Chapter 12

"Remus, my boy! I was wondering when you would visit me next. Come in, come in." I follow Remus into the house and the man, my grandfather, looks at me curiously.

"Sorry it's been a while, Dad. But I would like you to meet your granddaughter, Melissa. Melissa, this is your grandfather, Lyall Lupin." I smile and wave at my grandpa.

"Hi!" I say, excitedly. Grandpa Lyall just smiles brightly and gives me a big hug.

"Oh you are just so pretty." He gushes over me while leading me into the living room.

"So Remus who is her mother?" Lyall asks as we sit down in the living room.

"Oh she isn't my daughter. She's Rick's daughter with his wife Erica." Remus says, and Lyall looks shocked.

"You have seen Rick? I haven't seen him since he was 17 years old."

"Yes there is a long story behind it but when Melissa learned about you, she was excited to meet you. So I brought her here to meet you." Lyall smiles and turns to me. The two of us talk for hours about a lot of things. I tell Lyall about Fred, George, and Lee and our adventures at Hogwarts. Lyall tells me stories of my dad and uncle when they were kids, even pulling out some photo albums. Remus and I leave but not without me getting a huge hug from my grandfather and promising to come visit again soon.

When we get back to headquarters, it is dinnertime so I sit in between Fred and George and tell them all about meeting Lyall. They are both happy that I got to meet him. I tell them that he wants to meet them and Lee after hearing so many good things about them from me. This gets Molly's attention.

"I don't see why there would be a problem with them going with you to Lyall's house, Melissa. As long as you three go there and come straight back." Molly says. Tonks starts to entertain everyone by changing her hair colour and even makes her face resemble certain animals, making Ginny laugh.

"That would come in handy." I hear Fred mutter under his breath.

"What would come in handy?" I ask, leaning into Fred to hear him better.

"Being a metamophargus. You can change your apperance at will. We could use to get away with so many pranks." Fred says, gleefully. I softly laugh and shake my head. After dinner, Fred and I walk around the really creepy house. Fred swings our interlocked hands between us and we softly talk about plans for the future. Someone softly clears their thoart behind us. We turn to see my dad standing in the doorway of the room we just passed.

"Can I talk to you, Lissa? In private?" He asks, eyes locked on mine and Fred's interlocked hands.

"Anything you want to say to me, you can say in front of Fred, I am just going to tell him anyways." Fred softly squeezes my hand in support.

"Very well, both of you come in here, then." He turns and walks back into the room he came out of. I look at Fred with a raised eyebrow, who just shrugs in return. I lead the way into the room and it turns out to be my dad's room.

"What did you want to talk about?" I ask, sharply. My dad sits on his bed and takes a deep breath.

"I wanted to explain why I did what I did. Just so I know, how much of what happened does Fred know?" Dad looks at Fred and then our interlocked hands.

"I know everything of what happened." Fred says, his voice sounding so unusually angry.

"Okay so I don't need to explain anything of the events, just my reason why." Dad runs his hand through his sandy brown hair. "I got involved with the wrong people, because of your mother. Sanchez isn't her actual last name, just the one she adopted to get away from her family."

"What? What do you mean, Sanchez isn't her actual last name? Did either of you ever tell each other or me the truth?"

"She knows who I am and I know who she is and we were going to tell you when you turned 17 years old. Which is why I am telling you now and also you are right, you deserve to know."

"So what is her last name? And is Erica even her actual first name?" I demand.

"No, Erica isn't her real first name. Again, Erica Sanchez is the identity she adopted to get away from her family. Her real name is Cassiopeia, Cassiopeia Malfoy."

"Malfoy?!?!?" Fred and I exclaim at the same time.

"Yes, Malfoy. Her twin brother, Lucius was very controlling and when Cassiopeia disappeared, he was furious. She and I were secretly dating because her family would never approve of a half-blood for her partner. She told me that she was going to disappear and what her new identity was going to be and we both ran away because I loved your mother very much, Lissa." Dad pauses and sighs again. "When you were 3 years old, Lucius came around the house while it was just me and you home. Your mother, I believe was grocery shopping. He tried to get me to admit that I was Richard Lupin and where your mother was but I didn't. He went away and I told your mother and she told me not to worry about it. Two more years later, Lucius came by again and this time, threatened you if I didn't get your mother to go back to her old life. So I thought after my death, your mother would go back to her old life, at least to get help from her family to raise you but I guess she never did."

"So, Mum was right. It was my fault. You faked your death to protect me." I say, softly after a couple minutes of silence.

"Mel, that is not your fault. Sounds like it was Lucius Malfoy's fault and a poor mistake on your dad's part but none of this was your fault." Fred says, softly.

"You could have gone to Grandpa or Remus, hell even Dumbledore. Someone who could have protected us without you faking your death, especially in front of me." I pointed out and Dad nods his head.

"You're right. I should have but I didn't. I haven't spoken to my father since before I ran away and the last time I spoke to my brother, he told me that our mother died. I really am sorry, Lissa for everything my decision put you through but I need you to understand that as your dad, there isn't anything I wouldn't do to protect you." I look over at my dad and slowly let go of Fred's hand and sit beside my dad. I give him a small hug which he gladly and quickly returns.

"Promise me that you won't ever do this again. That you will trust me to be able to protect myself." I whisper.

"I have seen the way you throw hexes, someone is going to have a hard time beating you. I promise, Lissa."

"Yeah not to mention, Fred wouldn't let anything happen to me." I look up and smile at my boyfriend who smiles back and nods his head in agreement. Fred and I leave the room and continue walking down the hallway, this time without talking.

"You okay?" Fred asks softly.

"Yeah, I understand why he did it and I can't really fault him for wanting to protect me. Just angry that Lucius Malfoy took him away from me for 11 years." I let out a small sigh and Fred stops us walking to pull him into his arms. I rest my head on his shoulder and he wraps his arms tightly around my waist.

"I love you." I whisper to him and he presses a kiss to the top of my head.

"I love you too." He whispers into my hair.
