A showcase with @officialzephyrtaylor, author of Elixir

1 what inspired the idea of your story?

Some really amazing works on Wattpad. It's so amazing to imagine when people just create an entire brand new version of supernatural beings and that's what I tried to do.

2 what was something you struggled with for your story?

To maintain the balance between teen fiction and fantasy. I didn't want it to be something a reader will feel is only in one category. I sort of wanted to bring in everything that's centric to the drama around a teen fic to the mystery and uniqueness of fantasy

3 what has been the overall response to your story from your readers?

Because it's ongoing and a very recent work, not much, I would say but I have some readers share their perspective which are very similar to mine while writing a book and I am most thankful for that

4 what did you enjoy writing most of your story?

The fantasy part. It's something I have never done before. It's soemthing I don't usually even read, so to imagine the powers and the looks was something really fun.

5 is your story a stand alone novel or a piece of a series?

I have decided that it's going to be a stand alone novel. I didn't want it to be an extensive read from the very beginning because it's my first experiment with an entirely new genre.

6 what would you like your readers to take away from your story?

the characters. There is so much uniqueness that I have tried to incorporate in each one of them and I want people to remember the character for less of the things they did, but more of what they stood for by the end.

7 what's a piece of advice you would provide to another writer, when it comes to focusing on their story?

I think it would be uniqueness. On Wattpad, sometimes we read so much that we create either a lot of it which is difficult for people to understand or a lot of cliché which again, people do get tired of. So my advice would be, from whatever experience I have, is that be unique throughout the process and take inspiration from people around you for your characters because that's the best way to give them the content they deserve in your work and really bring them out of the book

8 does your main character share any similarities to yourself?

A lot . Her personality and few of her relationships are very similar to mine but obviously her situations aren't. As I write, I try to channel my own feelings. If I am feeling good someday, she feels good, if I am feeling sarcastic one day, she has punchlines in the chapter.

9 what's something you believe would draw in new readers?

I think the ability for my story to stand out within millions which are already there in my genre and my characters to impact their thinking

10 do you have any future projects?

i do.  I have been writing Elixir for lesser than a month and it's a very serious work so on the side, I am writing a fun, sugar coated romance with a little humor here and there based on past friendships and comebacks and all. I am not sure about the title yet, but it's Nellie and Jonah's Summer Sh*tlist for now and it'll probably be published by this month end, once I have finished Elixir or maybe beforehand
