FIFTEEN. STAND TALL
Destiny didn't know how she was going to apologize to her father for what she was doing, running away to see her friends play at The Orpheum, it was an insane idea, but there was no turning back now, she was only a house away from Julie's house.
"Destiny, you heard the news I assume." Julie's dad called out for her. "Do you need a ride to the concert?"
"That would be great actually, thank you so much Mr. Molina." She added and headed to the backdoor towards the garage, opening the door she saw the three guys talking .
"Hope I am not interrupting something." She said with a smile on her lips.
"Destiny, you heard the news." Alex said with a huge smile, the brunette only nodded in response. "We are doing this, and not gonna lie, it is very nerve wracking."
"I can't imagine how you guys feel, but I am happy that you are doing this, I don't want to get all emotional but, if this is the last time I see you all," Destiny could feel the knot in her throat already. "Thank you, you made me believe in ghosts and that there's good music out there." The guys chuckled at the kind words of the teenager.
"Well, we were just planning the setlist of tonight, or maybe just sing a song or two but we were still choosing, we only got interrupted by one of those bolts again." This time it was Luke who spoke. "Any answers on that book of yours of what is happening to us?"
"Not yet I am sorry, but I have my mom working on that and I will continue to look." Behind them the doors opened and entering was Julie looking happy at the group until she wasn't.
"What's wrong?" Julie asked. "I got you something Destiny, in case you need a change." She lifted a hanger with clothing hidden under a bag, the brunette walked over taking it happily after greeting her friend.
"I'll go change, I think you guys need to talk." Giving them a space Destiny headed to the inside of their home, Mr. Molina showed her the way to a bathroom letting the young one to change.
Destiny opened the bag to look at a beautiful off the shoulder ruffle red dress, it seemed that Julie knew she would loved it, quickly changing out of her clother into the new attire Destiny looked at herself in the mirror, her shaggy and a bit greasy hair was up in a high bun, letting her bangs free over her forehead. Her phone buzzed a few times, her attention rushed to the screen noticing the missed call from her father and text messages from both of her parents, she would call back, as for her mother's messages she did answer.
I'll be at the Orpheum, please, if you found something meet me there.
With the sent button she hoped her mom could help her, that there was a solution for this, a few seconds passed by and the honking of the vehicle made its notice that Julie and Destiny had to leave. With the whole family tagged along and ready to head to the angeles theather, the nerves were high, excitement up to the roof.
"Julie, I got something to tell you, it probably isn't anything serious but I had like some kind of vision, I never had anything like it before so I wouldn't read too much to it." Destiny started explaining to her friend in the backseat, her voice whispering to their conversation could still be private.
"Yeah?" Julie's voice was a mixture of confusion and a bit of terror, which Destiny wouldn't blame her.
"Julie should I park out front or where would I drop you off first?" Mr. Molina's voice interrupted their conversation briefly, Julie told him where to park and drop the teenagers off, for Destiny perhaps this wasn't the time to make and feel Julie nervous, perhaps the vision wasn't too big, she only hoped for that.
Destiny followed behing Julie as they were greeted by one of the backstage boys who escroted them to a green room, the place was big and it had couches around the place, night tables and mirrors, a table agaisnt the wall with diverse food choices for them to snack.
"I'll be back to let you know when you have to be on stage." The blonde boy closed the door letting the teenagers take it all in.
"Wow, this is actually happening, oh god." Julie sighed and turned to look at Destiny. "You look very nice by the way, I forgot to tell you."
"Thanks, and thank you for this, you didn't have to." Julie waved her off and chuckled. "About what I said before, it was something like I saw a little accident, so be careful with cables when you're on stage." Destiny didn't want to talk about it, not yet.
"That's fine, thanks for letting me know and for your worry, I will change into my dress and get ready before hitting the stage." With that being said Julie walked over to a bathroom inside the room with her clothes on her hand.
A high alert sensation shivered down Destiny's spine, a feeling of being watched made the brunette look around with caution, no one was there, she was alone, and the only logical thing that came to her mind to do was call out for whoever was there.
"Okay, who is it?" She whispered turning around in hopes that there would be someone. "I can sense you, I know you're out there." Adding to that she was on high alert. "Come on out."
"You need to walk away from this Destiny." A masculine vice echoed around the teenager, the voice seemed to come out from inside her head instead of around her. "Walk away."
The voice was intimidating, chilling to her spine and to her own breathing, she could feel her whole body in alert.
"Are you okay? Des?" Julie walked out the bathroom, her voice with concern, the brunette cleared her throat and faked a smile.
