Wedding

The day was finally here.

It had been a long time coming, delayed even further by the surprise pregnancy and birth of their daughter.

But finally, Emmett and Natasha were getting married.

Liam, being Emmett's Best Man, was in charge of any last-minute heavy lifting that was needed. With the venue being outdoors, some things couldn't be set up until the last minute.

Overlooking a cliffside, it was a location the couple had stumbled upon while running one morning. Naturally, Liam had comments about it, but a single glare from Natasha shut him up.

So he, along with the rest of Emmett's party (which consisted of a few other Ninjas, Rooster, and some old Navy friends) got the chairs set out and the arch up as others added the finishing touches to the decor.

Natasha's sister, acting as her Maid of Honor, was in charge of keeping her sister calm. Well, Natasha was actually fairly calm; it was more so keeping her from stressing about any and all last-minute details.

That and helping wrangle her daughters. Genevieve was the flower girl, being eight years old now. But her baby sister was quite literally a baby. Only a few months old, so she was definitely a challenge for the day.

Not to worry, Natasha's parents had promised to take the girls for the night so the newlyweds could actually have their wedding night.

(Liam had made a comment about that ship having sailed, looking straight at their baby as he did so. Emmett slapped him on the back of the head for it.)

But soon enough, it was time. The weather was perfect, the sun was in the correct position, and everyone had arrived.

It was showtime.

Emmett stood at the front of the makeshift aisle, dressed smartly in a suit. Both he and Nat had decided to forgo any traditional Navy elements, wanting to separate themselves from that part of their lives for this day.

(They had given their Navy friends the option to wear their uniforms if they wanted. It wasn't something they were requiring.)

The bridesmaids and groomsmen begin making their way down the aisle, with Genevieve following just before Natasha was set to walk.

She was escorted by her father, happy tears in both her and Emmett's eyes.

She was a vision of beauty, although Emmett always thought that. But for many people in attendance, this was the first time they had ever seen Natasha in a dress, much less for such an important occasion.

But as she made her way towards her soon-to-be husband, she didn't care about any of that. All she could think of was finally marrying the man she loved.

One of the many Ninjas in attendance, the couple had decided to have Daniel Gil officiate their wedding. (He was, after all, a pastor already. So no need for someone to get certified online. Hey, it was a win for them.)

"We are gathered here today to join Emmett Knight and Natasha Trace in the bonds of marriage. Many of us know of their love story, and how they overcame many odds to finally arrive at this point. Distance and time were not always on their side, but these two made it work. That kind of love and dedication can only create a bond so strong nothing can tear it apart."

Those around were smiling, many remembering different parts of their relationship.

"And I do believe these two have written their own vows. So, without further ado, Emmett, please."

Emmett takes Natasha's hands in his own before looking into her eyes and speaking.

"Natasha. When we met, I wasn't looking for love. Hell, I wasn't even looking for a friend. I was quite literally just running, and you happened to block my path. And I have never been more grateful you did. You showed me what I was missing in life. I was surviving, yes. But I wasn't living. And you helped me live." He smiled at her, already watching as the tears began to rise in her eyes.

"You took my highs and lows in stride. You didn't let me back away when things got tough. You held me accountable when I was in the wrong, which, let's be honest, happened a lot at the beginning." That got plenty of laughs out of people.

"But most of all, you welcomed my daughter into your life and your heart. You didn't balk at the fact that I had a child. You made it your mission to get to know her. And you became the one thing I never wanted to pressure you into. You became her mother. And that is something I can never thank you enough for."

At this point, Natasha was getting very teary-eyed.

"So I promise to love, cherish, and run through life with you for the rest of our lives."

Natasha took the handkerchief her sister offered, dapping at her eyes.

"How am I supposed to follow that?"

The guests laughed, many wondering the same thing.

Daniel smiled at her. "Well, you're about to try. Natasha, your vows."

She took a deep breath. Releasing it, she tightened her grip on Emmett's hands.

"Emmett. I never expected you to show up in my life. I was a woman in a highly male dominated field, and that tended to put men off of a relationship with me. But not you. Never you. You saw what I did and dove head first into supporting me in anything I needed. You were never intimidated or worried. Well, you always worry, but that's natural."

She stopped for a moment, Emmett laughing as that was very true.

"You showed me it was possible to have a fulfilling relationship despite being away for long periods of time. You were always there when I had time off and always ready to communicate when I had a moment to spare."

A breath was taken, trying to keep her tears fully at bay.

"But most of all, you gave me a family. I can honestly say that I wasn't expecting a child when we started dating. But Genevieve quickly became someone I would do anything for. You and Gen are my world. You have been since we met. And I don't think there are words to express just how happy you both have made me over the years. And now, we get to add to that family, with this little bundle of joy that joined us only a few months ago."

Her mom waved the baby's hand towards her parents at the front, both of them waving back to her and Gen.

"So I promise to love, cherish, and run through life with you for the rest of our lives."

Daniel waited for a moment before looking at their parties. "May we have the rings?"

The rings were passed to their respective people. Natasha slid the ring onto Emmett's finger first, smoothing out his hand after she did so.

Emmett, having moved Natasha's engagement ring to her opposite hand, slif on her wedding ring, bringing her hand up to his lips for a quick peck.

Smiling behind them, Daniel makes it official. "By the power vested in me, I pronounce you husband and wife." Turning to Emmett, he tilts his head with a large smile. "You may kiss the bride."

And Emmett wastes no time, quickly kissing his now wife. Natasha smiles into the kiss, both pulling away shortly.

Turning back to their friends and family, the newlywed couple clasped hands and listened to the applause. And quickly enough, they walked down the aisle, hand in hand, finally joined together.

It was the perfect day for an event years in the making.
