○ Chapter 05 ○

After lunch we head back towards the parking garage. The rest of it went smoother. I told Logan about the news stories I could remember. Which celebrities died, and what laws were changed. I told him about his family and his sister's pregnancy announcement. That one he wasn't too happy about.

We talked for hours, getting to know all of the things we missed out on during those long nine months. He told me about things that happened on the boat, who he was mad at and would not be welcome to our summer barbecue. I roll my eyes as he lists the names off, realizing how many of their wives had helped me through our situation.

But I listened and I allow him to talk about whatever he needed to.

Once we make it back to the car, he takes the passenger seat. This wasn't normal for him as he always wants to drive. I pause for a moment, realizing what he was doing.

"You don't want to drive?" I ask, double checking myself before I open the drivers side door.

"No, I have a beautiful wife that drives really well, and honestly It's been nine months without watching you work a stick, I'm ready to see it." He winked, jumping into the car. My face flush a deep red, and part of me wants to gag. I love this man so much, and I couldn't help but laugh at his disgusting joke as we stand in the parking garage alone.

"You wish!" I cackle, opening the door and finally taking my seat in the car. "Don't say anything like that around the kids, everytime you come back they are older and know more things." He cocks his head toward me, leaning against the side of the door.

"Well then maybe you might just have to pull over somewhere so I can get this out of my system," He winks again and I could feel the emotions tingling inside my body. It'd been so long, and it was such a hard thing to just give up. But I pull out of the parking spot and send the car barrelling down the ramp until I can find a nice private spot for my husband and I to reconnect.

"Daddy!" The kids shout as they run through the field towards the car. The excitement in their voices was enough to make the whole thing worth it. They would always be able to go to the nicest school, have a safe home, and play at the safest parks thanks to Logan's job. We could live on base, or off base, it didn't matter. We were financially stable enough to support them in everything they needed.

Logan crouches down to get on their level as the two kids come rushing towards him, barreling like a bat out of hell, ramming into my husband knocking him onto the ground. I winced, looking up at the moody clouds that had been brewing on this side of town all day. Watching the mud as it covers the back of my husbands uniform.

"Shit." I muttered to myself.

I hadn't brought him a change of clothes this time like I usually did. So now he would have to sit on the emergency blanket that was in the back seat until we got home.

It didn't matter though. The kids were out of school, and lucky for them, we pulled them out extra early to spend some time with there dad before they had to do homework and bath time.

I knew they wouldn't complain, as the tears roll down their faces, and the air is filled with nothing but laughter. My heart was buzzing like a beehive filled with so much love it felt like it was going to explode.

How could something get more pure and sweet?

Logan picks himself up off the ground heading towards the car.

"Let's get you monsters home so we can really play around!" He shouts as the kids hold onto his legs, wrinkling his blue uniform even further. I clap my hands a couple of times getting their attention the best I can. Obviously Logan was the star of the show.

"Kids, come on let's get in the car. The sooner we get home the sooner you guys can play." Apparently that was all I had to say. They both immediately let go of their father and rush towards the car, leaving him in a cloud of dust. I close the distance between the two of us, giving him a quick kiss before helping him brush his back off the best he could. He shakes his head turning to look at me.

"I know, I'll grab the blanket." He smiles.

"I'm going to get you!" I hear Logan shout as he rushes through the house, chasing one of the kids into their bedroom. Screams and giggles were echoing throughout the entire apartment, filling it up with love and joy.

"The chicken is almost ready!' I shout, hoping they would be able to hear me over whatever game it was they had decided to start playing. Logan comes rushing into the kitchen, his socks sliding on the wood floor as the kids follow his lead.

"Sweet, is it ready for the sauce?" Logan asks, trying to fend off a violent little boy from climbing up his leg and play wrestling him to the ground. I nod my head.

"Okay guys, one minute, I have to help your mom for a second with dinner. So how about this, you guys go find your best hiding spot, and the last one to be found wins." The kids shout one more time before rushing off to wherever they are going to hide.

Logan is obviously out of breath as he stumbles towards the stove. I could feel the smile growing on my face, my mind so occupied by dinner that I almost missed how beautiful my family was.

