TWELVE. EDGE OF GREAT

Destiny had rushed into the living room the moment she had found her mother's notebook, she brought her computer with her and sat down on the couch, her eyes searching for any type of word that would be able to help her out in this whole ghost situation, her laptop had the image of Sunset Curve, there were a few moments that Destiny felt anger when her eyes saw Bobby's face next to the band, but anger shouldn't have been taking over her, she had to find empathy, there had to be a reason why Bobby or Trevor stole all of Sunset Curve songs and didn't give out credit.

"What are you doing?" Kendall's voice made Destiny jump on her seat shutting her laptop that made the older sibling wince.

"Nothing, just school stuff." Destiny cleared her throat and opened her laptop slowly, checking if she hadn't damaged it.

"But with mom's stuff? Why do you need mom's stuff?" Kendall walked closer, his fingers tracing the covers of notebooks and books.

"It's a project about the afterlife." Destiny didn't look up at her brother but instead, she focused on the books in front of her.

"Funny," Destiny now looked at him with furrowed eyebrows "They never let that type of homework when I was in school, what subject was this for?"

"None of your business, now can you let me focus on my things." Destiny grabbed the notebook Kendall had picked up, she didn't mean to come off as rude, but, the least she wanted was Kendall to get into this business.

"Woah, okay, what is happening right now?" Kendall backed up, his facial expression was filled with confusion and surprised, he grabbed another book from the table before letting Destiny grab it first, he read the title, Mediums and open mind. "What are you doing Des? I thought we had talked about this already." Destiny didn't answer, she didn't even look up at him. "Des, I need you to tell me, what are you doing with this?"

"I am just looking for some answers, that is all I can tell you." Destiny knew her brother wouldn't understand even if she tried to explain with drawings or anything like that.

"Answers? You don't need answers for stupid things like this Destiny, you are starting to sound like mom and she left us. You don't need this." Kendall's voice wasn't as cheerful or kind, his tone was angry.

"Can you just let me do what I need to do?" Destiny hid her face behind the computer screen, she didn't want her brother to see her eyes tearing up just by the mention of their mother leaving.

"Destiny, don't do anything stupid that will end up hurting you, you don't want to go down that road, I don't want you to go all crazy as mom did, I don't want to lose you." Destiny sniffled, she was crying, she heard her brother walk away, and then she let out the muffled cries, she grabbed the pillow beside her and finally cried.

It made her cry whenever she remembered that day she didn't find her mother but instead she found the little note that just said she couldn't take it anymore, she remembered the days her mother would fight with her dad because she was so consumed with the ghost stories and how slowly she wanted to find the ghosts she couldn't contact. But right now, she needed her mom, maybe she had answers for this, she had no idea how to help the ghost band, this is the first time she even saw spirits, she never believed in the ghost stories, it was understandable.

"Des? Are you okay?" Reggie's voice was heard next to her, the brunette wiped her tears off her cheeks, looking away from the bass player. "Is everything okay?" Destiny felt him near, she felt his energy around her, safety, kindness, she felt safe.

"Just family things, but I will be okay, thank you Reggie." Destiny hadn't looked at him yet, she didn't want him to see her this vulnerable. "What's up? What happened?"

"Um, I just came to check on you before the performance at Julie's, I had a feeling that you needed to see someone, I think I had a right feeling about it? Unless you want to be alone?" Reggie appeared in her sight, the white skin and blue eyes looking back at her, he had a sweet, kind, small hidden smile and a glimmer on his eyes.

"It's okay, you can go, the band needs you." Destiny cleared her throat and smiled fakely at him.

"Well, I think there's someone else who needs me the most." Destiny chuckled, nodding her head in agreement, she didn't want to ask him to stay, she felt like that was too needy, but Reggie wanted to be here.

"Thank you, Reggie, and if the band asks, I will take all responsibility for it." Destiny added but Reggie just said it wasn't necessary. "Yeah but I want to okay, you don't have to stay but you're doing it, you're taking time to check on me, and for that I am thankful." Destiny whispered the last words to him. "I found some notes that my mom had, I had found some things that might help us, and there are things you guys can do and first and most importantly be respectful." Destiny explained, Reggie sat on the floor and looked at her nodding his head, understanding what he had to do.

"Reggie, hey," Out of nowhere Alex and Luke appeared in her living room too, stopping when they noticed Destiny too. "Oh, sorry, did we interrupt something?" Alex asked, a clear smile on his lips and Luke nudging him.

