What is it like to be alive I questioned?
He looked at me with somber eyes.
Told a story about kings and queens.
About love and loss
and traitorous schemes.
I watched this treacherous man
paint a picture of divine life
and at the end he took me most by surprise.
He stared so deeply into my soul
and revealed it was all a lie.
The snakes had families to protect he said.
The traitors were heroes to some
and there were no heroic fights of late.
More criss cross's on our forearms.
He squandered the magic living
within false pretences
and I felt liberated to know the truth.
Boy, did it feel good to understand the world
instead of ignorant in how it should.
