. I got into my stance ready to attack but froze as the master held a knife to the young boy's neck.
"Now now there's no need for violence." He said smugly.
The man who I had attacked grabbed me from behind holding me in my place. "What should we do with her master?" He smiled down at me menacingly.
"Teach her what happens to sneaky little spies." The master replied.
"This should be fun." The man chuckled, and tightened his grip on me.