My husband must have had slippery hands because before I could even register it, his hands were on my hips. His body pressed gently against mine as he pushed me into the counter a little bit harder. My heart was pounding in my chest. But it didn't' take long for his lips to be against my neck. Kissing a small trail of fire up the back of my spine, before he twists me around and plants them firmly on my lips. His hands slip down my waist and find their new home on the bottom of my butt, pulling me into him even further.

I pull away and whip him with the towel in my hand. He shakes his head as if he were in a daze and smiles.

"You look amazing," He whispers, his hot breath dancing on the edge of my skin. I shiver under his words, wishing he would say more, but knowing I wouldn't be able to handle it.

"Get the sauce on the chicken," I smile, kissing him quickly before moving away from him. He smiles, turning around to grab the packet on the counter.

"You know, that sounded kind of dirty when I first heard it, and if it was meant to be then you are weird." He chuckles opening the packet and mixing it in to the pan. We were having orange chicken and fried rice tonight, the thought of having to do both at the same time had scared me so I was lucky to have Logan home to help me out.

"It wasn't meant to be dirty." I laugh, allowing the sound to escape my lips without a fear in the world.

"Alright the chicken is done, what else can I help you with before I go find those little demons of ours." I point towards the cabinet with the plates. He nods his head grabbing four of them before setting them on the counter. He mixes the chicken one last time making sure it's all coated in the sauce before placing the lid on it to keep it warm and shutting off the stove.

"Go find them so we can eat. I'll get the table ready." Logan looks at me for a moment before taking a few steps out of the kitchen.

"Are you sure you don't need anything else?" I nod my head and he turns on his heel, making his way towards the bedrooms. "I'm going to get you!" He shouts. A couple of snickers echo and I immediately know the kids had hid together. They were probably staring at each other under our bed, and when he shouted they couldn't contain it allowing a small little bit of laughter to slip from their lips.

There was nothing better in this world than a big happy family.

"Daddy, did you have to fight anybody while you were away?" Marcus asks as he shovels a spoonful of his chicken into his mouth. Mazie was on the edge of her seat, forgetting to touch her food as she waits for her father to answer the question.

"No, fighting people is bad and I don't do that," Logan comments, taking his very own bite of food. He leans back in his chair holding his stomach for the fifth time since we sat down to eat.

"What is it not good? Did I lose my touch?" I chuckle, taking a large bite of the rice. Allowing the food to mingle with my tastebuds. This was my favorite meal in the whole world.

"No it's amazing to have home cooked meals again. My stomach is very greatful to not be eating on the boat." He pats his stomach before shoveling another large bite into his mouth. We'd only been sitting down for a little over fifteen minutes and he's pretty much already finished his plate.

"Is all of your homework done?" I ask the kids, hoping they would answer with a yes. I wasn't really in the mood to help them with it tonight. But on the other hand I didn't want to be the one doing the dishes either. I sigh, reminding myself that Logan has been away and I will end up doing the dishes for the night so he can help the kids.

"Yep, mine is." Mazie was the quickest to answer. She knew before I even asked that it was going to be brought up.

"I thought we didn't have to do it tonight, since we weren't going to school tomorrow?" I froze in my seat. Holding the fork high in the air as I look across the table at the little boy.

"Who told you that you weren't going to school tomorrow?" My eyes switch between Marcus and Logan, watching carefully to see who would break first. It didn't take long for Marcus to hold his hand towards his father, pointing at the reason we were now in this mess.

"No sweetie, you have to go to school tomorrow. It's almost the weekend you guys will have plenty of time to play with your dad then," I felt my heart break. I really wished Logan wouldn't do these things. I had to keep the kids on their schedule and tomorrow was only Thursday. If I didn't make them go then what would the point be of sending them on Friday.

"But mom!" Marcus shouts, Logan takes my hand in his realizing the mistake he had made.

"I'm sorry buddy, but I'll help you with your homework tonight and I will be there to pick you up tomorrow." I hate hearing Logan make promises like that. He would have the next month off so sure he would be around for a little bit, but soon he would be back to work.

What the kids didn't know though, as we were soon going to go on a family vacation. The same trip we always did every time Logan came home from a deployment.

This time though, we were leaving this weekend and taking an extra week to really get to all of his family and mine. There was so much we had to catch up on.
