A showcase with @NANDASHREE, author of The Curse Of Hecate

1 what inspired the idea of your story?

Well, this book is being written for the ONC 2020. So, prompt number 24 definitely inspired me. Along with that there's a webtoon called Subzero which I've been following. It is a story about two warring dragons. Reading it made me want to write a story about dragons too.

2 what is something you struggled constructing with your story?

I've never written a novella before especially in the fantasy-romance genre. Keeping the story short, yet building a believable romance is something I struggled with during plotting.

3 what did you enjoy writing most of your story?

I have always loved the enemies to lovers trope. But, I'd never tried writing it before. It's new and exciting for me.

4 what's the overall response of your story from your readers?

Compared to my previous story (which has been taken down for an edit) this one is garnering more attention in a very short period. It could be because of multiple reasons like people having to stay at home due to Corona or the ONC season. But I'd like to believe my story has succeeded in intriguing the readers.

5 is your story a stand alone novel or a piece of a series ?

It's a stand-alone novella. But, the side characters are very interesting to write so I might come up with spin-offs which would also be stand-alone works.

6 what would you like your readers to take away from your story?

In today's times, nothing is more certain than uncertainty and we all walk around with death looming on our heads. My protagonist shares that feeling with us. I hope my readers find the strength from her story to have faith and hope no matter what the situation is.

7 what advice would you provide to fellow writers, when it comes to focusing on their own story?

I have made many mistakes and learnt from them too. The advice I would like to give to my fellow writers is this: If someone is giving you constructive criticism, take it. If you feel their comment has nothing to add to you or your story, ignore it. At the end of the day, you write because you have an overwhelming need to put your story on paper and because you're passionate about it. Don't ever forget why you started writing in the first place.

8 does your main character share any similarities to yourself?

If my protagonist were like me, the story would be extremely boring. Which is why Meredith was created to be the total opposite of me. Writing her dialogues are therefore very challenging as she seldom responds the way I would to a situation. She's brave, outspoken and sometimes stupid in her idealism.

9 what is something about your story you believe would draw in new readers?

The plot is intriguing and I'm sure there's market for fantasy-romance right now. Besides, it's a rich world with various supernatural beings interacting with each other. The power dynamics keep shifting between my male and female MCs and that in my opinion would be refreshing to read.

10 do you have any future projects?

I'm going to take up my previous work, "The Wanderer" as my Wattys project. Other than that I don't have anything else in mind for now as I like to focus of one project at a time.
