Chapter 5
Kiran was supposed to show her the class as she had been around for the orientation which took place two weeks before resumption, Rose was still back in her hometown then and had missed it. It wasn't unintentional though.
The Asian girl was nowhere to be found, she had told her room number to rose and promised to show her around but on getting to the room, all rose saw was a huge girl who she immediately guessed to be a wrestler, Kiran had mentioned her and said she liked to keep to herself and wasn't much of a bother. Rose was happy for Kiran, at least she didn't have a roommate who hated her for nothing.
Grumbling, she made her way outside of the girl's side of the campus looking around for salvation. A tap on the shoulder made her turn so fast, she almost fell but caught herself before she could sprawl on the floor. A blonde guy with the warmest shade of brown eyes stared down at her, he was so tall he made her self conscious of her height. She found herself wanting to run her fingers on his smooth sharp jaws and through his perfectly gelled hair. I don't want any distractions but for him I'll gladly get distracted. She thought as she took him in.
"You must be the girl everyone's talking about." He said, looking her over, she shifted on her foot feeling uneasy with the close scrutiny. What he said had her thinking though, was it the way she behaved in the restaurant the day before? Would people come after her for that?
"I must admit, you intrigue me, what with that attitude yesterday. But you don't look like someone who would have done something like that or am I mistaken?" He asked tilting his head to a side, easily throwing her a soft smile. She relaxed.
"Well, anger is my triggering factor." She answered, shrugging.
"Anyways, you look lost do you have a hard time finding your class? I can help you if you want I'd have spent four years in this institution in months to come so I think its safe to say I'm well acquitted with every place here." Melanie could tell he was the type that loved to boost but was grateful he was willing to help to which she agreed.
He then guided her to the opposite of the direction she was planning to head, he was easy to converse with, she'd give him that and he also seemed intrigue with where she was from, asking questions a tourist would after visiting a city for the first time in his life. She gladly supplied him with answers, glad that someone important was taking interest in her old life. " why'd you leave your hair like this? I think you should pack it up, it'd suit you better." Rose thought about it for a moment then decided to pack it up, that way it was out of her face, maybe it was better indeed.
Making light conversations coupled with slight flirting, he stopped abruptly at the front of a grey door. At first she arched an eyebrow at him, but soon figured out that that'd be the class. She swallowed
"Physics right?" She nodded and made a move to go in, forgetting to thank him.
"Hey, you didn't even tell me your name," stretching his hand, he gave her a gorgeous smile that made her forget her nervousness. Slowly, she took his hand and attempted a smile, her heart beating in an uneven rate. "I'm Lawrence." He introduced.
"I'm Roseline but call me Rose," she watched him whisper her name as if tasting it and for the first time she was glad her mom chose a beautiful name for her.
"Nice name," he complimented but she just nodded, extracting her hand from his, she walked towards the class not sparing him another glance, she could tell he continued staring at her even as she entered and closed the door behind her.
The scene she was met with upon entering the classroom was not one she expected, she was the third person in the class, one was sleeping with his mouth open the other was passionately staring at the board obviously unconscious of her environment. Relieved, she walked to the front seat directly in front of the podium, she wasn't a nerd but knew that distractions were more at the back. She was a backbencher back in high school but then she wasn't really serious with her life.
Soon, people started filing in. They were all freshers and were quite nervous on their first day so there wasn't much occurrence except for a guy who sneezed so loud, the teacher dropped his book and stared at the guy for two, one could tell he was silently wondering if it was intentional.
The class was for 2 hours but felt like an eternity, she wasn't a fan of physics. Stretching her limbs, she made her way out of the class, careful to avoid bumping into someone not because she was scared of them but because she was too tired to set some idiot right.
Someone waved their hand in front of her, she blinked and look up to the same brown eyes from the morning. She rolled her eyes at him.
"Stalking me now, are we?" He chuckled lightly and moved to take her hand in his, she blinked not sure if holding hands was something people who had just met do. She didn't want to offend him just yet so she sealed her lips and held in her comment.
"Well, I've got nothing better to do." He shrugged, "Would you like to have lunch with me?" Tilting her head, frowned up at him. "Are you trying to ask me out?" He shook him head, and looked at her for answer. She nodded, still weary of his too friendly way. It dawned on her that maybe he was playing a game. A game of catching the black girl with attitude, she had enough of that back in high school. Boys placing bet on who would get the the new girl who was playing hard to get or the old girl who had never dated before.
She smirked slyly. The game is on then.
