4. Ham Sandwiches
Levy's POV
I woke up in the large bed again. The pillows were a different colour to when I last saw them, this time they were a light green with cream polka dots. Stretching, I rolled over in the covers and checked the clock on the bedside table.
"Eleven o'clock? Shift started..." I frowned. "Wait, aren't I on holiday?" Shrugging it off, I closed my eyes and took a deep breath before snuggling into the duvet.
'PING'
Groggily, I opened my eyes again and fumbled around for my phone. When I grabbed it, I sat up in the bed and unlocked it with my pass code.
MESSAGE FROM: Mira-Jane Strauss
'Hey! Just a reminder 2 let u no ur on holiday! xox '
MESSAGE TO: Mira-Jane Strauss
'Okay, thanks for reminding me xox'
My phone beeped again, but this time the message wasn't from Mira.
MESSAGE FROM: Lucy Heartfilia
'Levy! Meet me after work @ Tyrrels, BUG NEWS!!!!'
I giggled at Lucy's typo.
MESSAGE TO: Lucy Heartfilia
'I think you mean BIG news! I'll meet you then, 7pm? xox'
MESSAGE FROM: Lucy Heartfilia
'Sure xxx c u then'
Locking my phone, I swung my legs off of the bed and stretched my arms again. I stood up and decided to wear my strapless orange dress with attachable arms, then I fixed my hair so that it was in a ponytail and wore my yellow hairband.
There was a light knock at the door, "Come in!" I called out. Moments later, Juvia entered the room holding an array of clothing.
"Good morning Miss McGarden, well, Mrs Redfox." She smiled. "Mr Redfox has prepared some outfits for you to choose to wear."
"Oh that's really okay Juvia!" I put my hands out in front of me and shook my head. "I'm already dressed for today-,"
"Mr Redfox is out at a meeting today, so Juvia thinks that Mrs Redfox can wear whatever she wants, but..."
"But what?"
"But only if Mrs Redfox tries on all of the outfits like a mini fashion show for Juvia!" She clapped her hands and smiled, her eyes lighting up.
"...That actually sounds kind of fun!" Juvia and I both giggled and the rest of the day consisted of me trying on outfits and Juvia and myself deciding whether I suited them or not.
The first outfit was a black dress with ruffles around the waist and a short black coat. There were sunglasses and a matching black hat too.
"Juvia thinks...."
"Levy thinks that Levy looks awful." I took off the sunglasses and sighed. "It's too big for me and I look like I'm going to a funeral."
Juvia nodded. "Next!"
The next outfit wasn't as bad, but I'd never wear it. The same goes for the rest of the outfits, all except one.
The last outfit I tried on was decent. A white blouse with a black pencil skirt, with black high heels.
"Juvia thinks that Mr Redfox likes his women to look smart."
I felt like jumping back into bed and waking up from this bad dream. I still couldn't believe that this had happened.
"Juvia?"
"Yes Mrs Redfox?"
"Why did Redfox pick me? I mean, aside from my degree and past work, why? He doesn't know me, I'm a nobody who works at a cafe bar. Heck I don't even know what it is half of the time!" I said, falling backwards onto the bed. "I always dreamed of being caught up in some sort of adventure, a forbidden love, a mystery where I can solve it and become famous, or even get mixed up with something magical!"
Juvia was staring at me, her mouth open slightly as if she was about to say something but thought that she shouldn't.
"Silly right?"
"N-No..." Juvia began. "May Juvia call you Levy?"
"Sure."
"Well then Levy," Juvia sat beside me and smiled. "Juvia has dreams like that still. Juvia fell in love with a boy she met on a job to the west of Magnolia, he was on a job too so Juvia was unable to speak with him."
Juvia's eyes sparkled as she told me the story of how she met this guy. Explaining everything with detail. "So what colour was his hair again?"
"A raven black, but Juvia believed that if you looked close enough it was an extremely dark blue. Juvia could be wrong, but it is a possibility." Juvia sighed and fell on her back so that she was lying next to me. "If Juvia could see that boy again, Juvia would be so happy."
"When's your birthday Juvia?" She looked at me surprised.
