interview #13 @ea_carter
1 are you still surprised when you get a new vote, follow or comment?
It's always nice to get that appreciation, and I find readers are very kind and happy to show their support by hitting that little gold star, or follow, or even leaving a well thought out comment that tends to brighten my day. I am so happy to receive any of these, and it always warms my heart when people take the time to interact with my stories.
2 if you could hang out with your favorite celeb for a day, who would you choose and what would you do?
My current fave would have to be Tom Hiddleston because I absolutely loved him in the Loki series. I think what we would do would be go to the science museum and then maybe a showing of a film noir movie in one of the intimate little cinemas in Soho, and after dinner at a French bistro with some very good wine. I would absolutely have to take him dancing though, because he's a wonderful dancer and I would like to see him dance in person :)
3 what's the best way to handle a bully?
I was bullied all the way through school and high school. My hair was even set on fire once, another time it was cut off. At the time I just coped by fighting back, but it did affect me and perhaps made me into the person I am today who does not think twice about approaching a bully and telling them to stop when I see it happening to someone else. They are usually cowards who behave this way in a group. On their own they are not so tough. I personally think in hindsight the best way to handle a bully is make sure you travel in a group and are never alone. If you are dealing with cyber bullying, the best thing to do is to cut them off completely. Block them everywhere. If they can't see your reaction, they will quickly get bored and move on.
4 what's a song you enjoy? Who is the artist?
I love Alicia Keys. My favourite song of hers is Three Hour Drive. I will be meeting her in person on Sept 10, 2022 and I can't wait!
5 what's your favorite thing about Wattpad?
Meeting new people and growing my group of fans! I have the best fans and they all came from here. It's a wonderful place and it's where everything started for me. Wattpad will always hold a special place in my heart.
6 what's your favorite holiday and why?
New Year's Eve. Because it's an end and a beginning and there's champagne and kisses involved. What's not to love!?
7 what's a good piece of writing advice?
Writing is rewriting. Don't be afraid to just write. Even if it feels clunky and awkward, even if you hate it. It's words, it's a start, and you can only improve on it. When there is nothing on the page, there is not to improve. Just write and say to yourself, "Writing is rewriting" to encourage yourself to keep going, I promise it helps!
8 what's your favorite movie?
Ahhh! What a hard question!! But I do have an all-time favorite. Jeux d'enfants. I honestly adore it. It's very French and very quirky but the love is passionate, and unforgettable. Just once I would like to experience a love like that.
9 what's one Wattpad goal?
Well I'd love to become a Wattpad Star. I came quite close back in early 2019 when my book The Lost Valor of Love was being considered by Alibaba and Hibooks to be made into a full cast audio dramatization and they were angling for the audio rights. It went right up to the eleventh hour but the offer died in the last moment when there was a corporate reshuffle at Hibooks and the CEO quit and all the deals he had on his desk (mine included) were shelved with him.
10 what inspired you to write?
I have always been driven to write, but in the case of The Lost Valor of Love, it was from a dream I had while I was staying in Luxor, Egypt when I dreamed of a forbidden love affair that happened during the early reign of Ramesses II. It was as if the ghosts of those lovers were calling to me to chronicle their story. When I woke up it was so vivid, that I knew I had to write it down, this led to 5 years of historical research across four countries and the discovery that this indeed may well be a true story lost to the sands of time. It has since won a ton of awards both on and off Wattpad (some very prestigious) and I am thrilled to have been chosen to be the one to bring their story back to life.
11 what's your schedule regarding your writing?
When I am writing a book, it's get up, feed the cats, make tea and write for two hours. No. Matter. What. Writing always comes first. Some people can write in the dead of the night, but I am best in the hours around dawn.

I recently released my debut sci-fi, I Cassandra. which has been given stunning critical reviews. The BookLife Prize said: "Carter's sharp prose bolsters her intense plot. Her writing is both satisfying and disquieting, with natural dialogue and extraordinary worldbuilding." And "A stunningly innovative sci-fi novel, with just the right mix of romantic dystopia."
I have entered it into a number of very big contests outside of Wattpad and am hoping for the best. It is quite possibly my most powerful book to date
Why should someone consider reading it...?
What is the longest you have waited for love? A week? A month? A year? Longer? What about a love cast against the social divide, a dying world, the machinations of the mighty and powerful, and the erosion of time?
"I was on the edge of my seat..."
"Original and deeply satisfying..."
"E A Carter is already a master of epic fantasy romance, and she does not disappoint in her sci-fi debut..."
"Echoes of Oryx & Crake, Earth Abides, and Altered Carbon..."
"Ryan had me at 'smuggling cat food in his underwear'..."
...From Goodreads reviews
That's why.