"Everything's okay, just can't believe this is happening for you guys, it feels surreal." Destiny chuckled. "You look amazing by the way, a true popstar Julie."
"Thank you Destiny, I'll just finish on this whole makeup and be ready for the stage."
With that said Julie did her thing while Destiny looked at her friend's reflexion a few times, mesmerized at the sweetness and beauty of her friend, a little squeeze was felt in her heart, how was she going to tell Julie that something felt odd, as is something was wrong, or that something bad would happen.
Interrupted from her thoughts Destiny and Julie turned to the door welcoming Flynn into the room. Her sparkly smile matched perfectly with her attire.
"Holograms are good to go, boss." Flynn said, her eyes following and noticing Destiny's presence in the room. "Hello Des, looking amazing."
"I'll be back in a few minutes to walk you to the stage." The backstage boy named Rob said and left the teenagers alone in the dressing room.
"You see this backstage pass? I had sushi with Brandon Urie." Flynn happily exclaimed, both Julie and Destiny smiled at her words, Julie added saying she almost threw up on the way here, which was fifty percent true, she did say she was feeling nauseous.
Flynn continued on sharing how she made friends with the techs of the venue and what they were planning on doing, then her tone changed as she looked around. "The guys are here, right?"
Julie's posture turned back to the mirror, her smile dropping. "I haven't seen them."
"Wait, you don't think they changed their mind and took Caleb's offer, do you?"
"I don't think so, they know the consequences of accepting it, they wouldn't do it to Julie." Destiny said crossing her arms over her chest when the words Flynn said reached her ears. Julie agreed saying it was the last thing they wanted, but there was fear in her eyes, the possibility that they could've accepted it still existed, doing such thing to stay on earth for a while more.
Behind her Flynn stood, sharing words of encouragement. "We should get some snacks, want any Destiny?" Flynn asked looking at the brunette's reflection. Nodding her head the three teens headed to the small table in the room, picking up different candies and sours like popcorn and chocolates as they waited for Rob to barge in and call them.
Minutes passed by and the door was heard from the other side, Rob opened it and a woman stood behind him, Destiny knew who it was, her mother.
"Someone is looking for Destiny?" He questioned, the teenager stood up and excused herself heading outside to talk with her mother, she noticed the book in her hands and the anguish expression through her face.
"Whoever is this person who gave the boys the stamp, they're messing with dark magic." Her mother said, not giving a chance for Destiny to even ask what she had found. "That stamp had been used for centuries, what it does it begins killing their last piece of humanity they have left, absorbing the souls to hand it over to its creator."
"What, and how can we reverse it?" Destiny asked, her heart beating fast against her chest.
"Well, I found a way to slow this procedure, not vanish it completely unless there's an emotional connection or something and the stamp will trabel to some other person or object, but right now, I can slower this thing to absorb their souls. I haven't seen dark magic in years, your grandmother knew more and saw a man loose himself to such power, if she were here, she would know what to do."
"Then what do we need to do?" Destiny asked looking down at her mother's book. "Do we even know they're still here? Have they crossed over?"
"They haven't, I peeked around, their vibral sensations are still here, I know this because the last time I saw Reggie I asked him to leave something for me, anything that could help us, he gave me this bracelet he wears, think of it like a locator, and as for Julie, don't tell her what is happening and what are we going to do, I don't want to give her false hope, we don't know if this is going to work."
"Is Julie still in there?" Rob asked as he walked down the stairs, with positive response the blond knocked on the door. "Hey, Julie, it's time." He then walked away a few steps after hearing Julie's words but still staying close.
"What am I going to do mom?" Destiny asked her tone serious.
"We are doing something from this book, we just need some place private or isolated, that can," Interrupted by the door, Destiny and Wendy saw Julie rushing out the door, a few cries were heard from the teenager.
"Julie." Destiny called out as Flynn rushed out, Rob beside them ask about her destination, Flynn and Rob followed behind, Destiny ready to do so was stopped by her mother.
"Mom, I need to go and check on Julie."
"I know, but this could be the time to do the spell, you're a witch honey just like me, but you don't have the same experience that I do, you need to practice this spell first, I'm sorry."
Wendy Brennan pulled her daughter up the stairs and headed backstage to a dark corner, with the help of the girl's cellphone flashlight the older woman opened the book to where a bookmark laid, Destiny looked at the words, differents spells and drawings with recipes to potions that she supposed where written all over the pages.