"Why do you want to know Levy?"
"Just curious,"
"Well, hmmm." The blue haired girl thought for a moment then said, "Juvia thinks it's next week. If..." She mumbled to herself and finally nodded. "Yes, that's it."
I opened my mouth in shock, she thinks?!
A bell rang from a different room and Juvia sat up, her hair messy at the back. "Oh dear, oh dear Juvia has been here too long!"
"What's wrong Juvia?" I sat up next to her and ran my fingers through my hair.
"Mr Redfox is home!"
I looked at the clock on my bedside table and stood up when I realized that it was two in the afternoon. Time flew by fast.
"What should I do?" I asked straightening out my pencil skirt. "Do you think he'll want to see me or what?"
But before any of my questions could be answered, Juvia was out of the room in a flash and I was alone.
Great. I sighed then sat down at the small desk beside the window. There were small notebooks which looked like they had just been bought. Hesitantly I took one and opened it. It was one of the notebooks where on one page it was blank but on the other it was lined. There was a pot of pencils on the desk so I took one of the pencils and decided to write about what had happened to me.
How I was dragged into this marriage.
Almost got kidnapped.
Met the CEO's of two of the most famous companies in Fiore.
And how the man who is "married" to me seems to know everything about me.
Sighing I decided to check my phone. I never used to check it but I didn't have work so there wasn't much else I could do. When I checked my phone I rushed towards the bedroom door and grabbed my jacket.
MESSAGE FROM: Lucy Heartfilia
'Where are u?! xx'
MESSAGE TO: Lucy Heartfilia
'Sorry! I was busy with Juvia xxx Will be there soon xx'
As soon as I reached the front door and was reaching out to grab the handle, I was stopped by Redfox.
"Where are you off to?"
"To meet a friend." I retorted.
"Who is this friend? Lucy Heartfilia?"
"Y-yes." To be honest, I wasn't too surprised since he knew most things about me, but I was surprised that he guessed correctly straight away.
He looked down at me, looking at my outfit and at my hair. He took a breath then walked away. "You're not going."
"What?"
"You're not going."
"Why not?"
"Remember last time?"
"Well I'll go with Juvia."
He stopped. There was a few minutes of silence, but eventually he sighed and said, "Juvia will go with you." Clapping his hands, he called for Juvia but instead a different servant came.
"Sorry Sir," he said. "Juvia said that she was out buying food since the kitchen staff didn't have enough for dinner."
"Oh no," Redfox sarcastically said. "It seems that you can't go out and meet your friends."
I felt like saying something much worse, but I ended up saying, "Forget you," and I stormed off.
-----------
I called Lucy and apologized.
"Lucy I can't come, it's like I'm under some sort of house arrest." I wailed.
"Sure you can! You're in the room on the first floor right?"
I sat up in the desk chair. "Yes."
"The one with the window near the big tree?"
I looked out the window and confirmed what Lucy said was correct.
"Then open it and look outside." I opened the window and saw Lucy and Mira-Jane waving frantically at me. "Climb down the tree and get to the car!"
"I don't think I can."
"Don't worry, Elfman's here too, he says he'll catch you."
"Okay, if I die I want my gravestone to say-,"
"You won't die."
"Are you-,"
"Yes, I'm sure."
------------------------
Elfman caught me in the end and we all made our way to a little cafe called 'Rave Master Coffee'. I ordered a hot chocolate, Lucy ordered an espresso, Mira ordered green tea and Elfman ordered nothing except an iced bun.
"What's the news?" I asked, taking a small sip of my drink.
"Hm? Oh yeah!" Lucy squealed. "Okay, so you know that guy I thought was cute?"
"Yes?"
"Well-,"
"-He's a CEO of a company and she met him again last night at Fairy Tail and he asked for her number and she said yes and, and, and-!" Mira ran out of breath after interrupting Lucy.
"Basically, he wasn't manly." Elfman finished.
"Who was he? Well, who is he?"
"He says his name is Natsu!" Lucy beamed.
"Natsu Dragneel!?"
"Yeah that's him!"
"I've met him. Be careful with him, he seems like he'd go after any girl." I warned her.
