Chapter 6: Bella
I walked through the rotating doors and into the apartment building. Dam... this place was fancy. Orchids and leafy plants were potted next to cream leather couches. I crossed the immaculate white marble floor to the mahogany reception desk. Annabeth couldn't live here...
"Um, I'm here to visit Annabeth Chase?" I shifted nervously from foot to foot, preparing to be rejected.
To my relief (and surprise), however, the lady at the desk replied, "of course; she's in room six-ten." I thanked her and made my way towards the lift, afraid to even breathe in case I ruined the cleanliness of the place.
~~A short while later (because why would you want to know about her super exciting trip up the lift)~~
I knocked on the door, which swung open to reveal an Annabeth I'd never known. Her honey-blonde curls were loose and they cascaded like a waterfall of liquid sun down her back. Her dress was simple, unadorned and understated; its pebble-grey colour gradually faded to white as it reached just above her knee. Her legs needed no fake tan - anyone could see that the golden tint was natural. She wore the slightest bit of neutral makeup to make her storm-grey eyes stand out.
In short, Annabeth was beautiful, as usual, but in an entirely new way.
"Glad you could come," she said with a warm smile, and she motioned for me to follow her inside.
The apartment was packed with a mixture of people I did and didn't know. Everyone munched on crisps (that's chips to you Americans), tried to hog the Sonos controller, belted out the words to whatever song was playing. I grabbed a cookie (which looked kind of blue... must've been the lights) and seated myself on the couch.
I looked over at the guy next to me. Dayum, I thought to myself. He was gorgeous. He had messy jet-black hair (which I found so cute) and a deep tan. He turned around to face me, and he was even better looking from the front. His eyes were a deep turquoise, a sea green, and they twinkled like the ocean too. He gave me a smile, and I wondered how nobody looked as if they could hear my pounding heart.
"Hey," he said. I realised I had just been staring at him like a goldfish in response to his greeting. "Oh, uh, hi," I replied quickly, my face heating up. "I'm Bella."
"Percy."
"So," I began in an effort to make small talk, "how do you know Annabeth?"
"I'm her hus--er, boyfriend," he answered. Husband? Was Annabeth... no, she couldn't be... married?
Deciding not to pry, I merely nodded my head.
"You?" Percy returned my question.
"We go to college together," I explained. He acknowledged my response with a nod as I had done his.
I looked up to see Annabeth walking toward us.
"Hi, Seaweed Brain; hi, Bella," she greeted as she sat down next to us. I gave a small wave in return, while Percy smiled that dazzling, gentle smile.
"I see you've met my husband," she said to me. Well, there was confirmation. They were married.
"Wise Girl!" Percy protested. "You said to keep up the boyfriend/girlfriend act!"
Annabeth shrugged. "I figured it was going to get out somehow. I don't call you Seaweed Brain for nothing."
Percy put his hands to his mouth in mock hurt. I laughed. They were a cute couple, I had to admit.
By the time the party was over, I had learned a little about Percy and Annabeth's relationship. They had been friends for four years before they'd actually started dating, they had had a small wedding last August with just family, and the day before yesterday had been Percy's birthday, the day they had started dating and their 1-year wedding anniversary.
First impressions last, and I must say, that was a good first impression of Percabeth.
I know. Bad ending. Deal with it.
Okay people, I owe you an apology. I had this great plan to update on Percy's birthday, and then what did I do? I left my phone at my friends house. Typical Rose...
But anyway, hope this was an acceptable chapter! I was kind of in a hurry writing it but I might go back and edit it later.
Right, that's enough from me. Thanks again for reading!
