Chapter 5: Danielle
Me: Wow guys... 5th chapter, 10th part. I really need to start making my updates chapters!
Readers: Um... you never have any updates...
Me: Oh, shush.
This one is told by a demigod.
There was something about to happen. All of us Aphrodite kids could feel it. I partially hated these moments, because of the godsdam suspense, but also loved the air of excitement they created.
"What do you think it is?" I whispered to my half-siblings.
"Something big," replied Mitchell thoughtfully, who'd been at camp for longer than me.
"I know what it is!" Piper, the head of our cabin, squealed. She looked like she was about to burst with excitement. For once, her Aphrodite side was showing.
Gods, Piper, I thought. Just tell us!
I didn't have much of an appetite, so I ended up having a lot of offerings for the gods. I looked over at Piper pleadingly, but she just smirked and beckoned for me to follow her.
"It's going to make all the other campers look like Aphrodite kids, and the Aphrodite kids look like Wattpad fangirls," she told me excitedly.
"What?" I asked, puzzled, but Piper had already dashed away.
I walked down to the beach, where Piper and a couple of other campers were hiding behind a large rock.
"What are y-"
"Shh!" Piper pressed a finger to her lips and crouched even lower behind the rock. Slowly, she peered over the top and her eyes widened. "They're coming!" she whispered excitedly.
"Never thought I'd see the day you fangirled," I muttered. Piper sent me a mock-offended look, then turned back to whoever she was spying on.
I took a peep and I just about stopped myself from screaming.
Percy and Annabeth - the CHB couple - were on the beach, chasing each other. Percy finally caught Annabeth and started tickling her. Annabeth curled up into a ball, squealing "stop!" between fits of laughter.
"They are so adorable!!" Lacy whispered. She looked on the verge of a fangirl attack (symptoms include hyperventilating, high-pitched squealing and uncontrollable jumping up and down).
Oh gods... when he stood up, he had the face...
That nervous expression with a hint of excitement that no Aphrodite kid couldn't identify as...
The Proposal Face.
I tried to control my breathing and bouncing feet. All I could think was OHMYGODS OHMYGODS OHMYGODS PERCABETH!!!
Percy then grabbed Annabeth's hand and pulled her further and further into the ocean until they disappeared (presumably in an air bubble) below the surface.
"Danielle," Piper whispered. "Call all the campers down. Tell them to hide somewhere on the beach. Quick! Run!"
I didn't need telling twice. I sprinted from cabin to cabin, telling them all to hurry or they'd miss it.
We had just returned to the rock after giving all the campers their hiding places and teaching them the signal, when the couple resurfaced, laughing, and Percy used his powers to dry them both.
He felt in his pocket, let out a subtle sigh of relief and sat down on the sand next to Annabeth.
"So, uh, Annabeth..." Percy began nervously.
"You okay?" Annabeth asked, her voice suddenly full of concern.
"Yeah, I'm fine." Percy said this as if he were reassuring himself rather than her. He stood up and she did the same.
"Ugh," Leila, my half-sister, grumbled impatiently. "Just get to the point already!"
"I've had a twelve on you since - I-I mean, a crush on you since we were twelve," Percy started. "And, um, I love you..." Annabeth nodded and smiled encouragingly.
"So, would you... do me the honour of..."
He got down on one knee and, with a shaking hand, drew the velvet box from his pocket...
He took a deep breath...
"Marrying me?"
The world became silent. The whole of Camp Half-Blood held its breath. The very air itself was just hanging in suspense.
Annabeth threw her arms around his neck. "Yes, Percy. Oh my gods, yes!" The setting sun illuminated her grinning face, and tears smarted in her eyes.
Piper gave the signal, a complex hand gesture, and the hidden campers revealed themselves and began to cheer wildly. Percy and Annabeth, though surprised, maintained their broad grins.
Campers wished them luck; closer friends hugged them tight. As for us Aphrodite children? We let the fangirl syndrome take over.
Okay, I'm sorry. I don't know how to end stories, but we all know how the fangirl syndrome goes, so... yeah.
I might have to finish this book soon, but since it's the summer holidays now, I might be able to update a leetle more frequently.
For me, the idea of Percabeth getting married is cute, but it makes them seem so old. It's kind of a love hate relationship.
