interview 3 @SAMiAMiz
1 what inspired you to write?
Whether it was through drawing comics or writing on a piece of paper, I loved story-telling. There's a Toni Morrison quote that really inspired me to want to become a writer: "If there is a book that you want to read, but it hasn't been written yet, you must be the one to write it."
2 what's your favorite thing about Wattpad?
That's a hard question. There's so much to love about Wattpad! I know one of them is being able to interact with other people who enjoy writing or reading as much as I do.
3 what's one Wattpad goal?
I'm hoping one day I get to experience one of the publishing opportunities Wattpad offers. I think that'd be a dream come true to see a story of mine in a bookstore or even on TV.
4 Are you still surprised when you get a new vote, follow or comment?
Oh, always! I honestly feel like my readers keep me humble with my writing. I write because I love it, of course, but I also write because of them. When I see my notifications, I get so excited because it just means there are still readers interested in exploring my story worlds.
5 what's your favorite holiday and why?
Halloween. Definitely, Halloween. I love seeing how creative people get with their costumes. I actually had a reader send a picture of their costume to my Instagram. They cosplayed one of my characters from Wattpad! That was just amazing!
6 what's your favorite snack?
I'm a total foodie so I have lots of favorites: Red vines, Beef jerky, Doritos. The list goes on. As long as it doesn't have nuts, bananas or strawberries. Thanks, Food Allergies.
7 how would you celebrate a publishing deal?
First, I'd cry. Happy tears, of course. Unfortunately, I can't cry pretty, so to whoever is around if I ever get that news: BEWARE. I'd then celebrate with family and friends at Lucille's BBQ because YUM.
8 what's a good piece of advice for a newcomer?
Patience. I know that sounds lame and overrated, but it's true. I posted my first story on Wattpad back in 2012 and didn't think anyone would read it. Fast forward six months later, I finished my story and the following day, my inbox and notifications exploded with Wattpad Users who were commenting on how I ended my book. They asked if there was a sequel which I didn't plan on but did anyway for them. Now that story is part of a six-story series. So if you are patient enough and keep writing because you enjoy it, someone will read it. Your story is something a reader is looking for, it is just a matter of WHEN that reader will come across it.
9 if you could hang out with your favorite celeb for a day, who would you choose and what would you do?
Tom Felton. I am a die-hard Harry Potter fan. And though his character was not well-liked, Draco Malfoy was my favorite. I'd love to have Tom teach me one of his songs on a guitar. His music is actually really good and very chill. Oh, and I share a birthday with him, BONUS!
10 how would you handle a bully?
Oddly enough, I've actually been bullied. It was part of the reason I was such a loner in high school and was so absorbed with my writing. As an adult though, I have confronted a few people who are insecure about themselves and feel the need to bully others. There was one time that this woman was bullying a teenager on their first day of work and I told her to back off. I stood up for the teenager who did not deserve to be harassed because this woman didn't get the answer she wanted. I don't stand for that. I'm small, but I'm mighty when I have to be.
11 Who is your favorite author?
Jane Austen is one of them. Pride & Prejudice was the first book my mother bought me when I was nine. I loved it so much! I fell in love with Mr. Darcy and Elizabeth. I think a contemporary author I enjoy is Jenn Bennett. She wrote "Approximately, Alex" and I LOVED IT. I've read it a thousand times (no exaggeration).
Request time
I guess I'd ask for readers to check out "Moon Bound" if you enjoy werewolf stories. There are mature themes though; language, etc., but readers seem to like it.