"Okay, what I see here is a spell to remove dark magic but pressing into the person's or in this case spirtis, memories of their living lives, or their happy moments, this is to bring their humanity back." Destiny paid attention to every word her mother said, to the way her fingers trailed on the words on the page.
"Okay, I'll put this right here, I've learned the spell already just repeat after me." Wendy placed the book on the floor between her feet and her daughter's and taking her hands with hers. "Spirits bound by shadows deep, Evil's grip, now break and sweep. Moonlight guide and starlight gleam, Free these souls from darkened dream." Destiny repeated the words after her, slowly and attentively.
"Again." The words were repeated twice before Wendy chanted an addition paragraph to the spell.
From the corner of her eye Destiny saw Julie rushing to the stage, she stopped chanting the words and walked over near the curtain watching her friend set herself in front of a keyboard and taking the microphone in her hands.
"Hi, I'm Julie, tonight I'd like to dedicate this song to my mom. And thank her for not giving up on me." A little pause before she continued with her kind words. "I'd also like to dedicate tonight's performance to three special friends who changed my life completely, who brought music back to me." Julie continued sharing a bit more and Destiny knew exactly who Julie was referring to, with that said it gave her the motivation, that little push to do this spell, rushing towards where her mother stood Destiny didn't hesitate and grabbed her hands.
"Let's do this then." Closing her eyes Desting took a deep breath, hearing Julie's voice followed with the keys of the music she began singing.
"Spirits bound by shadows deep, Evil's grip, now break and sweep. Moonlight guide and starlight gleam, Free these souls from darkened dream." Wendy started followed by her daughter's voice. "By whispered plea and sacred rite, Banish chains that hold so tight. Return from darkness, break the night, Ghosts of sorrow, reclaim the light. "
The two women chanted repeatedly. Destiny could've sworn she felt warmth around her, she could see white flashes around her eyelids, this could be working. Julie's voice echoed in the background, the second verse was about beginn, and with it followed the sound of the drums, opening her eyes just a bit Destiny saw Alex, he was there. It wasn't an illusion, he was exactly there.
Destiny focused on the memories, she focused on Reggie, how he appeared when she called for him, how he made her laugh with his jokes and how clueless he could be, she felt her cheeks hurting a bit and Destiny knew she was smiling, the warmth in her body mixed perfectly with the sound of the bass sounding, not caring anymore the teenager opened her eyes, the words continued to escape her lips but she could see him there, Reggie was playing on stage with Julie and Alex, the only one missing was Luke.
"Come on honey, one more guy, focus." Wendy's voice pulled her daughter's attention back to the spell, Destiny chanted focusing on Julie, she knew that her friend was closer to the singer than herself, Destiny recalled the interactions Julie had spoken about with Luke, she remembered the small thing she had seen, their performances, their eye contact, their smiles. She could hear the guitar coming in and out, her eyes could see Luke glitching , stopping her chanting Destiny begged whoever was listening to her that let Luke free, let him come back.
And with that Luke appeared completely on stage to continue and sign the chorus with the rest of the band, letting of her mothers hands Destiny rushed near the stage and still hiding to see their performance, she was crying, not being able to believe they were there, they were okay, that the spell her mother had found and she had said had worked, they were there, singing, playing their instruments. Destiny had done it.
The teenager danced and clapped enjoying the music, the beat of every note, watching the band joining the front stage as the song ended, seeing them hold hands except with Julie as they weren't able to touch her and when they leaned back to see the crowd, the guys vanish, for a second the venue went silent, following with the loud eruption of claps and shouting, applauding the performance Julie and the Phantoms had given.
"I think, they have crossed over sweetheart." Wendy walked towards Destiny, wrapping an around around the teenager's body.
"I know, I didn't get to say goodbye." Destiny could feel the knot in her throat, the soft whimpers turned into soft cries, hugging her mother tightly, the older woman hushed her supportively and caressed her hair.
"They know you wanted to, go on, join your friend, she did amazing, and I am so proud of you Destiny, I knew there was a reason why I named you like this, you were a key to them." Wendy talked her words grabbing her daughter's face with her hands.
When Julie turned around she rushed to where Destiny stood hugging her tightly, crying in her shoulders, Destiny held her, understanding how she must've felt, Flynn joined them not saying a word as she imagined what had happened.
The boys had crossed over, they were free, but Destiny didn't feel completely happy, she knew that she was going to miss them, miss Alex, miss Luke, miss Reggie.
author's note
and we are one chapter away from the big ending, oh my god, i cannot express how i feel, the way i had to rewatch the last episode so many times and it became a try not to cry challenge which i failed miserably.