"He was nice." She wailed. "He's not like the others!"
"Okay, I believe you." I smiled.
"How did you meet him?" Mira asked.
"He and Wendy Marvell picked me up yesterday when I went out." I explained what happened, but I left out the part where I was almost kidnapped. SO basically... I lied to them. I didn't want them worrying about me.
"He sounds so brave," Lucy said, in a little dream state.
We continued to chat for another hour before a tap on my shoulder made me wish I could vanish.
"Ahem."
That voice.... Craa-aaap.
"Hi Redfox." My hands covered my face as I made angry faces to relieve my stress.
"Darling, why did you leave when I asked you to stay for a drink?" He asked, sounding polite and nice. "Sorry you must be Levy's friends. The name's Gajeel Redfox, I assume that you're aware of Levy's situation?"
"Yes we're aware." Mira responded, her eyes as cold as ice. "May I ask why you didn't want Levy to come and meet us? Surely a drink shouldn't have stopped her from conversing with friends?"
"Levy and I haven't spent much time together," Redfox replied. "We were meant to talk but as you can tell, she slipped away and caused the whole house to be in a state of worry."
Mira and Redfox continued their interrogations until Mira finally gave in. "I... I can't say anything against that. Sorry Levy, we'll meet up soon, or skype us."
"Bye guys." I stood up and looked at Redfox. "Going back then?"
His face may have seemed like a smile to the others, but to me it was a silent message. When we get back you are dead.
-----------------------------
"I'm not going to dinner!" I yelled.
"Mrs Redfox plea-,"
"Stop calling me that!" Closing my door as an act of frustration, I turned the lock and stomped to the bathroom. "Redfox practically owns me, I hate this. It's so stupid. Why did I accept? I'll die within the month. I'll try to sneak out but he'll be there and stop me."
I decided to have a bath, I then thought of something.
If I make the water hot enough for me to melt away, would I actually melt and not have to go through with this?
Sadly no.
But the water did calm me.
By the time a servant knocked on my door, I had regained my composure and responded.
"Yes?"
"Dinner is almost ready."
"I'll have it in here, just bring a small plate."
"Small?"
"I'm not hungry."
"As you wish."
I changed into comfy and warm clothes, an oversized sweater and black leggings. The sweater had a sparkly fairy design on it and the black leggings were... you guessed it! Just plain black leggings. There were some books left on the bookshelf which I hadn't read, so taking the one with the plainest cover I jumped on to the bed and started to read.
I'd always taken the saying 'never judge a book by it's cover' seriously. And the book was brilliant. A girl trying to become a successful make-up artist gets a lucky break when she meets a dashing actor only a year older than her. They fight at the beginning but soon he falls for her and offers her a job. She accepts of course and then she falls for him. When he is nominated for an award and then wins it, he mentions her in his victory speech and blah blah blah they kiss and get together.
After I finished the book I thought, why would Redfox have a romance novel like this?
"Maybe he's got some sort of thing for romance novels?"
"Mrs Redfox, your meal." I got up and unlocked the door only to find,
"Redfox?!"
"Yup."
In his hand was a plate of ham sandwiches.
"Ham sandwiches?"
"They're nice, and Juvia's not back yet." He frowned. "Sol said that she called earlier but he's crazy."
I giggled. "You really don't care if any of your staff hear you?" Taking a ham sandwich from the plate, I opened the door further to let him in. Redfox entered the room and walked over to the desk where he put the plate down.
"Of course I don't, it's banter."
"Banter?"
"Friendly arguing."
"I thought CEO's were above that."
"Well most CEOs who I know are childish. Natsu for example." Redfox sat down and took a sandwich.
"What do I do?"
"Huh?"
"I mean, I'm pretending to be your wife yes? How should I act when business people come over?"
"How you usually act, but more... More..."
"Snobbish?"
"No, no not that..."
"Act like I'm better than non-CEO people?"
"No!"
"Like you?"
"Definitely no."
"Then how should I act?"
"Like my wife." With that, Gajeel stood up and left the room. "Goodnight honey."
"Night."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Ham sandwiches are the best midnight snack.
I'm telling you.
Seriously.
