Chapter 1. The Prince

A prince with brown puffy hair sat down on a wooden chair. He looked at the mirror in front of him, he fixed his golden shiny crown and his blue bow tie.

" Father, why must I wear this very scruffy and... choking clothing? "

The prince scratched his neck uncomfortably.

"Don't worry son, it's only a matter of time. You'll just have to get used to it. "

The king responded, helping his son fix his crown.

"But I wanna run around! Go buy some jam straws! Maybe I'll get raspberry or blueberry flavors, even dance to the music, or visit the library!"

The prince sighed as he fantasized what he would do outside the castle.

"Now,now Muffin. You mustn't get ahead of yourself, you could get trampled or even swarmed by the commoners."

The king took a hairbrush and started brushing Muffin's poofy hair.

"King Oompa?"

A knight with brown hair and blue armor entered the room.

"Ah, what is it Socks?"

King Oompa asked with a smile as he crossed his arms behind him.

The knight  bowed in respect and opened his mouth to speak.

"The other knights are doing well, I think they are ready to become senior knights."
Socks announced calmly.

"Oh that's excellent! I shall watch them and test  them as senior knights then."

The king chuckled happily.

"Oh and would you mind escorting my son to the royal garden?"

King Oompa asked politely. Socks looked at Muffin with a stern look then sighed.

"Of course your highness"
Socks nodded, bowing once more.

"Okay please escort my son safely!"
King Oompa then trotted away.

"Great, kids."
Socks muttered quietly.
The prince looked at the knight.

"Uhm you have really nice armor!"
The prince tried to compliment.

"Hphm."
The knight grunted in response.

"Okay then..."

Muffin scratched his head. As he trotted to the door. Socks followed the prince with a slight annoyance.

Muffin roamed around the clean quartz hall, the blue soft carpet stretched across the other rooms.

Socks marched through the hallways elegantly, while Muffin spun around.

Muffin stumbled onto the ground almost knocking over a white vase covered in blue flowers. Muffin quickly grabbed it and tipped it back gently. Socks was slightly alarmed but relaxed.

"Are you okay Prince Muffin?"
Socks asked.

"Yes, of course I am"
Muffin turned around, seeing a purple tapestry.

"What is this?"
Muffin thought, tilting his head slightly.

"This is the tapestry of the generation before you."
Socks answered the prince.

"Oh... hey that's my uncle Connor."
Muffin pointed at a section of the tapestry, there was an oval around the man's face.

"Why is the picture blue compared to me and Oompa?"
Muffin tried to reach out for the tapestry.

"Don't touch, young prince."
Socks stopped Muffin quickly.

"Oh, uh sorry."
Muffin rubbed his hands.

"King Connor it shows is more blue because he is now dead. The ones who remain the same color are alive, for instance you."

Socks pointed at a kid with poofy hair just like Muffin.

"Oh, so it's like a gravestone..?"
Muffin shuddered a bit.

"Indeed, come now, we must get to the garden."
Socks starts to walk ahead of Muffin while Muffin follows him.

"Uhm Socks right?"
Muffin asked as he trotted next to him.

Socks didn't respond but only nodded.

"How come you've got blue armor instead of the orange ones?"
Muffin asked with curiosity.

"Well I'm in the second highest ranks of a knight, orange is the commander, blue is well... what I'm doing right now."
Socks sighed.

"Do you want to be a commander?"
Muffin walked backwards.

"No, I do simply wish to have nice armor like that, but I must follow the rules."
Socks had a blank face but Muffin could see the glimmer in his eyes.

"Why not just dye your armor?"
Muffin suggested.
Socks's eyes widened for a split second.

"No, that is breaking the rule, if I do that I might be marked with imposter."
Socks grumbled.

"Then what if-"

"Kid, let's just talk about something else."
Socks grumbled in annoyance.

"Oh...uh okay then.."
Muffin's energy drained,
Socks glanced at the prince and sighed.

"Come on, we're almost there."
Socks turned around and looked at Muffin.

Muffin nodded and caught up with Socks.

"Do you...have any friends?"
Socks asked hesitantly.

"No, not that I can think of...Father always say 'it's only a matter of time son' "
Muffin imitated Oompa's voice.
Socks glanced at the prince.

"I'm sure your father is just doing what's best for you."
Socks looked at the hallway as if he was staring off to space.

"Anyways, here we are."
Socks opened a glass door. Muffin walked inside and sat down on the quartz bench.

The garden was covered by a glass dome, vines and lush moss covered the benches and ceiling. Beautiful vibrant floral surrounds the area, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, and many other colors bloomed.

"Hey psst!"
A voice called out.

