interview #21 @StarbucksMocha

1 What's the best way to handle a bully?

This really depends. As someone who's experienced a lot of bullying (especially during high school), I found that there are different ways to deal with bullies. First, it is important to tell a teacher or parent because depending on your age you won't be able to handle it yourself. However, sometimes that just doesn't fix the problem. It didn't for me. What helped me was not reacting to their taunts and they eventually got bored because I wasn't giving them a reaction. Other times I learned that they were only bullying me because they thought I wouldn't do anything back. So while standing up for yourself can be hard, it's sometimes the only way to get them off your back.

2 Are you still surprised when you get a new vote, follow or comment?

Every. Single. Time. I honestly can't believe sometimes that people actually like my writing and want to read my stories. I can be my own worst enemy and be very critical of whatever I create so getting that vote, follow, or comment reminds me that I must not be doing so bad. I can't stop smiling whenever I see a comment saying that people love my characters or they find the plot interesting.

3 Who is your favorite author?

My all-time favourite author has always been J.R.R. Tolkien since I could remember. The Hobbit is my favourite book and I've had the same copy for fourteen years that I got from my grandmother.

4 What's one Wattpad goal?

I don't really have a specific goal. I would just love if even a couple of people finished my books and enjoyed it.

5 What's your favorite snack?

Doritos. I have no self-control around them.

6 What's your favorite holiday and why?

For anyone who knows me in real life and knows how I decorate my room or dress – Halloween is an obvious choice. And while I love that holiday, Christmas honestly means more to me because it's the one time of the year where my (giant) family all get together from the corners of the world and spend the holiday together.

7 What's a good piece of advice for a newcomer?

If you're a newcomer to Wattpad – keep a set uploading schedule. Go into the forums and not only advertise your work but also go to look for friends. I've met some amazing people joining book clubs or just going into the Café Forum to chat.

If you're a newcomer to writing – write everything. Even if you think it sucks, continue ploughing through until you finish that first draft. Don't get stuck on making it perfect and pretty while you're writing it. This is something that I struggle with all the time. Be open to criticism and don't take it personally when people don't like your writing. Not everyone will like your writing but doesn't mean that it's bad or that you should stop writing.

8 What's your schedule regarding your writing?

I joined a club where we have to write 500 words a day and report back. I have a personal goal of writing at least 1-1.5k a day. I have a spreadsheet where I can keep track of my word counts.

9 What inspired you to write?

I love books. I've always loved them. The idea of being able to transport people away to a world of your creating and have them connect to your characters has been my dream. Also, my characters are all bullheaded and if I don't write their story they bug my thoughts until I finally put pen to paper (or fingers to keyboard).

10 What's your favorite book?

The Hobbit will forever have a special place in my heart

11 What's your favorite thing about Wattpad?

The community here is my favourite thing about the site. Everyone's here for different reasons – to get reads on their books, to get feedback before trying to get published, just here to read. It's such a supportive community with wonderful people. Speaking off – feel free to message me anytime! I love meeting new people and making friends.

The one book I have posted onto Wattpad right now is – From Embers. It's a post-apocalyptic fantasy where five thousand years after the Four Horsemen almost destroy the world, humans have disappeared to live underground. Supernatural creatures who had to live in hiding in the Old World now live out in the open. However, humans are determined to finish what they started and regain control over the New World.

The story follows Jai-Jai, an untrusting and calculating woman with many secrets, has to choose between her dream of freedom or being trapped forever in order to stop the second apocalypse and mass extinction of supernatural creatures. With a dangerous past catching up to her present, Jai-Jai finds that keeping secrets which could bring the world to its knees is almost impossible.

One of my favourite comments about this book was - "I've truly never seen a story plot like yours. You have fairy's, dryads, vampires, dragons, trolls, etc. Totally unique in all ways. And it's the best. It's kinda like those delicious mints Olive Garden give you to clean your taste buds lmao."

While it isn't completed on Wattpad, it's very close to the end and I have most of the book already uploaded onto the site. I upload once a week currently.