"Are you guys performing any time now?" Destiny asked leaning back, she didn't even know what time it was and she had to be there too, she wanted to see Julie before the show.

"No, not yet, just we're rehearsing, and Reggie kind of left, but it's okay, we see that he was needed." Luke was now the one to speak, just like Alex, he was smiling widely at him.

"Well, this is something more of a group talk but today is not the day to do so, I guess we can raincheck on this? How are you guys doing?" Destiny asked looking at the boys but they just looked at her confused "I saw Reggie having some type of purple flash and lots of pain, and he told me you guys don't know what it is but the sensation is awful."

"Well, we are doing okay right now, we don't know either, but whatever it is, it's a terrible sensation." Alex shifted on his spot, whatever it was, it made the boys sad, they didn't want to remember it.

"Well, you guys can go, I'll see you all later." Destiny stood up at the same time Reggie did, they were standing too close that made the brunette chuckle nervously "Excuse me." She added and took a step aside, she saw the three boys vanish out of her living room and this meant for Destiny to get ready for the big show.

Daylight slowly started to hide, Destiny and Kendall arrived at Julie's place, she begged him to take her and stay for the show, Kendall had liked the previous performance so he didn't turn down the invitation, arriving Destiny saw people from her school, some of them were classmates from band, and others she just didn't recognize as Julie's friends, but the more the better.

"I'm gonna go and look for Flynn, think you'll survive here just for a second?" Destiny turned to look at the older sibling, he shrugged but he wouldn't say no to her. Destiny walked away and made her entrance to the Molina's household, people were inside too, grabbing drinks or even snacks. "Flynn, thank god." The brunette let out a relieved sigh when the girl came from a corner.

"Hi, girl, oh, I am so glad you made it." Flynn pulled her into a hug, and Destiny felt so much joy. "You look spectacular." She commented after pulling her away and looking down at her outfit. Ripped jeans with combat boots and a strapless black floral top, her hair was wavy and loose. "Oh, we better go, the band is about to play and we need eye candy." Flynn was too excited that she didn't let Destiny respond to any of her compliments but she understood, and, she was excited too, seeing the band play again, to dance and sing with them, she just couldn't wait.

"Oh Flynn, this is my brother Kendall, Kendall this is my friend Flynn." Destiny introduced them when Kendall had walked over to them, they greeted each other and turned their attention back to the front of the garage, Flynn excused herself and grabbed the mic, ready to introduce Julie and the Phantoms.

Julie walked out of the garage, she looked amazing, her outfit was so beautiful that Destiny was even considering asking to borrow it, Destiny applauds and cheer at her, Flynn stood next to her and did the same for Julie, both girls looking at her happily. The notes from the piano started and Julie joined in with her beautiful voice, Destiny looked at her in aw, her dreams coming true, she was gaining back her confidence, something she valued so much from Julie.

Then the drum was heard, seconds later the boys appeared with their instruments playing alongside Julie, the singer joined and danced next to them, the crowd gasping in shock, Destiny and Flynn smiled at each other, they were used to this, to see them perform now. Julie sang next to Reggie and Alex but avoided at all cost seeing Luke, Destiny didn't know how to react, to chuckle, or to ooh by Luke's facial expression of sadness and confusion. Destiny joined on the chorus sometimes or even on some lyrics she memorized from hearing Julie rehearsing or mumbling during recess.

Destiny bopped her head at the rhythm of the music, she waved her arms and danced a bit, seeing Julie getting on top of the piano and singing beautifully the lyrics of the song, Luke walked over joining in with a guitar riff, finally Julie and Luke stared at each other, their eyes softened and Julie's smile appeared on her face, Destiny just leaned onto Flynn and giggled. The music picked up again, but Luke didn't let that moment be their last one, when the band disappeared behind them Luke walked over next to Julie to sing the last lyrics and vanishing afterward. Whooping, applause and so much joy filled the backyard.

"Thank you all for coming, we are Julie and the Phantoms, tell your friends." Julie said to the microphone, music was played on the speakers and the curly-haired girl made her way over to her friends. Destiny and Flynn hugged her tightly and jumped around celebrating the amazing performance they just witnessed.

"Do you want to stay for a while? Please?" Julie looked over at Destiny, making her best puppy eye impression, the teenager turned back to see her older sibling nodding his head in agreement. And for the girls it was gonna become a night to remember.