"Huh?"
Muffin looked around.

"Hey! Hey you!"
The voice whispered to Muffin.
Muffin stood up and spun around.

"Behind you!"
The voice instructed Muffin.

Muffin turned around.

"Hey, can you see me?"
The voice asked.
Muffin rubbed his eyes and looked carefully to see a vent covered with moss and flowers.

"Yeah yeah that's it!"
The voice laughed.

"Uhm hello?"
Muffin whispered.

"Come help me open this vent!"
The voice asked Muffin.

"Okay..?"
Muffin walked over to the vent cautiously.

"Hello fellow prisoner!"
There was a boy with black hair wearing a cloak waved at Muffin.

"Huh? I'm- I'm not a prisoner..!"
Muffin whispered loudly.

"Then why are you in this garbage place? Lots of others hate that they can't leave the castle."
The boy yawned.

"I mean you aren't wrong"
Muffin giggled.

"Woah! Wait, are you a royal?"
The boy gasped.

"Oh yep the one and only..."
Muffin smiled, scratching his head.

"I'm Nadwe! And if you're wondering if I was from the dungeon, I swear I'm not."
Nadwe smiled introducing himself.

"And I'm Muffin, prince Muffin."
Muffin smiled back.

"So Uhm will you help me?"
Nadwe asked tugging on the vent.

"Well, what's in it for me?"
Muffin asked, Muffin thought that Nadwe might be able to do something for him.

"Hmm, why would you need anything?"
Nadwe asked.

"Well, you see if I open this vent I might get in a lot of trouble probably helping a Hmm commoner?"
Muffin wasn't actually sure that Nadwe was a commoner or not.

"Okay good point, how about I give you a stroll in town? I mean you're probably always stuck in this fancy place.
Nadwe asked.

"Oh I would-! I mean deal!"
Muffin tried to stay calm but he was very excited.

"Alright then"
Nadwe crawled back a bit letting Muffin pull the vent out.

"Oof got it!"
Muffin pulled the vent out as he fell on his back.

Nadwe crawled out of the vent.

"Woah you are really dusty"
Muffin swats the dust away from him.

Nadwe shook the dust off him, he was wearing a worn out red cloak covering his ears, his black hair poofed out very messily.

"Woah this garden is beautiful"
Nadwe said in awe, stretching.

"How long were you even in the vents?"
Muffin asked, hearing Nadwe's knuckles crack.

"Hmm, about 13 hours."
Nadwe yawned.

"13 hours?! Shouldn't you get some rest first??"
Muffin exclaimed.

"Nah a little stroll would be nice."
Nadwe crawled back into the vents.

"Hey! Where are you going!?"
Muffin crawled towards the vent.

"I keep my promises safe with me your highness"
Nadwe smiled offering a hand for the prince.

Muffin paused and looked at Nadwe.

"You coming?"
Nadwe asked, waiting for Muffin's response.

Muffin smiled brightly as his eyes glimmered with excitement. Muffin took Nadwe's hand as Nadwe pulled Muffin into the vents.

Muffin and Nadwe crawled through the vents and soon enough made it outside of town.

"Who knew the vents would lead out here."
Muffin peered outside.

"Careful the knights might see you."
Nadwe warned Muffin.

"Right. Don't I need a disguise then?"
Muffin backed away a bit.

"Don't worry just bust this vent"
Nadwe assured the prince.

Muffin moved in front of Nadwe and kicked the vent once, nothing. He kicked it once again, the vent went flying out onto the ground.

"What was that?!"
One of the knights wearing yellow armor exclaimed.

"Go check it out!"
Another knight shouted.

"Quit being babies I'll go investigate"
Another grumbled as they walked towards the vent.

"Quick, let's go!"
Muffin ran out of the vents quietly while Nadwe followed after.

Nadwe and Muffin jumped down from the white stairs as they both stumbled onto the soft grass.
Nadwe and Muffin both laughed as they ran to a church.

"Here I'm sure they wouldn't mind you borrowing their clothes, I mean you are the prince."
Nadwe nabbed a white shirt, black pants, and a blue sheet.

"Uhm are you sure?"
Muffin ran behind a tree and changed.

"Of course you are the prince after all."
Nadwe smiled thinking he was a genius.

"But I won't be prince Muffin I'll probably be Moxie the commoner"
Muffin came up with a fake name.

"Oh yeah alright then Moxie"
Nadwe played along.

Muffin wrapped the blue sheets around his neck turning it into a cloak.
Muffin took off his crown and gazed at it, Muffin threw the crown onto the ground.

"C'mon let's go!"
Nadwe dragged Muffin along deeper into the town.
